Jan 01-Jan 13 1990
The first number 1 spilling over from 89 is none other than the Stone Roses, it couldn't be anything else other than combine the first two charts of the year to get going, the excellent Jimmy Somerville disco track is not far behind it in 2nd place, a bit of a guilty pleasure as it used to be played regular in my local Flares 80s club, My act in Haven Factor 3 Dusty Springfield is in 3rd, Electronic the super group consisting of Pet Shop Boys, New Order and Johnny Marr from the Smiths is in 4th, 5th is an American release by Warrant on January 6, 1990. Absolute Glam rock masterpiece. The rest of the top 10 speaks for itself, all pretty big hits

I has been trying to recreate my charts from the early 90s but have got stuck since the chart went top 75 in 1991 only as by this point I was buying so many non hits and even if I dig them all out of my garage I can't be sure when they were released.
As you know we do a retro year chart here currently 1986 so if we are all around here in 4 years you can make repost these in the shared chart thread.
Oh and great to see "No Myth' in there always suprised it didn't chsrt in UK

Yeah it's a great song. I can imagine if your recreating a chart it would be a massive ball ache. I have already discovered 3 or 4 songs and rediscovered a load I had forgotten about. Never know I might find something for Pop Idol.
The charts changing to top 75 might be a problem but if I never knew a song existed I guess it won't bother me as much as you who bought the single and had it in your chart. I'm loving listening to the playlist and will try and add all the new releases from the 2nd week in January later today

This will be quite fast moving too, if I did one every week it would take 10 year to complete

Based on UK charts 90-94 is my least favourite music period before the streaming era.
"Dear Jessie" and "Tears On My Pillow" (my favourite Kylie's single) were huge # 1s in my chart.

Funny you should say that LD. Even though I prefer a more indie/rock based music there is a huge gulf of quality between early 90s and late 90s also. I could pick any random chart from 97 or 98 for example and have it jam packed with quality songs of almost every genre.
With the lack of quality the cream really rises to the top in the early 90s as I can see Kylie, Sinead O Connor and every other major pop artist having top hits early on in my 90s charts

I dislike that period for huge success for dance music in charts, the most from them are my all-time least favourite UK # 1s.
I already have a list of my # 1s from 90s decade (based on UK singles chart) and got many unpredictable chart toppers in 1990-1995 years period, mostly because like only 2-3 songs per month and only some from them were top 20 hits in UK.
Maybe one day I will post it on this forum. Much more interesting selection, that endless # 1s for the same acts in my 80s charts.

Moving up to number 1 is Warrant with Sometimes She Cries, before I started this I had only heard Cherry Pie so this was a right treat. Jimmy Somerville hangs onto the 2nd spot for the third week in a row and last weeks highest new entry Sinead O'Connor moves up to number 3. No Myth by Michael Penn which didn't chart in the UK moves into my top 5 as another new entry last week by Kylie also climbs into my top 10. I bend the rules slightly to fit in my favorite band REM, Get up came out in America in September 1989 but never got a UK release which is as it would've been in and around the chart in 1990, Alice Cooper comes in at 24 after he breaks the American chart with House of Fire this week. Eric Clapton is a bit low in 30 but that will be remedied next update

Warrant spend there second week at number 1, Kylie climbs up to number 3 just behind Sinead O'Connor, Eric Clapton is the biggest mover, up 14 places from last weeks chart. Skid Row is the highest new entry with the excellent '18 and Life', Eurythmics are the next highest entry with The King and Queen of America and further down the cheesy Ultra Modern Nursery Rhyme by Terry, Blair & Anouchka makes an appearance, glancing at next weeks chart there are some beauties to come

March 4-March 10 1990
Depeche Mode and Faith No More switch places as the continue to dominate my chart but theres not a great deal of movement in the top 10 as the quality is settling at the top. Black Velvet by Alannah Myles is my highest new entry in a very strong week for new entries. I decided to chart the 1990 re-release of Baker Street but generally I'm not a huge fan of re-releases. Some great songs from Whitesnake, Erasure and Lush just outside my top 20 too
