Again, I would say Neil sedaka is the best known version. I don't think I'm even aware of a cover - who did it? "One Way Ticket" was covered by British disco band Eruption. The song became a big hit in Europe in the first half of 1979, topping charts in Austria and Switzerland, and reaching top 10 across Europe (# 9 in UK).

I just found out that Rainbow's Since You Been Gone is a cover...
Also by the same guy:
I always wondered why the Kiss version had the II at the end (they did partially rewrite it so it's not a straight cover)

Original version of "Take Me Home" was recorded by Cher and became Top 10 US single in 1979.
UK # 2 for Sophie Ellis-Bextor in 2001.

I thought The Housemartin's version was the original, as they're pretty indie and credible, but it was actually an r'n'b US hit in 1985.

Sorry, I've no idea how to add youtube links!

Most of those are best known as Stylistics songs. You Are Everything was their first hit in the USA, I think. In my chart it certainly was. Baby Don't Change Your Mind was written by Van McCoy, who also wrote "I Get The Sweetest Feeling" (though Jackie Wilson is the original recording). At the time Gladys Knight's version was in the chart he was also in the chart with his own "The Shuffle". On 18 June 1977 The Shuffle was #10 on its way down and Baby Don't Change Your Mind was #14 on the way up. Both songs peaked at #4.

Of the five, only Betcha By Golly, Wow and You Make Me Feel Brand New were hits for the Stylistics in the UK.
The Stylistics never released Baby, Don't Change Your Mind as a single, they recorded it for their 1976 album, Fabulous.

"You Make Me Feel Brand New" is on my current playlist. I'd forgotten Simply Red had even covered it but given it reached #2 in 1974 I'd hardly say it's "obscure" such that you would not have known of it.

Donny Osmond made lots of cover versions and so did Marie. Long Haired Lover For Liverpool was given as a new song to little Jimmy but his follow-up was also a cover version.
There were 2 versions released in 1955 - Georgia Gibbs had the hit with it but as was often the case in the USA a white person had the hit version of a song recorded by a black artist and as far as I'm aware Lavern Baker is considered the original version.

yes but the young generation have access to The Official Charts and spotify...
still if we're going to pick a Simply Red song you're less likely to know is a cover version I'd go for
because that's a song you'd associate as being a Simply Red song.

I've literally only just found out that Incognito didn't record the original of this song:

Incognito I think also covered "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" for which the original by Stevie Wonder is on my 1974 playlist.

The photo shows Buddy Holly and the two were musically connected through Norman Petty, who is credited as a co-writer.
When Sonny West's version found no success Norman Petty arranged for the Crickets to record it and they had a massive hit with it.
This Sonny West should not be confused with the actor who was also Elvis's bodyguard. This one is still alive, aged 82.

Based on big popularity of Finnish band Nightwish in my country I didn't know that "Over Hills and Far Away" is a cover of Gary Moore song from 1986 year (# 20 in UK chart).

From Blondie hits not only "Denis" was a cover. "Hanging on a Telephone" was the lead-off track on the Nerves's 1976 EP, the group's only release.
