Yeah so much missed the chart, all HIM, Misfits, some Rancid, early Idlewild, Kara’s Flowers (early Maroon 5), I've probably missed loads too Those first two Idlewild songs are very obscure 'Satan Polaroid' is where things really start, thats me finished 1996 Well I have tried to keep the spirit of my original charts while including more of the stuff I like today or got into years later and maybe cut back on some of the landfill and 99p dross I bought. I am pilfering lots from your chart as well but only got so much room hehe

To me yeah the OCS song is better. To you the Verve song is better To the British public Puff Daddy kept Bittersweet Symphony off number one! To the Rolling Stones, they would say the sample The Verve used from the Andrew Loog Oldham orchestral cover of the Rolling Stones' song "The Last Time" is the prototype of all no1s in the history Its all subjective, there is no definitive better or worse I am up to this debate now. It was slightly easier as 'Bitter sweet symphony' was a number one the first time for me but 'The End Is The Beginning' wasn't. It got the top spot. Then I have a faceoff between The Verve and Wallflowers - One Headlight which is one of my favourite songs that I got into later, its from a brilliant album. Even with all the overplay Verve still won , I am still in 2 minds hehe. As for OCS just #12 for me but agree it is one of their best.

In my top 2000 songs of the 90s OCS came out on top comfortably, so for me it was a easy choice, im not actually a big fan of Verve, I dont even own Urban Hymns or if I do I've never listened to it and it went straight into storage from a £1 bargain bin Looking back im still happy with my choice which means it was the right one for me, I also don't place much stock on a song being #1 or #2, its one place to me, for some its the difference between being relevant or being irrelevant, to me its no different to a song getting to #6 or #7, sure #1 is a badge of honour but that doesn't mean a great song that peaks at #2 less good, there were probably 30 weeks of the year the Verve song would've walked the top spot. The biggest conundrum for me came recently a few weeks ago Everlong by the Foos or Karma Police by Radiohead ha

9th November 1997 - 15th November 1997No huge hits this week, plenty of top 20 new entries miss out this week, Streisand, Moby, Gary Barlow, Texas, 187 Lockdown, Roni Size, none of them did anything for me but two new entries did make my top 40 this week with a lovely acoustic Cast song, John Power is such an under appreciated songwriter and at #40 we have Dust by Addict which peaked at #97 in the uk 1. Well I have just finished 1998 so ahead now, so can comment. Feeder still keep Ash of the top in my chart and I went for Roni Size as highest entry but its a pretty poor week overall. Thought you woudl have have charted Scooter thought you were a fan and this one I even like.

Which Aqua song is your favourite ? I don't know this No Doubt track and also will listen both Letters to Cleo entries. Great question, it depends what kind of mood I'm in, I always preferred Dr Jones to Barbie Girl but from their debut album but Around The World from their follow up is my favourite, its less novelty, just a pure joyous pop song

23rd November 1997 - 29th November 1997Lots to unpack here, a new number one with a great song by Natalie Imbruglia, highest new entry was a toss up between The Prodigy and the #1 single by Lou Reed and various other artists but I much prefer the original, a bit of pop cheese by Louise at #36 and some Modest Mouse at #42 and #68 from their The Lonesome Crowded West album, neither were singles but both personal favourites, below that are a few songs from late 1997 that came out a few weeks ago but I missed including Nightwish, Clinic and Of Montreal 1. "Torn" - the one from my least favourite big pop hits ever.
Tanya Donelly - very Courtney Love-ish type of act, which always will get my sympathy. For such pop lover as me 90s was very strange decade. Mainstream pop wasn't great before last two (maybe three) years, but rock/indie/britpop/guitar groups celebrated their golden era.

7th December 1997 - 13th December 1997Not surprising but this week is a very Britpop week with Cast scoring their 5th #1 in my chart and the highest new entry is my favourite song by The Seahorses, released just before they imploded, I did see frontman Chris Helme live not long before lockdown along with Cast, Space, Dodgy and The Bluetones at a britpop gig in Manchester which was amazing and maybe still fresh in the memory, at #17 we have a vintage new entry by Robbie Williams, i find his songs hit and miss but this one is a big hit for me. At #24 we have a brilliant song by Swedish band Kent, they did a few albums in English in the late 90s and this single was just great indie pop. At #34 are the Detroit band that would later become Electric Six, we have the power chords, sci fi themes and front man Dick Valentines distinctive vocals 1. (4.) Cast - I'm So Lonely2. (3.)
