My highest new entry is Californian all female band's global #1 ballad hit taken from their third album Everywhere, which was a major factor in the band breaking up. Written by group member Susanna Hoffs with the established hit songwriting team of Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly they aimed for "Olivia Newton-John being backed by the Mamas & Papas sounding track". As the rest of the band were unhappy with their lack of musical participation on this track, producer David Sigerson pranked her by telling her Olivia Newton-John recorded unclad which Hoffs duly recorded her vocals naked. This falsehood Sigerson eventually admitted to which caused major friction between Hoffs & the rest of the band, as she called a band meeting at the end of their 1989 tour to tell them she was going solo, and so the band was no more for a decade.
My featured faller was the UK #16 written and produced by Pet Shop Boys for the 1989 film Scandal, an account of the Profumo affair, a famous British political scandal in 1963 which severely undermined confidence in the ruling Conservative Party government. It also prominently features an orchestral arrangement by Angelo Badalamenti and a soprano saxophone solo by Courtney Pine. Chart Watchers may note it includes the lyric: "Please Please Me's number one" which upset the Gallup Organization, compilers of the UK charts then, as they had retrospectively included the only one of the four pre 1969 charts compilers who did not have The Beatles second single as a UK #1 hit.

40 Daryl Braithwaite - One Summer (1wk 40 NEW)
LP Bon Jovi - Blood On Blood (LP New Jersey)
My highest new entry comes from the reformed London post punk band with a track which peaked at UK #68 & made #2 on the Billboard Modern Rock tracks chart.
My featured faller is the combative UK #43 alternative rock track released as the lead single from her second studio album Kite. It was written by MacColl (It was solely credited at the time to her, as due to legal shenanigans in the fall out of his divorce from The Smiths & Morrissey, retrospectively confirmed to have had its tune composed by Johnny Marr, who also supplies the distinctive guitar work), and produced by Steve Lillywhite.

This track by the North Carolina born, Canadian based songwriter was a song about an independently-minded radio DJ who rebels against being given a playlist by his boss, was particularly admired and much played on BBC Radio 1 by British DJ Roger Scott and BBC Radio 2 DJ Bob Harris.

Debuting at #1 on my Retro Rewind chart is the second single from the Swedish singer R&B artist's debut album, Raw Like Sushi. This UK #5 track (which went top 10 throughout Europe) originally written by Cherry, was shaped by Massive Attack (Nellee Hooper & Robert Del Naja (3D)); & producer husband Cameron McVey. It features a memorable video directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino.
Co-written by Elvis Costello, this was the first solo track which saw Paul attempt to reclaim the mid 1960s sound of his former band (The Beatles), so possibly influenced by George Harrison's When We Was Fab). It peaked at UK #18, USA #25, Canada #17 & Australia #30 and #1 in Japan. It was the lead single from his 1989 album Flowers in the Dirt.
My featured faller is a USA #14, Canada #9, Australia #7 remix of the 1982 UK #35 cover of The Dixie Cups' 1965 hit, as the track was prominently featured in the 1988 film Rain Man (to this day I believe Tom Cruise was robbed of the best supporting actor Oscar, but I guess his proto David Beckham image did him more harm artistically, whilst rewarding him financially). The music video features scenes from the Rain Man movie as well as Belle Stars lead singer Jennie McKeown (the seven piece girl band down sized to a trio in 1984 before calling it a day in 1986).

Climbing to top my Retro Rewind chart is the song written by band members Paul Heaton, and David Rotheray. The first and highest-charting single (UK #2) from their debut album Welcome to the Beautiful South was a cynical & gently subversive take on singer songwriters taking inspiration from relationships and Stock Aitken & Waterman's PWL Hits factory.
My featured faller is by the English three-person alternative rock band formed in Tooting, South London with their shoegazing sounding 3rd single. Taken from their debut album Love Is Hell.
My highest new entry is this Acid House take on the 1972 T-Rex UK #2 classic. Sadly this UK #53 by the British electronic music record producer is not on Spotify.
