- The Motown saxophonist USA #4 (R&B #1) & UK #13 hit was written by its producers Johnny Bristol & Harvey Fuqua with Vernon Bullock.
- Written by producer Brian Wilson with father Murry Wilson, this melodic surf throwback tune features Carl Wilson singing verses and Al Jardine on the chorus. It only reached USA #63 but was rather more successful abroad reaching UK #6.

It reached USA #42 in its own right.

This has made me look up "Saved By The Bell", which was always sat there in the chart books incongruously separate to the Bee Gees' oeuvre but which I had never been bothered to think about. Wow. It's quite the record.
I really need a few months to listen to everything, I've been so work-bombed though...

The 11th Retro Rewind number one features a 1969 performance from The David Frost Show. Quite appropriate really considering this was Jagger's attempt at coming up with a Hey Jude type epic (albeit this TV performance misses out the choir at the start of the record). Elsewhere, ten more new entries from:- The poem written by Shel Silverstein that was made popular by the Arkansas born country singer/songwriting legend. Taken from his Live At San Quentin album, and featuring Carl Perkins on guitar. This slightly comedic recording reached USA #2 & UK #4.

- The much covered Nashville Skyline album track, reached USA #7 & UK #5, thanks due to Dylan singing in an unusual warm, relatively low sounding voice, rather than the more abrasive nasal singing style with which he had become famous.
- Written by the English songwriter Guy Fletcher (and father of children TV entertainer Justin), whom is the current chairman of PRS for Music. This track reached USA #35.

- Ray Davies' written and produced pop recording was the first single release from the forthcoming Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) album. Unfortunately it failed to trouble the charts in the UK.
- The New Orleans born Laten John Adams known as "The Tan Canary" for the multi-octave range of his singing voice, his swooping vocal mannerisms and falsetto reached USA #28 (R&B #8) with this country/soul ballad written by Margaret Lewis and Mira Smith.

Stones at 1 and 2? Justin who? Well Brian Jones officially "drowned" on July 3rd, so perhaps I'm showing some Retro Rewind sympathy, or maybe they are just two great songs. Alarmingly I actually don't mind "What Does It Mean" & "Sorry". Thankfully, "Love Yourself" has brought about my normality to what I think of Justin Bieber records, perhaps that has something to do with Ed Sheeran co-writing it.

This week's retro rewind chart sees six new entries arrive from:- The New York folk rock band with their hippie USA #5 anthem for peace and brotherhood, originally written in the early 1960s by American singer-songwriter Chet Powers (aka Dino Valenti). It failed to trouble the UK charts, but a 1970 cover version would take it into the top ten ....
- Sandy Denny's signature self penned song was taken from the English folk group's Unhalfbricking album. This reflective song has been covered by too many acts to mention.
- The USA #1 & UK #13 psychedelic soul track was written by producer Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for the Motown vocal quintet.
- The folk rock group from Argentina enjoyed a huge international hit amongst Spanish speaking nations with this release. Unfortunately, like so many acts, its success contributed to the band splitting 1 year later. However, its singer/songwriter Luis Alberto Spinetta became a very popular rock star either solo or with a number of groups throughout the 1970s and beyond until his death in 2012 due to lung cancer aged 62.
- Written by Galt MacDermot, James Rado, and Gerome Ragni from the musical Hair, this rock cover version saw the Los Angeles rock band reach USA #4
- The Manchester jazz trio of drummer Trevor Morais, bassist Tab Martin, & singer/keyboardist Roy Phillips score a UK #17 hit with their biggest of their three charting singles.
