Great men's 400 metres today - stunning times!

I've no time for Justin Gatlin and in no way seek to minimise his actions but it is a bit unfair that there were three or four other athletes in the 100m final who had served bans for doping and there was very little mention of it.

No more GB medals but some great performances and PBs.
4 British PBs on Thursday: Dina Asher-Smith, Zharnel Hughes, Shelayna Oskan-Clarke and two British records for Sophie Hitchon in the hammer, who missed out on a medal by 16cm.
Dina Asher-Smith looks a real medal contender in the 200m on Friday. Tiffany Porter will hopefully be in the mix in the hurdles. Tough to say which of the 3 GB girls has the best chance in the long jump - on paper it's Shara Proctor, but as I said previously, she underperforms at championships, as shown by her performance in qualifying.
Chris O'Hare and Charlie Grice go in the 1500m semi-finals and Goldie Sayers is in javelin qualifying.

Fingers crossed Dina gets a 200m medal today - would love to see Cathy Cook's British record finally fall as well. Just wonder if she will tighten up for the final - she has handled the big occasion amazingly for a 19 year old so far, but could be forgiven if she feels it now

Things going a bit pear-shaped for the Brits.
Christine Ohurougu made a hash of her final - she was definitely physced out by Allyson Felix. Had she run her normal race she would have been a lot quicker - maybe even havegrabbed a bronze medal.
Superb Silver for Shara Proctor in the Long Jump. Many commentators had written her off as a poor finals performer but she had twoo jumps over 7m. It was guting that she was heading for the Gold until the peultimate jump.
I was never a big fan of Darren Campbell but he has turned into a very good radio commentator.
Although Dina Asher-Smith did brilliantly in finishing 5th and setting a new UK record of 22.07 in the 200m he pointed out that she came up too quickly out of the blocks which cost her time and she might just have claimed Bronze. Let's hope she can avoid injuries.
Campbell and Alison Curbishly almost came to blows on Five Live over Tiffany Porter's run in the 11m hurdles final. Alison tried to defend her but he bluntly said she threw the Gold medal away right at the end. It was very heated and then they brought in Colin Jackson who normally tries to paint the athletes in a positive picture but he came right out and agreed with Campbell.
The relays should be interesting - maybe the women's 4x100m could nab a bronze. Unfortunately the women's 4x400m will probably finish in their favourite place - 4th!

Things going a bit pear-shaped for the Brits. How? I don't remember a championships with so many PBs and British records being set. Yes, a couple have fallen short of what they could've achieved but generally, if you're running or throwing the best times and distances of your career and it's not enough for a medal, there's nothing else you can do.

Only in the sense that luck seemed to desert them at the wrong moments yesterday.
Porter could have got Gold, Proctor lost to a last minute jump and Asher-Smith could have won Bronze if she had come out of the blocks right (don't ask me the mechanics but DarrenCampbell explained it.)

The British woman doing particularly well - loving all the PBs and records. Most impressed by the hammer throwing - the trainer is doing a great job and I expect to see medals in that event from the GB athletes in future competitions

Often repeated story for the men's sprint relay team. Not sure why they chop and change between rounds - I think it would be better to keep the same quartet for both races. I know Gemili is injured but even without him, I'm not sure that was our strongest team.
New British record for the women's team but not quick enough for a medal in a very strong field.
The 4x400m heats this morning were very competitive, especially the men's, where 10 teams went under 3 minutes. Should be a very close and possibly very physical, race. Luck could play a big part with the jostling and positioning that goes on during the changeovers.

Even before I saw the final medal table I thought this was the best World Champs I've seen. Just incredible from GB (and a bit of sadness in there too for me), some disappointments along the way but Jess, DAS and the relay girls all more than made up for that. I could take credit for what I said about DAS, but anything achieved here was a bonus, and I was only talking about the 100 anyway, I didn't really know how good she was in the 200m! I've tried to rein in my optimism but can't any more, she will win gold in the future, atm the 2020 Olympics seems a good fit for her to do something. It's also worth mentioning that with her uni course she's not even focusing completely on athletics for most of the year at this stage which only makes the future even more exciting.
And I haven't even mentioned about Bolt!
