The top 10 of 1962 are:
10 Twistin' The Night Away - Sam Cooke 9 Nut Rocker - B Bumble & The Stingers 8 A Picture Of You - Joe Brown 7 Green Onions - Booker T & The MGs 6 Breaking Up Is Hard To Do - Neil Sedaka 5 Monster Mash - Bobby Boris Pickett & The Crypt-Kickers 4 The Locomotion - Little Eva 3 She Can't Find Her Keys - Paul Petersen **2 Return To Sender - Elvis Presley 1 Crying In The Rain - Everly Brothers
The top 10 of the year is made up mostly of well known songs with one exception - my little guilty pleasure at #3, a song that peaked only at #19 in the US and nowhere in the UK.
It took the UK 11 years to recognise the one at #5 and 17 years for the one at #7 but they made it here eventually.
Elvis Presley's "Return To Sender" was his biggest NM hit of 1962. Adding its one week in 1963 doesn't take it past the #1 here although it does keep it above Acker Bilk's combined total.
B Bumble & The Stingers get the biggest hit in this chart that didn't reach #1, although in reality my favourite non-#1 was probably "Things" by Bobby Darin, which peaked at #2, the same position as in the UK and is a classic swing song that he wrote himself. (I didn't know before that he'd written that song).
Elvis Presley also has the best 2nd placed single this year. (As in 1960, he has the 2nd placed single of the year and the best-placed 2nd hit. In 1961 his highest placed single was 8th of the year and Roy Orbison had the best 2nd placed single).
