04/06/2017 Dan Wilson - Someone Like You
The former Semisonic front man/songwriter moved onto a career as a songwriter for other people, co-writing hits for Dixie Chicks; Adele; Taylor Swift; John Legend; P!nk; Jason Mraz; Keith Urban; Halsey; Weezer; Chris Stapleton; etc ... but on 4th August he releases the album Recovered, which as you might guess is cover versions of songs he (co)-wrote which were first recorded by other artists. Hence the lead single is that Adele song, which propelled her into pop outer space stratosphere leaving Duffy for dead .... come to think about it, whatever happened to the Welsh warbler ....

05/06/2017 Duffy - I Put A Spell On You
Nearly 10 years after her debut single Rockferry; and nearly 7 years since her terrible second album Endlessly; the Welsh warbler whom in the past 6 years has released just two tracks from the 2015 Legend OST, has released a taster from her forthcoming untitled third album, with this stunning James Bond theme like cover of the 1956 Screaming Jay Hawkins standard. But of greatest interest is the fact, that firstly, she appears to have got rid of her annoying vocal tics which ruined her second album & that "Rain On My Parade" track; and secondly; this track was co-produced, arranged, and features the guitar of Bernard Butler, whom she has reunited to come up with new material for her forthcoming long player "hopefully to be released later this year".

06/06/2017 Placebo - Life's What You Make It
Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal’s cover of the 1986 art rock classic by Talk Talk features a video directed by Sasha Rainbow, shot in Agbogbloshie, a former wetland in the heart of Accra, in Ghana, which is home to one of the world’s largest electronic waste dumps owned by a company belonging to one certain Donald Trump. It sets an apocalyptic backdrop of first-world waste against the daily lives of those who inhabit this thoroughly otherworldly space. To call this powerful would be an understatement.

12/06/2017 Aldous Harding - Blend
The New Zealand singer/songwriter whom many critics wish was the material of Lorde's second album (instead of her new underwhelming inferior version of Robyn sound) references that iconic scene from Francis Ford Coppola’s classic Apocalypse Now. Taken from her album Party released 19th May on 4AD records.

13/06/2017 Wolf Alice - Yuk Foo
Whilst Paramore have gone all very commercial The 1975 "the 1980s synth pop done wrong"; the four-piece alternative rock band from North London have gone in the very opposite direction going hardcore proto grunge rock (think Pixies full debut album Surfer Rosa). Brilliant. Their second album Visions Of A Life is due for release on 29 September.

They did say on Annie Mac last night this isn't typical of the album so I think we will still get some sweetly sung shoegaze pop as well

14/06/2017 Everything Everything - Can't Do
The Manchester art indie rockers return with a brand new track from their forthcoming 4th album A Fever Dream, due for release on 18 August 2017. This reminds me of Nile Rogers inspired Duran Duran meets Vampire Weekend, which is a very good thing.

15/06/2017 Shania Twain - Life's About to Get Good
The former Canadian country queen is back, with this self penned, Matthew Koma produced track from the 29th September released "Now", her first studio album in fifteen FIFTEEN! years. In that time she lost her voice (leading to her disastrous 2003 Superbowl half time humiliation); leading to surgery after retiring from performing in 2004 because of lesions on her vocal cords and diagnosed her with dysphonia - which was only properly resolved in 2010; and divorced her record producing husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange in 2010 ... This is one of four great new songs I've heard in the past 24 Hours .... the best of which with be my track of the day tomorrow (unless something unbelievably good betters it).

16/06/2017 Nerina Pallot - Stay Lucky
The self produced title track of the Jersey born female singer/songwriter's 6th studio album due for release in the autumn, is a sublime Zero 7 featuring Joni Mitchell mellow track, and a huge return to form after the shockingly tune free The Sound & The Fury album.
