63 Kings of the Wild Frontier – Adam & The Ants
The song that I fell in love with first, this was the new band for my generation. When you start getting into music I think most people have a new band that just appears at that same time and Adam & And The Ants were mine. The problem with them is most of their songs haven't aged well. This song would eventually reach #2 on re-issue in 1981.

62 Runaway Boys – Stray Cats
Another song from my first tape of the radio, you talk about songs not changing this song was already retro in 1980 so it has aged much better than Adam & The Ants. It reached #9 in the UK.

61 Let’s Go Round Again – Average White Band
Back to the sound of disco but this time from a very unlikely place a bunch of white guys from Scotland hence their name I guess. This reached #12 in the UK charts.

59 Super Trouper – ABBA
This is the only song I bought at this time in 1980 that made the list, I didn't really buy or get much music bought for me at this age. I think 9 year old me got a kick out of the fact that ABBA knew were Glasgow was hehe. This was a number one of course.

58 Messages – Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
First appearance of many as well for OMD, they were definitely one of my favourite bands in this era but many songs like this one, I discovered later on their best of album. 'The Best of OMD' probably one of my favourite compilations ever. This song was their first top 40 hit reaching #13.

57 All Out of Love – Air Supply
Over these last few weeks I have heard a lot of Air Supply but this song is in so much a different league from the rest of their stuff, I just can't get into it i'm afraid, not enough for them to make any more appearances on these lists anyway. This song reached #2 in US and #11 in the UK.

56 Talk Of The Town Pretenders
I have always been a bit hit and miss with The Pretenders but I love this one and it has a very stylish video, they have one more song to come. This reached #8 in the UK.

55 Bankrobber – The Clash
Another appearance for The Clash, they still have one to come. I am wondering if Hit Factor has helped them out here. This reached #12 in the UK.

54 Could You Be Loved – Bob Marley & The Wailers
I have always kind of taken Bob Marley for granted but doing this showed how much I like many of his songs although I guess he would have done even better in 70s lists. I wonder if we could see him in Hit Factor some time? This reached #5 in the UK.

53 Fashion - David Bowie
Second last appearance for Bowie in my 1980 chart. This was the 2nd single from his 'Scary Monsters And Super Creeps' album and reached #5 in the UK.

52 Spacer – Sheila & B. Devotion
Woh is this a curveball bet not many were expecting this, this was a song that I only really discovered recently. I heard it first on Mark Ratcliffe 6Music and then again on Ken Bruce Radio 2 and I just fell in love with it. It has that amazing Nile Rodgers production its just a total tune!! It reached #18 in the UK.

51 Another Brick In The Wall - Pink Floyd
Just before we get into the top 50, we get probably the most played video of 1980 and it was completely unavoidable in this year, everyone at school sung it, everyone talked about, it was everywhere. We all see those hammers , drummed into our subconscience. It was a number one in the UK and the US taken from their 1979 album 'The Wall' of course.

Right into the top 50 and it is banger after banger now. First we will have Michael Jackson fresh from its shock defeat in Hit Factor 3.
50 Rock with You - Michael Jackson
Yes it was a shock to me, I love this song and to back this up this is Michael Jacksons highest song for 1980, but I am sure we will see him again. This time a US number one and UK number 7.

49 Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime – The Korgis
I have always found this song a bit odd, its quite old fashioned even for 1980 but at the same time it had these great synths, which it turns out now weren't synths just reading now it was actually a real instrument a guzheng, so there you go. Its just so chilling. I loved the Baby D cover of this as well. Anyway it reached #5 in UK and #18 in US.

48 It's Still Rock and Roll to Me – Billy Joel
Its like we are never more than 5 songs away from a Hit factor act. Billy Joel will probably have a song in most of these lists. this was a US number one in August 1980 and reached #14 in the UK.

This song reached #2 in US and #11 in the UK. You've heard a lot of Air Supply? I'd have suggested for you among the other hits Sweet Dreams and Making Love Out Of Nothing At All, not sure you'd like any of the others, maybe Even The Nights Are Better a bit, and not sure you'd really be into The One That You Love and you didn't chart Just As I Am in the 1985 retro. There were some great album tracks: Chances, This Heart Belongs To Me and particularly Don't Be Afraid. That's one from each of their first 3 albums. Their 1985 album had loads of hidden gems on it, in particular "Make It Right" and "Sunset". Their weakest singles: Every Woman In The World, Two Less Lonely People In The World which are both just weak bland ballads and Here I Am which falls somewhere in between.

Yeh I have listened to all the singles you mentioned they just leave me cold , and just aren’t strong enough to finish in the top 200 of any of their years but thing is even making the playlist means the song is ok and at least 5 Air Supply songs are on my 80s playlists

Ok I'm going to quickly "rank" the Air Supply singles, all the ones that reached the US top 40..
1. All Out Of Love. Yes I agree that is the best song 2. Making Love Out Of Nothing At All 3. Sweet Dreams 4. The One That You Love 5. Just As I Am 6. Even The Nights Are Better 7. Lost In Love 8. Young Love 9. Here I Am 10. Every Woman In The World 11. Two Less Lonely People In The World
If I'd been choosing the singles to release, I'd have picked "Don't Turn Me Away" as the 2nd hit from The One That You Love (instead of Here I Am), "Chances" as the 3rd single from Lost In Love (instead of Every Woman In The World) and Don't Be Afraid as the 3rd single off Now And Forever (instead of Two Less Lonely People In The World) and "Make It Right" as the 2nd single off Air Supply (1985 album) instead of "The Power Of Love".
All my subs were written by the band. None of those I have replaced were.

Thing is you grew up being a fan , it is very hard to get into new songs from back then and try and compare them with songs you have known for nearly 40 years
