49. Ave Maria - Josh Groban Composed by Franz Schubert in 1825. This has been covered by people too numerous to mentionbut include the likes of Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Lesley Garrett and Michael Buble (who, if you're waiting for him to appear on my countdown then I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed!)

48. It's Gonna Be A Cold, Cold Christmas - Dana Despite being a number four smash hit in December 1975, this cosy Christmas classic is all but forgotten these days. Not by me! I have it up full blast every Christmas whilst drinking my nice warm mug of Irish coffee! (I made that last bit up but I do play it every year!)

47. I'm Your Angel - Celine Dion & R. Kelly One of Robert Kelly's finest compositions I believe, this makes it quite high on my Christmas songs countdown despite not technically being a Christmas song. It makes it onto here as it was the lead single from Celine's fantastic festive album 'These Are Special Times', which we have seen quite a few tracks from so far.

46. Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses Whilst Dana's #4 hit doesn't get much airplay anymore, this #45 1982 (hit) has had the opposite effect and you're almost guaranteed to hear it at least once a year while out shopping or on the radio. It's well deserved though as it is a classic.

I can't wait to find out where The Krankies - Have Yourself A Fandabidozi Christmas; Mr Blobby - Christmas In Blobbyland; & Hotpantz - (I'd Like To Give You) One For Christmas are in the top 50 ....

Oh I really like that. I must admit I've been impressed with their comeback songs this year - especially Amen!

45. Universal Child - Annie Lennox The lead single from her 2010 seasonal album, 'A Christmas Cornucopia', this is up there with the best of Annie's ballads and could have been on her 'Diva' album. I'm not sure what (if anything) it has to do with Christmas, but I've worked on the principal that if it's on a Christmas album then it must be eligible for inclusion.

44. Believe - Josh Groban I know what you're thinking - "Where are all the jolly Christmas songs?". Well there are plenty more to come, you just have to believe! Seriously though this totally gorgeous track is from the 2004 animated film 'The Polar Express'.

43. One More Sleep - Leona Lewis Leona's seasonal offering from 2013 managed to climb all the way to number three and is already on its way to becoming one of the Christmas big guns as it has charted every Christmas since then too. I think in less than twenty years this will be mentioned in the same breath as Mariah, Slade, Wizzard and Wham!

42. Another Rock And Roll Christmas - Gary Glitter We all know what he's done so I'm just going to talk about the song and say that it's still one of the best Christmas tunes of all-time, and that it is such a shame that it never gets played anymore.
If you can bear to watch, here's the video:

41. 2000 Miles - The Pretenders I'm not sure if this was considered to be a proper Christmas song at the time of its release in 1983 or not, but it definitely is now. I think this is one of Chrissie Hynde's best compositions whatever.

OK so we've had paedos, murdering producers and even the Fast Food Rockers... but you still might not be prepared for the track at #40.

40. The Twelve Days Of Christmas - John Denver & The Muppets If there's one time of the year when it's acceptable to listen to novelty songs then Christmas has to be it, and I just love the Muppets anyway so this is played every year without fail for me. The song itself dates all the way back to 1780 and has been recorded more times than Fozzie Bear has forgotten his lines.
Here is an alternative version of the song for you to enjoy:

39. Up On The Housetop - The Jackson Five The best track from their 1970 Christmas album, I hadn't realised that this was written back in 1864 and was the first song to focus on Santa Claus.

38. O Holy Night - Mariah Carey An even earlier song, although this is a carol so you'd expect that. Composed in 1847, this has been recorded numerous times including the likes of Josh Groban, Celine Dion and Il Divo.

We all know what he's done so I'm just going to talk about the song and say that it's still one of the best Christmas tunes of all-time, and that it is such a shame that it never gets played anymore. We also all know what Phil Spector has done. Essentially murder a woman and was convicted for it. Yet as a musical producer in the 1960s he was a genius and of course he produced a whole Christmas album back then. In fact the "Christmas sound" we get on many songs derives from what was created on that album. I wonder how many songs from it will appear on your list.

I have it up full blast every Christmas whilst drinking my nice warm mug of Irish coffee! (I made that last bit up but I do play it every year!) Better than the song she had a UK #1 with. It was co-written by Geoff Stephens, who also co-wrote the song she beat to win Eurovision, Knock Knock Who's There.
