#974-960 Macca, Bolan and Elton would all make plenty of appearances in my Top 1000, much like they will in your's , I'm sure. My favourite Carpenters track from the 70s stalled at #40 in the UK charts. Will be interesting to see if it made your list. I only came across Boz Scaggs in the 90s. I bought "Silk Degrees", and really like it. This is a good prompt to explore his catalogue in more depth. That Ides Of March song is new to me, but I really like it. Thank you smokeyb for the introduction. It sounded just vaguely familiar. It might be because of its corruption for this advert in the 1980s, but there might be a different explanation.

967.T Rex - Laser Love
Marc Bolan wrote some great songs in the early 1970's, by 1976 his chart positions had declined, this track
only peaked at #41, a far cry from 4 or 5 years previous when he was hitting the top spot.
By late 1976 (when this was released) he was back in London after two years of tax exile, and was getting his sh*t together losing weight (having become a Dad he stopped taking Cocaine + Cognac) and was regularly seen in the crowd at pub rock gigs. When he got his 1977 "Marc" ITV show he regularly booked (his show's booker was one Sally James) young punk rock bands because he saw which way music was going (& wanted to hoist his sail to that latest music tribe). It is a real shame he died before his 30th birthday ..... as I really think he would have launched a comeback (or at the very least become Jools Holland before the Squeeze keyboardist did for TV music shows).
Anyway, this track's B-side was a great song too (albeit far too poignant, far too soon):
T-Rex - Life's An Elevator

959.Labi Siffre - Crying Laughing Loving Lying
Labi Siffre's second charting single peaked at #11 in 1972.
Similar to Minnie Riperton this immensely talented artist is remembered for two songs (one from the 1980s); and another presumably to come (which is probably eclipsed by its cover version).
However, his finest track (& the one which has made him the wealthiest) is surely this 1975 album track which features the future Chas & Dave (on guitar & bass); as well as the replacement for Siobhan Fahey in Bananarama on backing vocals):
Labi Siffre - I Got The...

#960-951
Some great cuts in that batch. I think the O'Jays are a much underappreciated band. Thanks to the superb songwriters Gamble & Huff, and McFadden & Whitehead, they had some great material to work with.
Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" is also a wonderful song. Its country & western arrangement is curious, and now sounds very dated. I'd say it was high time the track had a modern makeover - it could be huge.

I absolutely adore 'Drift Away', although unfortunately I was introduced to it via the Michael Bolton version. Thankfully I came to discover the far superior original though.
