Sweet - Sixteens
Another song from glam rockers the Sweet, this one is from 1974 and reached #9, it appears the band
dropped the word "the" from the band's name for some reason.
When this was in the chart in the summer of '74, I remember spending days picking strawberries
in fields in Perthshire, along with lots of other teenagers bussed in (no minimum wage in those days), a job now done mostly by our
European friends.

Fortunes - Storm In A Teacup
Written by Lynsey De Paul, this catchy song reached number #7 in 1972. Lynsey's own version was on
the b-side of her first hit "Sugar Me".
This was their last single to chart in the UK.

Secret Affair - Time For Action
They were a short lived mod revival band in 1979, and this was their first chart hit reaching #13.
They appear to be a poor man's Jam.

Smokie - Living Next Door To Alice

James Brown - Get Up Offa That Thang
James Brown penned song which reached #22 in 1976, one of those songs looking back I thought was
released in the 80's for some reason.

Nazareth - Bad Bad Boy
Nazareth hailed from Dunfermline which was only 10 miles from where I lived then, so they felt
important to me when I was young as every band seemed to be from far away.
This song was their second hit from summer of 1973 reached #10.

Elvis Presley The Wonder Of You
This was the last number one for Elvis while he was still alive, it spent 6 weeks at #1 in August 1970.
This song stopped Hot Legs(10CC) - Neanderthal Man getting to number one, who would have thought
Elvis would have something in common with Lieutenant Pigeon. (see 993)

Roy Wood - Dear Elaine
Roy's first solo single to chart in 1973 reaching #18 sounded more like early ELO rather than Wizzard.

Slade - Let's Call It Quits
By 1976 Slade seemed a bit out of step with the way music was going, punk was taking off and disco
was everywhere, having said that, this is by no means a poor song by Slade, a bit heavier than some of
their output it peaked at #11 in the spring of 1976.

Minnie Riperton - Loving You
A lovely song with an amazing octave, Minnie was diagnosed with cancer less than a year after this song
topped the UK chart in 1975, she sadly died in 1979, at the age of 31.

990-975
Smokie: Definitely a guilty pleasure. Oh Carol and Living Next Door To Alice would both be contenders for my Top 100.
Temptations: Often considered as a 60s Motown band, their best work was definitely produced during their psychedelic phase in the early 70s. I look forward to seeing more contributions by them.
Elvis: Definitely the decade with his worst output, but I'd still find room for at least 6 of his tracks in my Top 1000 of the decade.
That Timmy Thomas song is fabulous. Sade did a rather wonderful cover too, on Diamond Life.
That Nazareth tracks is a proper belter.

A great idea! And it will help the Haven Post Count plus open our ears to some forgotten gems, already so many I know on the list. ELO for #1 on the list then

Another act whose songs were composed by Chinn & Chapman they had quite a few hits in the second

The original Smokie version but not the original version as it was actually a cover version, having been previously recorded by New World.

The Minnie Riperton song is just gorgeous. It's a tragedy that she passed away so young.
I love quite a few so far, but have to mention that Faces track. I think it's one of the best things Rod Stewart ever put his voice to.
