Snooker will return on June 1st with the Championship League. The tournament's been going quite a while and is usually a fairly casual non-televised event with a slightly complicated group format that takes place over the course of several months. It's run by Matchroom rather than WST, so it doesn't count towards the world rankings though the winner goes onto the entry list for the Champion of Champions tournament.
This year, with it being the first tournament since the lockdown began, there is much more interest and this year's event will be shown on ITV. It's taking place at Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, with players staying at on-site accommodation during the tournament.
This year's tournament is again based around groups but with different numbers. There will be 64 players involved in the 1st round, playing in 16 groups of 4. The 16 group winners go through to Round 2, which will consist of 4 groups. The 4 group winners go through to the final group on June 11th to determine the overall winner, who will receive £30,000. All matches will be the best of 4 frames, with 3 points awarded for a win and 1 for a draw.
The draw: (world ranking in brackets)
GROUP 1 (Sat 6th) Stuart Bingham (13) Ricky Walden (41) Jordan Brown (74) Jamie Clarke (90)
GROUP 2 (Mon 1st) Judd Trump (1) Daniel Wells (51) Elliot Slessor (70) David Grace (85)

Enjoyed watching this yesterday. Looks a good set up in Milton Keynes though the "Arena" they're using isn't an arena at all, it's just a very large open space, which can be used for a variety of purposes. It would actually be a perfect setting for hosting qualifiers for tournaments, though I don't know what the venue is like in terms of availability in usual circumstances.
Good job by ITV as well. Presenters all at home, commentators at the venue but in a back room away from everyone else. It's been kind of funny watching the players get used to the situation with the rest, having to get their own rather than wait for the referee to pass it from under the table.

Luca Brecel and Mark Joyce progressed from Tuesday's groups, Brecel winning his group thanks to achieving a higher break than Jack Lisowski.
Yesterday's winners were Harvey Chandler and Ryan Day. In Chandler's group, Joe Perry drew all 3 of his matches.
Matthew Stevens was supposed to be playing in Group 14 today but has withdrawn and will be replaced by Gerard Greene.

The MK venue is about the only venue making any money currently!
Ronnie won his first match in 41 minutes. Looks as good as he ever does.

Luca Brecel has won the Championship League, winning a deciding final frame against Ben Woollaston to take the title. This was a non-ranking event but Brecel does earn a place in the Champion of Champions tournament later this year.
Meanwhile, Ding Junhui has withdrawn from the Tour Championship due to the ongoing Covid-19-releated travel issues. He is replaced in the tournament by Stephen Maguire, who is ranked 9th on the one-year list. The tournament was originally due to take place in March but was postponed on the morning it was due to start because of the pandemic.

Inconsistent luca looked in very good form today. Amazing he's only 25. He's been around for nearly a decade already.

Crazy, isn't it? For a while he looked like fulfilling his potential. I don't know what's gone wrong in the last year or so but at that age he still has plenty of time to turn things around. Hopefully this is the start.
Credit to Woollaston too, who's had a great week.
