100 (You Gotta ) Fight For Your Right (To Party) – Beastie Boys
I know I know why did this make the top 100 when those songs below missed? Remember I was 16 this was something we had never seen before, guys that look a bit like me doing rap music and mixing it with heavy rock. And of course it was very funny. One of the most played videos of 1987, it reached #7 in the US and #11 in the UK.

99 Love Will Find A Way – Yes
We haven't seen these guys in the top 100 for awhile. They are back with their best single since 'Owner Of a Lonely Heart'. This was written for Stevie Nicks but the band decided to keep it for themselves and it would be the first single of the 'Big Generator' album. It reached #30 in the US and #73 here.

98 Like Flames – Berlin
This was actually the lead single before 'You Take My Breath Away' much more epic and rock this time but was reissued and released after in the UK. I can see why it didn't do much here but it is much closer to Berlin's usual sound. It reached #47 here and #82 in the UK.

97 Forgotten Town - The Christians
I wasn't sure what I thought of The Christians in 1987, I liked them but i didn't totally get them. At the time 'Hooverville' was probably my favourite. Over the years I have liked them more and more. I decided their debut single was the one to make the top 100 but it was very close. Garry Christian just has such an great voice you can't help love this whole album really. this reached #22 in the UK.

96 Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now – Starship
This has actually dropped down the list quite far. It was a number one in my chart in 1987 but its not really a Starship song that I play now. But I did love it 1987 so I had to still include it in the top 100. It was a US and UK number one written of course by Albert Hammond and Diane Warren.

95 I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) – Whitney Houston
Another song that was a US and UK number one and also it was a number one in my chart as well. Being as 1987 was the year I started my chart it will never be closer to the real thing. This maybe should be a little higher but 1987 is just so competitive and there are a lot of personal favourites to include as well as these massive hits.

94 Gone Forever – Cry Before Dawn
And here is the first of these personal favourites. Cry Before Dawn were a brand new band from Ireland and this was their debut major label single. It was a huge hit in their native country reaching #11. The album 'Crimes Of Conscience' was one of my favourites of the year. Sadly this track didn't become the hit it deserved in the UK.

93 Sweet Little Mystery – Wet Wet Wet
Another brand new band this time from Scotland. This band had almost instant success in the UK well it did take a while for their debut single 'Wishing I was Lucky' to go top 40 but once it did they became one of the biggest new bands in the UK. Thanks to his cheeky chappie looks they attracted a large female following especially with this 2nd single. It reached #5 in the UK, I was always a bit of a fan in the quiet.

92 Paper In Fire – John Mellencamp
John Cougar Mellencamp as he is now know returns with possibly his best ever album 'The Lonesome Jubilee' so many great songs on this record which all good have easily made the top 100 as well especially 'Check It Out'. the single reached #9 in the US but just #86 here although the album did make #31.

91 Criticize - Alexander O'Neal
Now I loved this. One of my favourite songs that would be played at our village discos and my favourite Alexander O'Neal song. It just had everything right, voice, production and a killer chorus. A big hit here it peaked at #4 and got to #70 in US probably thanks to its Jellybean production.

90 Live It Up – Mental As Anything
I have RaLiverpool to thank for getting back into this song again as he has written very favourably about this band in his retro charts. Most famous song of theirs of course as it was the main song from 'Crocodile Dundee'. their only hit in the UK it reached #3.

89 Voyage Voyage – Desireless
1987 wasn't as full of Euro hits as much as 1985-86 but this French song track possibly the best song in French to chart in the UK was one of the few holiday hits. It will only get to #53 in 1987 but a fresh remix will power it up to #5 in 1988.

88 Rise to the Occasion – Climie Fisher
Another new band for 1987 who will stick around for a few years. This track has two versions an album version and a so called hip hop mix, we will stick to the original as I think its much better. Definitely one of the best new pop bands around, we will have more to come from them over the next two years. This song reached #10 in the UK.

87 Dude (Looks Like A Lady) – Aerosmith
Wasting no time capitalising on their comeback and worldwide success last year. They storm back into the charts with this lead single from 'Permanent Vacation'. Not a song that woudl be very popular now with the Tumblr/Twitter generation but we thought it was fun at the time. It reached #14 in the US and #45 in the UK. I thought it was bigger oh well.

86 House Arrest – Krush
1987 was a year of transition, lots of new sounds were bubbling under the surface and entering the charts mostly notably House. I wasn't really ready for most of it at the time but I did love this. I think it was the female vocal which was still kind of hi-nrg on top of the house beats and samples which sold it to me. It hit you like a hammer then now it seems a bit ordinary. They blew me away with this on TOTP. It reached #3 in the UK.

85 Ideal World – The Christians
More atmospheric pop from The Christians, this song was kind of adopted as a Xmas song even though it wasn't really. No more a Xmas song than 'Stay Another Day' for example but it doesn't get played at Xmas these days sadly. I think this is their best song. It peaked at #14 in the UK.

84 Crazy Crazy Nights – KISS
This was the first song I ever really noticed by KISS. I knew they were that band that painted their faces but other than that I never paid them any attention. But with rock back in the mainstream, they removed the makeup and scored a worldwide hit with this. It reached #4 in the UK but only #65 in the US wow.

83 Sign 'O' The Times - Prince
Another song i wasn't quite ready for in 1987. I liked it in then but I love it now. I really totally get it now. Also one of the first lyric videos I think, if it was realised now would it make Neil's chart lol? It got to #3 in the US and #10 in the UK.

82 The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades – Timbuk 3
Now we have a brilliant one hit wonder. Sometimes a song can be so clever and great it doesn't even matter what genre they are, it will be a hit. That's what happened with this US alternative band. It was a No Limits powerplay and got to #19 in the US and #21 in the UK. The song was so quotable that it still gets referenced today by many in our generation.
