29 Alex Winston - The Day I Died / Down Low / Dead End (The Day I Died EP)
More great alt-pop from under-rated female. Video is a homage to slasher films and contains mild violence.
ALBUMS
29 Plumb - Exhale SPOTIFY
Her most explicitly Christian lyrics and relatively unadventurous musically but still full of (Holy) spirit and passion.

28 Meanwhile - Luvletta
Meanwhile is synth man Tom Andrews and this sounds like Prince at his quirkiest. It's barmy! The fan video doesn't really go with it but it's all that YouTube offers.
ALBUMS
28 Little Mix - Get Weird SPOTIFY
Best album by far. Lots of 80s on it.

HITS
27 Spector - All The Sad Young Men
Spector were once hailed as a Next Big Thing by the music press and charted well with the first album. They came back and were roundly ignored by all but XFM - even with this blatantly radio friendly atmospheric synth anthem. Brandon Flowers can get all that attention for mediocre music yet this is ignored??
ALBUMS
27 Allie X - CollXtion I (MA) SPOTIFY
Quirky Canadian alt pop female. Was a 7 track with visual accompaniment, later an 8-track.

25 Chairlift - Romeo
More alt-pop genius. Where the hell is radio for this?? Caroline did Beyonce's No Angel if that helps floating clickers.
ALBUMS
25 Tom Robinson - Only The Now SPOTIFY
Punk era rebel's first album in about two decades and unexpectedly good.

24 Bill Fay - War Machine
Very moving and topical ballad about the ongoing struggle of humanity. With all the terror and strife that has happened since it came out, it couldn't be more poignant.
ALBUMS
24 Nero - Between II Worlds SPOTIFY
Shame it underperformed as it's not far off the quality of the previous.

23 Lost Years - Nuclear
If you're not among the 23 million plus views of the amazing Kung Fury short film, where have you been?? This is the standout synth theme used in it. Both the Kung Fury and Nuclear fan videos feature strong language and violence.
ALBUMS
23 Phases - For Life SPOTIFY
Phases is a pop supergroup featuring Z Berg once of The Like, Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet and Jason once of Rilo Kiley among the four members. It used to feature a Maroon 5 guy but he left to concentrate on them. This is great synth / indie pop. Again, radio has ignored them.

22 Marina Kaye - Homeless
Better than Adele. Fantastic aching power ballad that was huge in her native France. I happened to be charting it around the time of the recent attacks in Paris which made it even more special.
ALBUMS
22 LoneLady - Hinterland SPOTIFY
Much better second album by post-punk pop female. Great bass.

21 Janet Devlin - December Daze
I've followed this folky pop singer since The X Factor but even i was surprised at how accomplished this festive ditty was. Topped my chart all through December.
ALBUMS
21 Olafur Arnalds - Broadchurch (Series 1-2 OTVST) SPOTIFY
Some of the best TV drama music ever made. This followed a mini album for series 1 by combining the best of both on the official full length.

To clarify my Brandon Flowers comment - i meant his album and most of his recent output was mediocre, not Can't Deny My Love which was great. Some acts get written off far too quickly while others get attention for things they wouldn't if they weren't so well known. HITS
20 Silversun Pickups - Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance)
Album was good but not as good as this groovy number in which Nikki gives it some female sass and sensuality.
ALBUMS
20 Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL - Mad Max: Fury Road (OST) SPOTIFY

19 Thea Gilmore with Billy Bragg - My Voice (2015)
Stirring song of people power written after 2010 election reworked in time for the 2015 election. It all looked so promising with the swell for The Green Party but then... they got in again. The Tories don't want you to listen to songs like this as they want to control you and your vote. With the voting system as it is, your vote makes less of an impact as it should. But the anti-austerity protests and public support for Jeremy Corbyn show there is still hope.
ALBUMS
19 Purity Ring - Another Eternity SPOTIFY
Oh, it DID make the 50! Ignore what i said before!

17 Lauren Aquilina - Low / Ocean
Better than Adele II. Both from the Ocean EP. Videos for both but the moody slowbuild of Low was the standout. Why radio ignored it is beyond me. Also check out the great remix by Vaults. I would play both together on a loop.
ALBUMS
17 John Foxx - London Overgrown SPOTIFY
Instrumentals similar to Brian Eno. Nice surprise among Foxx's prolific output.

15 Tamaryn - Hands All Over Me
Tamaryn is both a duo and the name of the singer. This has an exquisite synth line that drives the alt-pop duo's best song.
ALBUMS
15 Best Coast - California Nights SPOTIFY
I was never that keen on this alt duo before but this album is both poppier and heavier with a debt to nineties grunge/alternative rock. Why the critics turned on them and radio followed suit i don't know.  It only got to #6 on my chart but was such a slowburning fave that here it is at 15!

14 Meg Myers - Sorry
She made the UKMix Sound Of 2015 shortlist but radio are still ignoring her. Another great artist who isn't in fashion. With this song she went a bit electronic while still being fierce and rocking. And it was here before JB's song of the same name.
ALBUMS
14 Kid Astray - Home Before The Dark SPOTIFY
Norwegian pop band produced by Joe Cross (ex Performance / Kiss In Cities and producer of Hurts, Chloe Howl, Courteeners). Radio radio radio blah blah blah...

Country album of the year. Still waiting for UKMix's known country fans to comment on her. And UK radio (Radio 2?) to take notice.

Best thing they've done in years. A synth track unlike most of the dull indie of the album.

Cocteau Twins and MBV also in with the synth sounds.
