David Gilbert won the Championship League, beating Mark Allen in the final to finally win his first ranking title, 19 years after he first turned professional. The British Open starts on Monday. It features a random draw for each round, with matches played as best-of-5 until the quarter-finals, which are best-of-7, as are the semis. The final is best-of-11. Among the matches thrown up by the "random" draw for the 1st round are world champion Mark Selby facing Shaun Murphy in a repeat of this year's Crucible final and Mark Allen taking on his ex Reanne Evans. thanks dude guessing snooker on free sports week ant live and stphen hendrey playing itv4 has ronny pulled out never playing thinks dude trump playing night tusday All goodddx Holllaa Upppppppp

The Championship League was live on Free Sports.
Stephen Hendry didn't play.
Ronnie O'Sullivan reached the second stage of the Championship League but then pulled out.
Stephen Hendry is playing in the British Open and faces Chris Wakelin in the 1st round. Ronnie O'Sullivan isn't bothering.

I'm not a fan of ridiculously short matches but I like the idea of a tournament with a random draw for each round.

I'm not a fan of ridiculously short matches but I like the idea of a tournament with a random draw for each round. This format is almost identical to the World Open when it was first re-branded, having previously been the Grand Prix (which had already been tinkering with its format for several years in an attempt to remain one of the BBC's televised events). The only difference being it's a flat 128-player draw, rather than the top 32 getting a bye to the latter stages. It didn't really take off and the BBC dropped it, with the tournament subsequently taking a more conventional form and moving to China. (This was the tournament where Ronnie O'Sullivan initially refused to pot the black for a 147 break until referee Jan Verhaas persuaded him to.)

A 147 for John Higgins today in his win over Alexander Ursenbacher. It's his 12th career maximum, putting him clear in 2nd on the all-time list ahead of Stephen Hendry, with only Ronnie having made more, with 15. Interestingly, since Ronnie's last 147 three years ago, John Higgins has made four.
The big Allen v Evans grudge match is tonight...

Looks like he's lost some of that lockdown weight too...
Just finished watching the Allen v Evans match and I don't think I've ever watched a snooker match that not only was tense from the start, but was so hostile too. A gutsy but lucky win for Allen but bodes well for Evans if she can play like that for the rest of the season.

Reanne played really well, shame about that match ball red on the cushion. I'd like to see her produce that kind of performance more often but it's a case of whether she can consistently raise her game like she did tonight. She was clearly fired up for that match.

That would suggest the tactical side of his game is a major weakness as he clearly has the break-building ability of a top 10 player...

In other news, the Scottish Open in December will now be played in Wales. The change was announced a day before tickets were due to go on sale, due to a "contractual issue", believed to be the fact Emirates didn't want an event sponsored by a betting company taking place at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
It will now take place at Venue Cymru in Llandudno, the same venue for the Tour Championship.

It's Gary Wilson v Mark Williams in the British Open final on Sunday. Wilson beat fellow geordie Elliot Slessor in the semis, Williams beat Jimmy Robertson. The final is best of 11, taking place in the evening.
Williams is looking for his 24th ranking title in his 37th final. Wilson is looking for his first title, having lost his only previous final at the 2015 China Open.
