I note several posts about Celtic's hilarious defeat to the Gibraltar postmen's social club earlier this week. Perhaps those posts could be moved here ?

And what about Sam Allardyce as England manager ?
I think it would be a disaster. But it seems the media and the FA has decided that in this post-Brexit world, the England team must have an English manager. And, short of digging up Brian Clough, I'm struggling to think of anyone who could do the job anything better than abysmally.

Allardyce isnt the perfect choice but i think he will do a better job than Hodgson
Positives: We will have a backbone Won't lose to teams like Iceland Has no loyalty to the current underperforming players Knows his best formation and tactics Will stick to his formula Will call up a balanced squad to fit that plan Will hopefully give deserving players a shot
That's all an improvement on Hodgson, not even mentioning the obsetion with calling up injured and unfit players. I think we all know the negatives but on the day we dropped to 13th in the rankings it's obvious we are not at the top level anymore. In league football terms we are a relegated team that needs to rebuild, a lot of people expect us to run before we can walk, we are so useless I wouldn't be surprised if a top young manager couldn't handle this lot and for me a transition manager to get us back to the basics is what we need. We can't even do the basics and a guy like Sam will drill this lot and sort out the backroom, get us solid and when his limitations are exposed we will be in a better position than we are now for that top manager

Sam Allardyce is good at achieving mediocrity with mediocre clubs. Yes he can keep teams like Bolton, West Ham and Sunderland from being relegated.
He's not an achiever that would be hired by a top club looking to win the league.
England want to fall under that category but are going for the kind of manager who might be better off managing a nation that is contented just to qualify for a major tournament.
Germany turned around their absolute disaster of Euro 2000 followed by losing to us 1-5 in the next world cup qualifying campaign with reaching the final of the next world cup, albeit with an easy run. Then another disastrous Euro 2004 by building a mostly new team that has reached every major semi-final since with 1 world cup win, one euro runners-up.
At the same time they have successful club football, with Bayern Munich being one of the better Champions League teams, so they can have both.

Newcastle bottom of the second division already. I meant to post that depressing news last night but was so shocked at our less than wonderful performance that I was too depressed to post it!

Have to say. I expected them to win that one I had a bet on us to win 3-0 so that's the pricely sum of £2 Newcastle have cost me so far this season!

Where are our usual "hopes and fears for your club this season" and the general prediction of how teams will finish?
I don't have much hope for my own club and the only thing we might achieve is avoiding relegation.
Who will go down from the Premier League? Palace, I hope. But they probably won't. Manchester teams with their new managers will do well. Arsenal will do ok but win nothing. Probably finish top 4 and above Spurs but that's about it. In the past 3 seasons, the previous season's winner finished 10th (Chelsea last year), 2nd (Man City in 2015) and 7th (Man Utd in 2014). So where for Leicester this season? Well maybe a bit higher than Chelsea last. 8th or 9th. Liverpool just outside the top 4 again, Chelsea I have no idea and Spurs similar to Liverpool and somewhere below Arsenal.. Southampton safe but nothing special. West Ham won't build on last season either and Stoke and Swansea their usual safe mid-table. Everton expect more but never achieve it and won't this season either. That leaves 2nd season syndromers Bournemouth and Watford, together with Palace, Sunderland and West Brom with the 3 promoted clubs. Have no idea who will go down from those. Bournemouth an obvious choice.

The clearest sign of a team about to experience "second season syndrome" tends to be a terrible run in the second half of the season and a narrow escape from relegation. That didn't happen to Bournemouth last season. I think they'll do OK. I can't see Hull staying up and Crystal Palace will struggle if they continue their form from the end of last season.

Another poor display by Newcastle... in fact today we were abysmal by all accounts. Don't worry, next game is against Reading and we're good at helping out of form teams out. We're ideal next opponents really! I'd expect a Newcastle win anyway though.

Hilarious to hear the chorus of boos ringing around the Emirates Stadium yesterday. Where do Arsenal get these so-called fans from ? And how many years need to pass before they realise they have no god given right to win every match they play ?

Fingers crossed, legs crossed, in fact everything crossed. Surely we can't lose three games in a row? I hope Tom is more miserable than me after tonight's game!

Hallelujah, Newcastle have scored! It's the first time this season we have taken the lead so hopefully we can get a second before the usual "just before half time" goal is scored by the opposition...

Oh dear, how depressing! Guess what's just happened...
I just wish we could shut up shop before half time and actually defend for once. It's quite unbelievable as we do it every single time.
