Fab charts, the frightening thing is although I didnt write them down the song positions are strongly familiar in my memory, including those that failed to make the UK top 50!
The huge number of oldie reissues were most probably due to the unavailability of lots of 50's and 60's tracks for long periods of time, building up pent-up demand for stuff that wasn't available on (expensive) greatest hits compilations. There was also a big 50's rock n roll revival thing going on, as the pop stars of the day referred back to their child/teen years and older music fans were a bit more affluent and able to buy records they couldnt afford at the time. I was doing the same thing for 60's and early 70's music in the 80's and 90's, and indeed as a teen I was also big on childhood faves that suddenly popped up in the charts, or stuff I didn't know like Nut Rocker, Leader Of The Pack and many others.

Never realised that Radio Luxembourg's charts continued to the 90s. Does anyone know what criteria was used to compile them? Were they just made up lists? They were made up (from about 1967 onwards after Luxy stopped using the NME Singles chart) but were an attempt to project what the official chart would look like the following week. Fomer Luxy Programme Director and DJ Tony Prince admitted this back in the 90s at a Q&A meeting with Luxy enthusiasts after the station had closed. The obvious giveaway was when the BMRB charts were delayed by a day because of a Bank Holiday but as Luxy still aired its chart on a Tuesday night the chart Tony Prince compiled was quite literally a stab in the dark and the chart was often out of kilter with the official chart. Things would then go back to normal the following week.

I know Wonderful Dream is Tu Te Reconnaitrais, and you can forgive me for my ignorance as I only know the tail end of RL, but why the English version over the French version. But Dedato is still in German. Or was it because there was an English version available.
Sorry don’t want to sound a thicko, just want to understand.

I think they played the English version of Wonderful Dream, can't remember what version of Deodato they played.

Thanks Smokeyb - the English version doesn’t quite have the punch like the French, hence why I asked the question.
