LP a-ha - This Alone Is Love (LP Stay On These Roads)
My highest new entry comes from the former Bauhaus Gothic rock lead singer with his UK #95 single from his second solo album Love Hysteria.
My featured faller is the title track of the 16th studio album by the Canadian musician. The video for the title track – directed by Julien Temple and written by Charlie Coffey – included a Michael Jackson lookalike whose hair catches fire. The video parodied corporate rock and the pretensions of advertising, and was patterned after a series of Michelob ads that featured contemporary rock artists such as Eric Clapton, Genesis and Steve Winwood. The video also featured parodic inserts from commercials featuring impersonators of Jackson and Whitney Houston, as well as popular characters such as a Spuds McKenzie lookalike. The title itself mocks Budweiser's "This Bud's For You" ad campaign. It was initially banned by MTV after legal & libel threats from Michael Jackson's attorneys. However, Neil Young got his "revenge" as it won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Video of the Year defeating the favourite ...... Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal!

My featured faller is the farewell UK #35 single by the shortlived Hull indie pop band. Lyrically it was an unfavourable account of Paul Heaton's schooldays akin to The Smiths' "The Headmaster Ritual".

Climbing to an unlikely Retro Rewind #1 hit is the former guitarist/main songwriter of the Americana Canadian outfit The Band. Co-Produced by Daniel Lanois, initially released on his debut solo album Robbie Robertson, with Sam Llanas on backing vocals. Confusingly the video for this UK #15 & Canada #91 features Maria McKee in this Martin Scorsese directed video.
My highest new entry. That riff; those vocals; that chorus. If anyone tells you Bon Jovi's Living On A Prayer is better than this hard rock USA #1, Canada #7, UK #6 & Australia #11 from Appetite for Destruction, then they deserved to be ridiculed.
My featured faller is by the Barking indie pop band. Originally released as a bonus track on their 4 track EP Should the Bible Be Banned. This track picked up airplay by John Peel, and was reissued as a 7" single (peaking at #2 on the Indie chart). It has since been covered by the Manic Street Preachers; & Lily Allen.
