Day 12: DAVID GILBERT 13-8 KYREN WILSON JOHN HIGGINS 13-10 NEIL ROBERTSON GARY WILSON 13-9 ALI CARTER JUDD TRUMP 13-6 STEPHEN MAGUIRE Gilbert and Gary Wilson both reach their first Crucible semi-final. Higgins is in his 10th and Trump his 4th. Higgins and Trump met in the 2011 final, with Higgins winning 18-15. Neil Robertson's exit means Ronnie O'Sullivan is guaranteed to finish the season as world #1. Trump or Higgins can climb to #2 if they win the final. Gilbert can go as high as #4 if he wins Trump loses his semi-final. Gary Wilson could end the season as high as #8, having started the tournament as the world #32 and will at worst be #20.

Day 15: DAVID GILBERT 16-17 JOHN HIGGINS GARY WILSON 11-17 JUDD TRUMP John Higgins fights back to win a thriller against David Gilbert. Gilbert led 16-15 but a 139 break brought Higgins level and a break of 55 in the decider earned Higgins his 8th final appearance (winner in 1998, 2007, 2009 and 2011; runner-up in 2001, 2017 and 2018), taking him level with Steve Davis and just one short of Stephen Hendry. Judd Trump managed to shake off Gary Wilson in the morning session and wrapped up victory in convincing fashion this evening. He is in his 2nd final, the previous one being in 2011, when he lost to Higgins. However, back then Trump was merely "the next big thing", rather than an established top level player. If Higgins wins, he'll break the record Mark Williams set last year for the longest gap between first and last world titles in the modern era.

The Final, Session 1:
John Higgins 4-4 Judd Trump
An excellent first session, with two centuries for each player. No sign of nerves or fatigue, though the latter may be more of a factor tomorrow. No final has gone to a deciding frame since 2002. This one could go the distance. 9 more frames to be played tonight.

The Final, Session 2:
John Higgins 5-12 Judd Trump
Higgins won the opening frame of the evening with a century but Trump won 8 frames in a row to move to within 6 frames of winning his first world title and becoming the 11th triple crown winner in snooker history. The last time the world final was won with a session to spare was in 1993, when Stephen Hendry beat Jimmy White 18-5.

It's strange that we see so many new players breaking through, but it's the old school that keep being there winning.
This would be Trump's first win but he's been around a long time and this is a rematch of the final 8 years ago.
John Higgins first won the title in 1998 and this is his 3rd consecutive final, although it looks like he might lose 3 in a row.
Jimmy White lost 5 finals in a row between 1990 and 1994 as well as 1984 and of course never won it. 1994 was his best chance when he missed a black off its spot in what could have been a frame-winning clearance in the final game.

The Final, Session 3:
John Higgins 9-16 Judd Trump
Higgins came close to a 147 in the opening frame, Trump came close in the final frame. In between the two shared more high quality snooker, breaking the record for the most centuries in any match, and taking the total in this year's World Championship to 100.

JOHN HIGGINS 9-18 JUDD TRUMP Trump picks up the 2 frames he needed to become world champion the first time. Whilst the final lacked drama, it was undoubtedly the highest quality final the Crucible has ever seen.

Agreed. It wasn't close (thanks entirely to Trump's brilliance last night), but it was great to watch.

When Judd Trump was runner-up in 2011 then went on to win the UK championship that year I predicted he'd be a world champion but didn't expect him to take so long to achieve it. I thought he was going to win it in 2015 but lost to Stuart Bingham in the semi-final 17-16.
Having watched him play, not only was his break building magnificent, but also his safety play and his opening long potting to get him into winning positions.

The season is very much underway now. China's Yan Bingtao won the Riga Masters, beating Mark Joyce in the final to take his first ranking title.
Judd Trump won the International Championship at the weekend, beating Shaun Murphy in the final and in the process, overtaking Ronnie O'Sullivan to become the new world no.1.
Next is the Paul Hunter Classic in Germany though this is now an invitational tournament instead of a ranking event. The next ranking tournament is next month's China Championship.
