I have made a mistake and duplicated a song which means I need a sub there is nothing strong enough so we will just have to move everyone up one. bbl

My # 1 of 1982 was a big hit, but almost everybody dislikes this song now. Nicole?

65 Go Wild in the Country – Bow Wow Wow
I said they would have another entry this one I much preferred though. It reached #7 in the UK.

64 It Ain't What You Do It's the Way That You Do It – Fun Boy Three, Bananarama
So much pop in this year, I think probably more than any other. This was our first introduction to Bananarama and they will guest on their next single as well. This was Fun Boy Three's biggest hit reaching #4 in the UK.

63 I Won't Let You Down – Ph.D.
The one and only appearance for this Scot fronted band , the singer of course Jim Diamond, who we may see again but I think he might just have missed the cut. The rest of the band were ex members of the Jeff Beck Group. This song reached #3 in the UK.

62 House of Fun - – Madness
The pop dominance continues with I think Madness's biggest hit. A stand alone single it was easily a UK number one, helped of course by their usual zany video.

61 Gypsy – Fleetwood Mac
Phew at last a break from all this UK pop with one of Fleetwood Macs best ever singles. I would rate this in Stevie Nicks top 3 vocals. This reached #12 in the US and #just #46 in the UK.

60 Who's Crying Now – Journey
Yes more Journey, I really don't get why they are knocked so much, even this live version of the track is brilliant. This reached #4 in the UK and was their biggest hit in the Uk until 'Don't Stop Believin' in 2009 and even then it only reached #46.

59 Why – Carly Simon
One of the best female singers ever but I think most of her other songs will struggle to make the cut. I think I liked it more as I got into the remix that was out in 1989. This version though reached #10 in the Uk and #74 in the US.

58 Here I Go Again – Whitesnake
I am trying to avoid charting the same song in more than one list but this will be one of the exceptions as the 1987 version is so brilliant and so different from this but this original version is still good enough in its own right to make #58. This version reached #34 in the UK.

57 Jackie Wilson Said – Dexys Midnight Runners
Just so you all know we will not be having 'Come On Eileen' in this list it just missed the cut and really it is just to annoying now. So I think this is Dexys biggest song in my lists. This Van Morrison cover reached #5 in the UK.

56 Lifeline - Spandau Ballet
Spandau Ballet's only appearance in 1982 and the first single taken from their 3rd album 'True'. I think we will be seeing a lot more from that record. This reached #7 in the UK.

55 Love My Way – The Psychedelic Furs There are a few songs in this list that I discovered through the old Yahoo Dotmusic radio page, anyone remember that, it was a bit like Spotify radio, you picked a song and it found songs kind of similiar. I only really knew Psychedelic Furs for 'Pretty In Pink' and 'Heartbreak Beat' so discovering they had lots of great music like this was brilliant.
This track reached #42 in the UK and #44 in US, this is the quality music you miss with top 40 boundaries sadly

54 Hymn – Ultravox
Still no drop in quality from Ultravox so many great singles, again with their trademark sinister synth production, a band really for Cold War times. Great video as well showing a bit of support for Labour and warning about The Man who is really in control. The Illuminati is real! This track reached #11 in the UK.

53 The Message – Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
And now we can safely say the greatest rap record of at least the first half of the 80s. I think I have always like rap or hp hop that is either fun, De La soul, RUn DMc etc or has a message Public Enemy, Kendrick Lemar etc. If you sing about bling and girls zzz. This track reached #8 in the Uk and #62 in the US.

52 Gloria - Laura Branigan
Disco is starting to getting rare now but Laura Branigan keeps it going mixing it with pop/rock mind you, she will do the same thing with Hi-Nrg in a future list. A worldwide hit it reached #2 in the US and #6 in the UK.

51 Should I Stay or Should I Go - The Clash
As we all know this song will become a much bigger hit in the 90s but this is the right place for it, probably one of my top 5 Clash songs. It reached #17 in the UK in 1982 and #45 in the US.

50 Beat Surrender – The Jam
This is starting to sound like a great jukebox now, every song from this batch onwards is brilliant. This was the Jams final single and their 4th UK number one. How brave where they going out in such a high. The Northern soul sound on this track was maybe hinting at where Paul Weller was going next with his next project.

49 Avalon – Roxy Music
Seriously this top 50 is so good everything is too low. The fact I had to make this #49 is a travesty. Second single from my favourite Roxy Music album 'Avalon' oh shoot me for being obvious. This reached #13 in the UK, really thought it was higher?!

48 Mirror Man - The Human League
Yes I know, its ridiculous. First single from their new album 'Fascination' no drop in quality after the brilliant 'Dare!' single wise at all. This reached #2 in the UK and #30 in the US.
