Day 3: SHAUN MURPHY 10-5 LYU HAOTIAN MARK SELBY 6-10 JOE O'CONNOR GARY WILSON 5-10 STUART BINGHAM 4-time champion Mark Selby exits in the first round, losing to debutant Joe O'Connor. After the match, Selby once again reiterated his intention to consider his future in the game. Another seed to fall was Gary Wilson, who struggled to get going against 2015 champion Stuart Bingham. No such problems for 2005 winner Shaun Murphy, who put in an impressive performance to beat Lyu Haotian. Nevertheless, of eight completed matches so far, five seeds have been defeated. Other scores: Robert Milkins 4-5 Pang Junxu Mark Williams 5-4 Si Jiahui

Day 4: ROBERT MILKINS 10-9 PANG JUNXU MARK WILLIAMS 9-10 SI JIAHUI Another seed fell as last year's semi-finalist saw off a fightback from three-time champion Mark Williams, who suggested it could be the last time he plays at the Crucible. Robert Milkins almost became the seventh seed to exit but managed to edge a tense encounter against Pang Junxu. Other scores: Kyren Wilson 8-1 Dominic Dale Mark Allen 7-2 Robbie Williams Ding Junhui 4-5 Jack Lisowski Barry Hawkins 4-5 Ryan Day

Reckon an extended break will do Selby some good. Just take time out of playing and pick up on some other things like media work. I don't think he'll quit playing entirely. However, I thought the grilling from the numerous interviews after the match was a bit unnecessary.
Interesting how the future of the Crucible seems to be hotly debated more so this year than in previous years - with Vafaei's and Ronnie's comments, Rob Walker's defiant intros of Sheffield and the Crucible in every session and other opinions being featured on the BBC and the WST YT channel. Does seem the debate is split into 2 camps - Tradition or Money/overseas - where the older generation (bar Ronnie) favouring tradition and the younger generation generally favouring money/moving overseas. I hope it does stay in the UK if it does move - Manchester Central won't be a bad shout after the relative success of the Tour Champs.

Day 5: KYREN WILSON 10-1 DOMINIC DALE MARK ALLEN 10-6 ROBBIE WILLIAMS DING JUNHUI 9-10 JACK LISOWSKI BARRY HAWKINS 8-10 RYAN DAY Two more seeds fell, taking the total to 8, equalling the record for number of seeds to fall in the 1st round. Ding Junhui lost a final frame decider to Jack Lisowski, who described it as his best ever win. Ryan Day beat Barry Hawkins in a back and forth encounter. Day led 5-2, Hawkins won 6 frames in a row to lead 8-5 before Day won 5 in a row to seal victory. Hawkins reached the semis five times between 2013 and 2018 but now hasn't won at the Crucible since 2021. Kyren Wilson saw off Dominic Dale with ease and had the tournament's first genuine 147 attempt in the final frame but he missed the 12th red. Mark Allen is also through though Robbie Williams made the scoreline respectable in the end. Other scores: John Higgins 5-4 Jamie Jones Ronnie O'Sullivan 8-1 Jackson Page

Listening to President of Matchroom Barry Hearn's interview on the BBC and he essentially fired a warning to Sheffield Council to find a reason to keep the World Champs in Sheffield and fulfil (his) future demands by improving the venue, otherwise they will go elsewhere after the current deal ends in 2027 and "chase the money".
He said 4 options are possible - 1. Monitor the situation and stick with it - potentially on a short term deal
2. New/improved venue seating around 2500-3000 and a longer deal could be on the table.
3. Go somewhere else for 10 years
4. Alternate between different countries - UK, Saudi, China
I would hate it to be #4 but then money talks when it comes to snooker.

Day 10: JOE O'CONNOR 6-13 KYREN WILSON JOHN HIGGINS 13-12 MARK ALLEN JACK LISOWSKI 11-13 STUART BINGHAM RYAN DAY 7-13 RONNIE O'SULLIVAN John Higgins beat Mark Allen in a Crucible classic, winning the deciding frame with a clearance of 71 that started with a double, after Allen had a made a break of 62 and was just two pots from victory. Stuart Bingham came out on top against Jack Lisowski in another tight match. Lisowski missed a crucial pink to go 12-11 up and Bingham never looked back, sealing the match with a break of 75 in the next frame. Ronnie O'Sullivan made light work of Ryan Day to reach his 22nd Crucible quarter-final, while Kyren Wilson wrapped up victory very quickly against Joe O'Connor. Quarter-finals: David Gilbert v Stephen Maguire Kyren Wilson v John Higgins Judd Trump v Jak Jones Stuart Bingham v Ronnie O'Sullivan Jak Jones is the only player remaining who's never reached the semis at the Crucible. There are now just 3 players who can finish the season at no.1 in the world rankings. Ronnie O'Sullivan will be no.1 if he wins the tournament. Judd Trump will be no.1 if he reaches the final. Mark Allen will be no.1 if Trump loses in the quarter-finals and O'Sullivan doesn't win the tournament.

Day 12: DAVID GILBERT 13-8 STEPHEN MAGUIRE KYREN WILSON 13-8 JOHN HIGGINS JUDD TRUMP 9-13 JAK JONES STUART BINGHAM 13-10 RONNIE O'SULLIVAN A semi-final line-up absolutely no-one predicted. David Gilbert pretty much won his match against Maguire in the first session, with the Scot unable to close the sizable lead. Kyren Wilson produced an excellent evening session to see off John Higgins. Jak Jones took advantage of a woeful performance from Judd Trump to reach his first Crucible semi-final and Stuart Bingham produced his best performance in years to dump out Ronnie O'Sullivan. The exits for O'Sullivan and Trump today mean Mark Allen will become the new world no.1. This is the first time three qualifiers have reached the semi-finals of the tournament in its current format. We're guaranteed a first-time matchup in the final for the fifth year in a row. The last repeat final was Trump v Higgins in 2019. Semi-finals: David Gilbert v Kyren Wilson Jak Jones v Stuart Bingham

There was a bit of a debate going on after the match, with how Ronnie behaved with the ref during his QF match.
First with the spotting of the black ball, which Ronnie asked to be respotted several times, as it kept rocking back into a imprint on the cloth just behind the black spot and impeded with the potting angle of his next shot. Even though it wasn't the refs fault, he still implied it was deliberate by the ref in an interview between sessions on Eurosport.
Second with the refs handling of the crowd whilst eyeing a pot into the green pocket and people coming down the stairs during a mid session interval on the other side.
I know there's history with Ronnie's attitude and the refs. With him and Judd out, I can't remember a SF line up so open and where there's not been a clear favourite to win.

Day 15: DAVID GILBERT 11-17 KYREN WILSON JAK JONES 17-12 STUART BINGHAM Two semi-finals which were close in the first half but saw the winner pull away in the latter stages as the beatan player faded away. Wilson is through to his second Crucible final, having lost to Ronnie O'Sullivan in 2020. Jak Jones is through to his first ranking final at any tournament and is the lowest ranked World finalist since Shaun Murphy in 2005, though he is now guaranteed to climb into the top 16.

Day 17: KYREN WILSON 18-14 JAK JONES A final that was effectively won in the first session when Wilson took the opening seven frames. Jones did incredibly well to stay in the match but never managed to get the deficit to less than three. This is the first time since 2015 that we've had first-time champions in back-to-back years (Mark Selby in 2014, Stuart Bingham in 2015). There have been two occasions during the Crucible era where we've had first-time champions in three conscutive years: Terry Griffiths, Cliff Thorburn and Steve Davis from 1979-81 and Mark Williams, Ronnie O'Sullivan and Peter Ebdon from 2000-02. Wilson becomes the new world no.3 behind Mark Allen and Judd Trump, while Jones climbs into the top 16 for the first time, at 14.
