The highest entry this week is by Dave Berry whom we have come across before, trying to be Chuck, but now being himself and with a song written by Geoff Stephens, who also co-wrote a #1 from earlier this year, "Tell Me When" by the Applejacks. (It's still 2 years off until we meet Geoff Stephens as a performer too).
A lesser known song by the Rolling Stones, who we will soon come across as songwriters. (Sooner than you may think).

The UK chart-topper by the Honeycombs manages to get to the top just in time. It is only the 3rd UK #1 so far in 1964 to also top this chart (Roy Orbison and The Animals so far) and I was expecting a lot more of the UK #1s from this part of the year to also top my chart, but there are so many good songs and so songs like "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" for example didn't make it.
That the Beatles didn't get to #1 with "Can't Buy Me Love" and then "A Hard Day's Night" only reaching #4, shows that they don't automatically get #1s so when "And I Love Her" crashes in at #3, assuming it will reach #1, it shows they really deserve them when they come. As they also had a week at #1 with "I Saw Her Standing There" earlier in the year, if this does reach #1 their tally would be the same as in the UK chart up to this point, i.e. it would be their 5th. The song was released as a single in the US but only peaked at #12 there. A track from "A Hard Day's Night" at a time when the Beatles released singles from albums. It's a ballad written mostly by Paul McCartney (if not totally by him) and shows their versatility, and possibly a bit more of their future direction.
That is not the only great song to enter though. The Zombies' classic "She's Not There" is a song I'd have expected to do well.
And that one comes in ahead of the most expected #1 by the Kinks "You Really Got Me" that kicked off their wonderful career. There is a chance that none of their UK #1s will also top my chart but that they'll get their #1s in mine from singles that didn't top the UK chart. Originally the two Davies brothers were "equal" and they co-wrote this song, with Dave creating the famous "riff" and then Ray building a song around it. So many times I've heard a great riff and no proper song around it and so a partnership like this seems to work well. However going forward, Ray did pretty much all the songwriting.
And now on to a hugely significant song as we see another songwriting team we haven't seen before, although we've heard them as performers. There's a famous story of how Jagger and Richards were locked in a room by Andrew Oldham to write a song, but there's a misconception that "The Last Time" was the result, possibly because that's the first of their own hits they wrote themselves. They actually wrote "As Tears Go By", although they called it "As Time Goes By" and Andrew Oldham changed the title and decided it would be better suited to a different singer as it wasn't in the Rolling Stones style, although they did later record their own version.
A final instrumental hit for Al Hirt who had a #1 earlier in the year, Elvis doing a song that was previously recorded by the Drifters and a UK #1 for Johnnie Ray, and another hit for the Fourmost. Dave Clark Five just miss out again.

22 August 1964:
1 ( 3 ) And I Love Her - Beatles < 5th #1 > 2 ( 1 ) Have I The Right - Honeycombs (#1[1]) 3 ( 6 ) She's Not There - Zombies 4 ( 8 ) You Really Got Me - Kinks 5 ( 10 ) As Tears Go By - Marianne Faithfull 6 ( 2 ) Under The Boardwalk - Drifters (#1[3]) 7 ( 12 ) Sugar Lips - Al Hirt 8 ( 7 ) The Crying Game - Dave Berry (#7) 9 ( 4 ) Do Wah Diddy Diddy - Manfred Mann (#2[1]) 10 ( 5 ) You'll Never Get To Heaven - Dionne Warwick (#4)
11 ( 16 ) Such A Night - Elvis Presley 12 ( -- ) Maybe I Know - Lesley Gore 13 ( -- ) I'm Into Something Good - Herman's Hermits 14 ( 13 ) It's For You - Cilla Black (#13) 15 ( 21 ) How Can I Tell Her - Fourmost 16 ( 9 ) Where Did Our Love Go - Supremes (#5) 17 ( 11 ) Just For You - Freddie & The Dreamers (#7) 18 ( 17 ) Tell Me - Rolling Stones (#17) 19 ( 14 ) From A Window - Billy J Kramer & The Dakotas (#9) 20 ( -- ) Bread And Butter - Newbeats
21 ( -- ) I'll Cry Instead - Beatles 22 ( -- ) You Never Can Tell - Chuck Berry 23 ( 23 ) People Say - Dixie Cups 24 ( 18 ) Hey Harmonica Man - Stevie Wonder (#13) 25 ( 15 ) A Hard Day's Night - Beatles (#4) 26 ( -- ) Twelve Steps To Love - Brian Poole & The Tremeloes 27 ( 19 ) I Found Out The Hard Way - Four Pennies (#12) 28 ( 24 ) C'Mon And Swim - Bobby Freeman (#21) 29 ( -- ) I Should Have Known Better - Naturals 30 ( 26 ) Hurt By Love - Inez & Charles Foxx (#20)
-- ( 20 ) House Of The Rising Sun - Animals (#1[3]) -- ( 22 ) I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself - Dusty Springfield (#4) -- ( 25 ) Call Up The Groups - Barron Knights (#11) -- ( 27 ) Happiness - Ken Dodd (#19) -- ( 28 ) I Like It Like That - Miracles (#24) -- ( 29 ) Tobacco Road - Nashville Teens (#6) -- ( 30 ) Rag Doll - Four Seasons (#2[2])
-- ( -- ) G.T.O. - Ronny And The Daytonas
There we go, the Beatles get another #1. On the same week, another track from A Hard Day's Night, the song "I'll Cry Instead" enters at a relatively lowly #21, and a cover of I Should Have Known Better at #29 (but the Beatles' own version would probably have entered somewhat higher).
Lesley Gore's uptempo "Maybe I Know" enters above the UK #1 from Herman's Hermits, who have a long career ahead and may well get to #1 with a different song. The Newbeats interesting "Bread And Butter" comes in next with falsetto vocals from Larry Henley, who would later go on to co-write the song "Wind Beneath My Wings".
Ronny And The Daytonas were the first to do a song about a G.T.O, but neither this nor the other song of that title has made it into my chart.

The only change in the top 5 is that the Honeycombs fall 3 to let the others all move up one, but what a top 5 that is...
Not much in the way of new entries this week, with Gene Pitney leading the pack. Incidentally the top 6 ranked on my list of August were all from the entry week of 15th.
There's a biggie due in on 5th September. We'll see what it is and how high it enters.

It is great to see the upturn in quality of the chart music available in 1964 compared to 2 years earlier.
PS. (bar unforseen incidents and acidents) I reckon I'll have my 1970s retro chart thread ready to start from the beginning of May if not slightly earlier.

5 September 1964:
1 ( 1 ) And I Love Her - Beatles < 3rd week at #1 > 2 ( 2 ) She's Not There - Zombies 3 ( -- ) Oh Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison 4 ( 3 ) You Really Got Me - Kinks (#3) 5 ( 4 ) As Tears Go By - Marianne Faithfull (#4) 6 ( 7 ) Maybe I Know - Lesley Gore 7 ( 8 ) I'm Into Something Good - Herman's Hermits 8 ( 6 ) Sugar Lips - Al Hirt (#6) 9 ( -- ) Baby I Need Your Loving - Four Tops 10 ( 12 ) Bread And Butter - Newbeats
11 ( 9 ) Such A Night - Elvis Presley (#9) 12 ( 5 ) Have I The Right - Honeycombs (#1[1]) 13 ( 14 ) I'll Cry Instead - Beatles 14 ( 19 ) It Hurts To Be In Love - Gene Pitney 15 ( 15 ) You Never Can Tell - Chuck Berry 16 ( -- ) It's Gonna Be Alright - Gerry & The Pacemakers 17 ( 13 ) How Can I Tell Her - Fourmost (#13) 18 ( 21 ) The Best Part Of Breaking Up - Ronettes 19 ( 10 ) The Crying Game - Dave Berry (#7) 20 ( 22 ) Maybelline - Johnny Rivers
21 ( 20 ) Twelve Steps To Love - Brian Poole & The Tremeloes (#20) 22 ( 11 ) Under The Boardwalk - Drifters (#1[3]) 23 ( -- ) Kelly - Wayne Gibson 24 ( 24 ) I Should Have Known Better - Naturals 25 ( -- ) Remember (Walkin' In The Sand) - Shangri-Las 26 ( 30 ) Selfish One - Jackie Ross 27 ( -- ) Together - P.J. Proby 28 ( 18 ) It's For You - Cilla Black (#13) 29 ( 16 ) Do Wah Diddy Diddy - Manfred Mann (#2[1]) 30 ( -- ) Haunted House - Gene Simmons
-- ( 17 ) You'll Never Get To Heaven - Dionne Warwick (#4) -- ( 23 ) Tell Me - Rolling Stones (#17) -- ( 25 ) People Say - Dixie Cups (#23) -- ( 26 ) Just For You - Freddie & The Dreamers (#7) -- ( 27 ) Where Did Our Love Go - Supremes (#5) -- ( 28 ) From A Window - Billy J Kramer & The Dakotas (#9) -- ( 29 ) Hey Harmonica Man - Stevie Wonder (#13)
-- ( -- ) We'll Sing In The Sunshine - Gale Garnett -- ( -- ) Seven Daffodils - Cherokees -- ( -- ) Rhythm And Greens - Shadows
Was it ever in doubt that Roy Orbison would get a huge entry with this song? Doing this has thrown up surprises for me but there are songs I always knew were virtually certain number ones. It's when the great songs clash...
The Four Tops enter the scene with a bang now. Gerry & The Pacemakers have a hit I didn't really remember. Wayne Gibson is covering a Del Shannon song, who himself is covering Jimmy Jones's "Handy Man" and being shut out as that was a hit only 3 years ago. On Wayne Gibson's hit, a certain Jimmy Page is playing the guitar.
Shangri-Las enter.. I wonder what will become of them?

You mention 1962: my top 10 of 8th September 1962 was:
1 ( 1 ) Make It Easy On Yourself - Jerry Butler < 2nd week at #1 > 2 ( 6 ) Telstar - Tornados 3 ( 7 ) Sherry - Four Seasons 4 ( -- ) Green Onions - Booker T & The MGs 5 ( 2 ) The Locomotion - Little Eva (#1[3]) 6 ( 5 ) Welcome Home Baby - Brook Brothers (#5) 7 ( 3 ) Things - Bobby Darin (#2[3]) 8 ( 4 ) She's Not You - Elvis Presley (#3) 9 ( -- ) It'll Be Me - Cliff Richard 10 ( 12 ) Ramblin' Rose - Nat King Cole
which isn't bad. Telstar couldn't even make it to #1. The one that is #1 there was a UK #1 later on and "Things" perhaps should have been a #1.

-- ( -- ) Walk Away - Matt Monro -- ( -- ) Out Of Sight - James Brown
The highest new entry by the Searchers was a cover of Jackie DeShannon, who also co-wrote this song. She had recorded Needles And Pins too but didn't write it. She seems to be most famous in the UK for having her songs covered, as she also did the originals of "Bette Davis Eyes" and "Breakaway" (latter covered by Tracey Ullman). She did have a couple of US top 10 hits later so there's a good chance she'll make this chart at some point.

Up to October and in 1964 the festivals would have been early, in September and would have now finished. Roy Orbison seems to be under little threat and if he can remain at #1 another week that will be 11 for him in the year with two #1s.
There are a couple of big ones next week. Could one of them enter at #1?

17 October 1964:
1 ( 4 ) (There's) Always Something There To Remind Me - Sandie Shaw < 1st #1 > 2 ( 7 ) Baby Love - Supremes 3 ( 1 ) Oh Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison (#1[5]) 4 ( 2 ) Dancing In The Street - Martha & The Vandellas (#2[4]) 5 ( 3 ) When I Grow Up (To Be A Man) - Beach Boys (#3) 6 ( 8 ) Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue) - Temptations 7 ( -- ) Sha La La - Manfred Mann 8 ( -- ) Walk Tall - Val Doonican 9 ( 5 ) When You Walk In The Room - Searchers (#3) 10 ( 6 ) I'm Crying - Animals (#5)
11 ( 11 ) One Way Love - Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers 12 ( 9 ) Come To Me - Julie Grant (#9) 13 ( -- ) The Times They Are A-Changin' - Peter Paul & Mary 14 ( 10 ) A Summer Song - Chad & Jeremy (#10) 15 ( -- ) Come A Little Bit Closer - Jay & The Americans 16 ( 21 ) Bye Bye Baby - Tony Jackson & The Vibrations 17 ( -- ) Three Little Words - Applejacks 18 ( 15 ) Matchbox - Beatles (#15) 19 ( 23 ) Do I Love You? - Ronettes 20 ( -- ) Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey
21 ( 19 ) Slow Down - Beatles (#19) 22 ( 26 ) Chug-A-Lug - Roger Miller 23 ( 14 ) Love's Made A Fool Of You - Buddy Holly (#11) 24 ( 12 ) We're Through - Hollies (#7) 25 ( 27 ) Reach Out For Me - Dionne Warwick 26 ( 22 ) Summer Is Over - Frank Ifield (#22) 27 ( 17 ) The Letter - Long And The Short (#15) 28 ( 20 ) Rhythm - Major Lance (#20) 29 ( 13 ) Save It For Me - Four Seasons (#5) 30 ( 24 ) Little Honda - Hondells (#24)
-- ( 16 ) Baby I Need Your Loving - Four Tops (#3) -- ( 18 ) It's Gonna Be Alright - Gerry & The Pacemakers (#8) -- ( 25 ) And I Love Her - Beatles (#1[3]) -- ( 28 ) You Really Got Me - Kinks (#3) -- ( 29 ) It Hurts To Be In Love - Gene Pitney (#13) -- ( 30 ) Kelly - Wayne Gibson (#17)
-- ( -- ) Ride The Wild Surf - Jan & Dean -- ( -- ) He's In Town - Rockin' Berries -- ( -- ) Questions I Can't Answer - Heinz -- ( -- ) The Door Is Still Open To My Heart - Dean Martin
Finally a new number one. And a week with lots of entries if not any particularly high charting ones, but this means that Jan & Dean and the Rockin' Berries are denied when both of those would have charted in the last two weeks. Perhaps the Rockin' Berries should have switched the order of their releases. (Actually they changed record label). This one is better than the other one.
Perhaps a bit of a surprise then to see Val Doonican as the 2nd highest entry but I've always liked this one of his and knew it would chart.

24 October 1964:
1 ( 1 ) (There's) Always Something There To Remind Me - Sandie Shaw < 1st #1 > 2 ( 2 ) Baby Love - Supremes 3 ( 7 ) Sha La La - Manfred Mann 4 ( -- ) Leader Of The Pack - Shangri-Las 5 ( 8 ) Walk Tall - Val Doonican 6 ( 6 ) Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue) - Temptations 7 ( 13 ) The Times They Are A-Changin' - Peter Paul & Mary 8 ( 3 ) Oh Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison (#1[5]) 9 ( 4 ) Dancing In The Street - Martha & The Vandellas (#2[4]) 10 ( 15 ) Come A Little Bit Closer - Jay & The Americans

-- ( -- ) Everybody Knows (I Still Love You) - Dave Clark Five -- ( -- ) I Don't Want To See You Again - Peter And Gordon -- ( -- ) Any Way You Want It - Dave Clark Five -- ( -- ) Baby Don't You Do It - Marvin Gaye
A second week at #1 for Sandie Shaw, but already at threat, by a song from the songwriting team of Barry and Greenwich although this was also co-written by George "Shadow" Morton who had written the first Shangi-Las hit.
The quantity of releases is high and Dave Clark Five miss out twice. Everybody Knows, like He's In Town last week, misses out with a score that I'd normally have expected it to chart (and if this keeps happening I may consider expanding the chart, but it fluctuates regularly from one week to the next. However songs would climb from the 31-40 range into the top 30). I would also have expected Peter And Gordon to chart.

31 October 1964:
1 ( 4 ) Leader Of The Pack - Shangri-Las < 1st #1 > 2 ( 1 ) (There's) Always Something There To Remind Me - Sandie Shaw (#1[2]) 3 ( 3 ) Sha La La - Manfred Mann 4 ( 2 ) Baby Love - Supremes (#2[2]) 5 ( 5 ) Walk Tall - Val Doonican 6 ( -- ) All Day And All Of The Night - Kinks 7 ( 7 ) The Times They Are A-Changin' - Peter Paul & Mary 8 ( 13 ) Google Eye - Nashville Teens 9 ( 14 ) Wild Side Of Life - Tommy Quickly & The Remo Four 10 ( 6 ) Girl (Why You Wanna Make Me Blue) - Temptations (#6)
11 ( 10 ) Come A Little Bit Closer - Jay & The Americans (#10) 12 ( 12 ) Three Little Words - Applejacks 13 ( 15 ) Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey 14 ( 22 ) Don't Bring Me Down - Pretty Things 15 ( 8 ) Oh Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison (#1[5]) 16 ( 9 ) Dancing In The Street - Martha & The Vandellas (#2[4]) 17 ( 11 ) When I Grow Up (To Be A Man) - Beach Boys (#3) 18 ( 17 ) Bye Bye Baby - Tony Jackson & The Vibrations (#16) 19 ( 28 ) Losing You - Dusty Springfield 20 ( 29 ) Is It Because - Honeycombs

-- ( -- ) Black Girl - Four Pennies -- ( -- ) Ain't That Loving You Baby - Elvis Presley -- ( -- ) Now We're Thru - Poets
The Shangri-Las "death" song gets to #1. Shortly there will be another similar themed song by a British artist (and a silly parody but that one isn't going to chart).
Incidentally, the "leader" of the pack is always going to be the most vulnerable. Always safer to let someone else lead and you be in the following pack.

7 November 1964:
1 ( 1 ) Leader Of The Pack - Shangri-Las < 2nd week at #1 > 2 ( 6 ) All Day And All Of The Night - Kinks 3 ( 3 ) Sha La La - Manfred Mann 4 ( 2 ) (There's) Always Something There To Remind Me - Sandie Shaw (#1[2]) 5 ( -- ) March Of The Mods - Joe Loss Orchestra 6 ( 8 ) Google Eye - Nashville Teens 7 ( 5 ) Walk Tall - Val Doonican (#5) 8 ( 9 ) Wild Side Of Life - Tommy Quickly & The Remo Four 9 ( 4 ) Baby Love - Supremes (#2[2]) 10 ( 7 ) The Times They Are A-Changin' - Peter Paul & Mary (#7)

-- ( -- ) I Understand - Freddie & The Dreamers -- ( -- ) Ask Me - Elvis Presley -- ( -- ) There's A Heartache Following Me - Jim Reeves
No change at #1 with the Kinks moving to #2 beating the peak position of "You Really Got Me". The highest entry was sampled in Jive Bunny's "Let's Party" medley. A very poor medley but the songs it sampled were good, just they didn't fit at all.
A notable thing about #6 is that the word "Google" existed long before the dot.com era.

Shangri-Las holds on to a second week in spite of pressure from the Kinks and Joe Loss.
The highest entry this week is of course a classic but the singer had previously managed only two #11 hits on this chart, "Romeo" and "Casanova" both having peaked at that position. The songwriter however, Tony Hatch, wrote one of the biggest hits of 1963, "Forget Him" by Bobby Rydell, so perhaps it's not such a surprise. In the UK, this song too a bit too long to climb to its peak by which time the Beatles had arrived. Who would have won such a battle here remains a mystery as "I Feel Fine" is still 3 weeks away so it may well end up replacing "Downtown" at #1 (should that get there).
Gene Pitney's single also peaked at #2 in the UK. He would have to wait just over 24 years to finally make it to the top.
The Yardbirds entering does of course bring Eric Clapton to the chart. (Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page are not in the band yet).

Oh well, Petula Clark gets to #1 as expected. I did mention in Phil20's topic that this was for me a clear case of "Troggs" syndrome or "2 is better than 1" syndrome - well I think it's both. We'll see if "This Is My Song" achieves anything at all.
Not many challengers this week. Next week has a lot of new ones.

In my chart "Downtown" was her first from 11 number ones and Petula had more # 1s, than anybody else in 60s.
They are : 1. Downtown (3 weeks at # 1) 2. You'd Better Come Home (3 weeks at # 1) 3. You're The One (5 weeks at # 1) 4. My Love (5 weeks at # 1) * 5. A Sign Of The Times (5 weeks at # 1) 6. I Couldn't Live Without Your Love (7 weeks at # 1) 7. This Is My Song (4 weeks at # 1) 8. Don't Sleep In The Subway (6 weeks at # 1) 9. The Other Man`s Grass (Is Always Greener) (5 weeks at # 1) 10. Kiss Me Goodbye (4 weeks at # 1) 11. I Couldn't Live Without Your Love (7 weeks at # 1)
* This song was replaced on the top by her another # 1 single, only ABBA will repeat this achievement.

28 November 1964:
1 ( 1 ) Downtown - Petula Clark < 2nd week at #1 > 2 ( 3 ) March Of The Mods - Joe Loss Orchestra 3 ( 5 ) I'm Gonna Be Strong - Gene Pitney 4 ( 2 ) Leader Of The Pack - Shangri-Las (#1[3]) 5 ( 6 ) Time Is On My Side - Rolling Stones 6 ( -- ) Terry - Twinkle 7 ( 4 ) All Day And All Of The Night - Kinks (#2[2]) 8 ( 9 ) Ringo - Lorne Greene 9 ( -- ) Saturday Night At The Movies - Drifters 10 ( 7 ) Google Eye - Nashville Teens (#6)
11 ( -- ) Walking In The Rain - Ronettes 12 ( 14 ) Everything's Alright - Newbeats 13 ( 15 ) Good Morning Little Schoolgirl - Yardbirds 14 ( 12 ) I Can't Stand It - Spencer Davis Group (#12) 15 ( -- ) Come See About Me - Supremes 16 ( -- ) Baby I Need Your Loving - Fourmost 17 ( 11 ) Don't Bring Me Down - Pretty Things (#11) 18 ( 8 ) Sha La La - Manfred Mann (#3) 19 ( 22 ) Show Me Girl - Herman's Hermits 20 ( 19 ) Mr Lonely - Bobby Vinton (#19)
21 ( 10 ) (There's) Always Something There To Remind Me - Sandie Shaw (#1[2]) 22 ( 23 ) Dance Dance Dance - Beach Boys 23 ( -- ) Goin' Out Of My Head - Little Anthony & The Imperials 24 ( 13 ) Wild Side Of Life - Tommy Quickly & The Remo Four (#8) 25 ( 26 ) Big Man In Town - Four Seasons 26 ( -- ) So Much In Love - Mighty Avengers 27 ( 16 ) Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey (#12) 28 ( 21 ) Last Night (I Made A Little Girl Cry) - Merseybeats (#21) 29 ( 28 ) Whatcha Gonna Do About It - Doris Troy (#28) 30 ( 18 ) Losing You - Dusty Springfield (#16)
-- ( 17 ) Walk Tall - Val Doonican (#5) -- ( 20 ) The Times They Are A-Changin' - Peter Paul & Mary (#7) -- ( 24 ) Tokyo Melody - Helmut Zacharias (#19) -- ( 25 ) Is It Because - Honeycombs (#17) -- ( 27 ) Three Little Words - Applejacks (#12) -- ( 29 ) Baby Love - Supremes (#2[2]) -- ( 30 ) Come To The Dance - Barron Knights (#21)
-- ( -- ) Sidewalk Surfin' - Jan & Dean -- ( -- ) The Jerk - Larks -- ( -- ) Message To Martha - Adam Faith -- ( -- ) One Heart Between Two - Dave Berry -- ( -- ) So Deep Is The Night - Ken Dodd
A bit week for releases means Jan & Dean miss out again when they'd have charted in one of the previous weeks.
In any case, as "Leader Of The Pack" falls from #2 to #4 this week we have another song by a girl singing about a boy dying in a motorbike crash. Twinkle was only 16 and wrote this song herself. Is that a record for a self-written hit? (The youngest ever singer to reach my chart is Rachel Arianna and she told me she had co-written her hit when I messaged her about it).
That enters above 4 artists who have all had either a #1 or #2 so far this year.

5 December 1964:
1 ( 1 ) Downtown - Petula Clark < 3rd week at #1 > 2 ( 2 ) March Of The Mods - Joe Loss Orchestra 3 ( 6 ) Terry - Twinkle 4 ( 3 ) I'm Gonna Be Strong - Gene Pitney (#3) 5 ( -- ) I Feel Fine - Beatles 6 ( 9 ) Saturday Night At The Movies - Drifters 7 ( 11 ) Walking In The Rain - Ronettes 8 ( 5 ) Time Is On My Side - Rolling Stones (#5) 9 ( -- ) Blue Christmas - Elvis Presley 10 ( 4 ) Leader Of The Pack - Shangri-Las (#1[3])
11 ( 15 ) Come See About Me - Supremes 12 ( 16 ) Baby I Need Your Loving - Fourmost 13 ( 8 ) Ringo - Lorne Greene (#8) 14 ( 7 ) All Day And All Of The Night - Kinks (#2[2]) 15 ( 12 ) Everything's Alright - Newbeats (#12) 16 ( 13 ) Good Morning Little Schoolgirl - Yardbirds (#13) 17 ( -- ) Genie With The Light Brown Lamp - Shadows 18 ( 10 ) Google Eye - Nashville Teens (#6) 19 ( 23 ) Goin' Out Of My Head - Little Anthony & The Imperials 20 ( -- ) Gone Gone Gone - Everly Brothers
21 ( 14 ) I Can't Stand It - Spencer Davis Group (#12) 22 ( 19 ) Show Me Girl - Herman's Hermits (#19) 23 ( 26 ) So Much In Love - Mighty Avengers 24 ( 22 ) Dance Dance Dance - Beach Boys (#22) 25 ( 20 ) Mr Lonely - Bobby Vinton (#19) 26 ( 17 ) Don't Bring Me Down - Pretty Things (#11) 27 ( 25 ) Big Man In Town - Four Seasons (#25) 28 ( -- ) What Have They Done To The Rain - Searchers 29 ( 18 ) Sha La La - Manfred Mann (#3) 30 ( 29 ) Whatcha Gonna Do About It - Doris Troy (#28)

-- ( -- ) No Arms Can Ever Hold You - Bachelors -- ( -- ) My Lord Forgive Me - Robert Goulet
The highest 4 acts to enter have all had #1s, 3 of them in 1960. Elvis was king back then. Blue Christmas is a classic song of his though. There's still 3 weeks until the Christmas chart (ok, 2 officially but we'll count 26 December as a week for Christmas hits too) so it might climb to #2, at least...
