Based on my huge interest in the discovering of good retro songs in 2017 year I wish to explore my music knowledge and dig in the ancient era of pre-chart music (a years before the official start of UK chart in 1952).
Can you recommend any female singers names from pre-chart era (mostly my interest belong to traditional pop genre) ?
Maybe you know any good sources with wide lists of the music releases from the first half of 20th century.
Also will be interesting to know the names of first recorded female singers.

Must be quite easy to find a list of wartime singers as there was a lot of women then Vera Lynne most obviously also the Andrews Sisters, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Gracie Fields and Anne Shelton don't know her but she seems to be popular. Although i suspect many of them had hit in the 50s as well so hmm..

Marie Lloyd back in the 1910s... She recorded the original version of "Piccadilly Trot", the oldest "pop" song to have reached my chart. (Not counting opera, classical and old hymns)
From the 1930s and early 1940s, as well as Vera Lynn: Judy Garland, Gracie Fields, the Andrews Sisters, Deanna Durbin, Connie Boswell, even Marlene Dietrich. Some sang as well as acted.

Ruth Etting is my best vintage discovery so far.
She was an American singing star and actress of the 1920s and 1930s, who had over 60 hit recordings and worked in stage, radio, and film.
