I would have been rather shocked had that Joy Division song not made it to #1 in your chart.

I've never understood why Little Jeannie under-performed for Elton John. I've always considered it to be up there with his best.
In fact, the whole album from which it appears '21 at 33' is rather brilliant.
When somebody mentors Elton in the Haven Factor, I think he will be a really tough one to beat actually.

Retrospectively, Elton John seems to have a whole downer on his 1978 -1982 no Bernie Taupin as lyricist wilderness years, which is a real pity as I too think he did some great material with the likes of Gary Osbourne; Tim Rice & Tom "2468 Motorway/War Baby" Robinson.

Glad you are charting New Musik, I bought their album From A to B in 1980, remember having to write a speech and I borrowed their title 'Living By Numbers' as a title.

Glad you are charting New Musik, I bought their album From A to B in 1980, remember having to write a speech and I borrowed their title 'Living By Numbers' as a title. I always liked Living By Numbers in a proto Stephen Tin Tin Duffy way, but was not aware of their other singles .... one of the joys of compiling these Retro Rewind charts is discovering minor gems such as This World Of Water and the album From A To B for the very first time.

A second Retro Rewind chart topper for the original "Mighty Bush" .... in a week with 14 (Fourteen!) new entries from:
- The UK, South Africa, Ireland, the Netherlands, & Belgium #1, and USA #8 (AC #1), Canada #10 & Australia #7 ballad (with the original demo title of "The Story Of My Life") was the first single from the group's Super Trouper album, was written by both Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, with Agnetha Fältskog singing the lead vocal. The breakup classic tale of divorce is non biographical according to both Agnetha & Bjorn who had just got divorced, although many critics think otherwise.
- The Wall rock classic written by guitarist David Gilmour and bassist Roger Waters was released as the third & final single from the double concept album. Incredibly it never charted at the time. But what a classic it has since become thanks to its ahead of its time tale of angst proto Grunge meets art rock sound predating the likes of Nirvana & Radiohead.
- The USA #4 (R&B #1), UK #7, Australia #10 & Canada #22 title track of the jazz guitarist's 1980 album written and composed by Heatwave's keyboard player Rod Temperton and produced by Quincy Jones.
- The self composed UK #34 debut single by English post punk band consisting of former Ants Dave Barbarossa, Leigh Gorman, Matthew Ashman, and singer Annabella Lwin, produced by their manager Malcolm McLaren written about (illegally) home taping on a blank cassette.
- The Scottish singer born Sheena Orr was the first British musical reality pop star via the television programme The Big Time: Pop Singer, which recorded her attempts to gain a record contract and her eventual signing with EMI Records. Hence, this second pop single written by British songwriter Florrie Palmer, and produced by Christopher Neill hit UK #3 & Ireland #2. But then it took hold in other territories reaching #1 in the USA, Canada, Australia & New Zealand.
- The Jamaican singer's UK #17 cover of the Pretenders song from her Island records first post disco album Warm Leatherette produced by Chris Blackwell & Alex Sadkin, and featuring Sly & Robbie.
- The English post punk band's UK #54 single from their third album, The Correct Use of Soap was composed by the group consisting of Barry Adamson, Howard Devoto, John Doyle, Dave Formula and John McGeoch.
- The Tim Finn penned & sung art rock ballad from New Zealand's best selling album of 1980 True Colours. It peaked at Australia #18 & New Zealand #33.
- The Martin Birch produced UK #43 title track of the third studio album by English hard rock band.
- The former Ultravox frontman's UK #35 hard edged synth pop stand alone single.
- The shock punk rock and heavy metal band formed by Rod Swenson and Wendy O. Williams in New York City scored a minor UK #55 hit on Stiff Records.
- The Wings' London Town album track written by Paul McCartney. McCartney thought of the song as one that Michael Jackson might like to record, and mentioned this to Jackson at a party in Hollywood. This UK #41 was released as the fifth and final single from the Off the Wall album.
- The USA #31 new wave melodic rock cover of the 1965 song co-written by Al Gorgoni and Chip Taylor made famous by The Hollies.
- The Scottish singer/songwriter's USA #54, UK #67, & Australia #52 lead single from the Snakes & Ladders album was his final chart entry outside of re-releases of his two most well known songs.
