Day 3 Brit results
To finish off the round 1 matches
Harriet Dart beats Rebeka Masarova in 2 sets 6-1 6-4 A match that should have been played yesterday but postponed due to rain delays. Harriet continues on with her breakthrough season with a impressive win against a lower ranked player. There was expectation for her to win this match and it was a dominant performance.
She next plays 8th seed Jessica Pegula, whos having a bit of a breakthrough season herself.
With Harriet winning, she becomes the 10th British player to play in the 2nd round of Wimbledon. The highest number since the early 80s. Absolutely astonishing really given the state of British tennis was 10-15 years ago.
On to the round 2 matches where 4 Brits completed their matches.
Cameron Norrie (9) beats Jaume Munar in 5 sets 6-4 3-6 5-7 6-0 6-2 It was a shock that Munar played so well and clearly surprised Cam too, in particular in the first 3.5 sets where Munar was playing like a top 10 player himself - where he was hitting 130mph serves and some impressive plays around the court. During the 4th set, Munar had the trainer on and clearly affected him in the final 2 sets.
Cam battled through and goes through to the 3rd round, equalling his result last year.
He next plays Steve Johnson in the 3rd round. On paper it's winnable but he has a good game on grass.
Emma Raducanu (10) lost to Caroline Garcia in 2 sets 6-3 6-3
Unfortunately it wasn't to be from Emma, who couldn't repeat her heroics from last year as she lost to the experienced Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia.
Caroline had a game plan and played Emma's game by taking an aggressive stance in her play. One thing I've noticed when watching her is how weak her service games are, it was noticeable in the US Open when she won but the same here. Definitely an area she can improve on as she was heavily exploited in that area. Also the lack of match time on court hasn't helped either.
Focus for her now is on the US hard court season and the defence of that title she won last year.
Andy Murray lost to John Isner (20) in 4 sets 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 Isner in the end was just too strong on his service games (firing off 36 aces) and was probably one of the best matches he's played at Wimbledon under the circumstances. Murray didn't play a bad game himself and really hinged on 1 or 2 points.
This is the first time Murray has not progressed to round 3 of Wimbledon. Fingers crossed he'll be back next year.
Ryan Peniston lost to Steve Johnson in 3 sets 6-3 6-2 6-4 Unfortunately for Peniston, he couldn't follow up on his impressive form coming into the match with a straights set loss. He's commented as this being the best 5 weeks of his tennis career and hope it continues.
Heather Watson also played today and is currently 1 set up against Qiang Wang. Will report the result tomorrow. This does mean Heather will have played in all 4 days of the tournament so far - potentially a 5th day in a row if she wins.

AndyM played well in defeat - just 1 or 2 points would have made a big difference in the match.
Norrie as usual was an enigma - I wuldn't have a lot of confidence in him winning his next match but hopefully will be proved wrong.

It just shows the impressive depth that exists in British tennis now that we've lost three of the four highest ranked British players (across the men's and women's) this week but there are still four British players through to Round 3 (so far).

And it's not just the singles either, there's a plethora of good doubles players too which includes the world #1 doubles player in Joe Salisbury.
You do sense the togetherness and the closeness the British players have. You had Jodie Burrage sat in Katie Boulter's corner today, which I found quite strange seeing. You had Katie Swan being the cheerleader on social media and the usual banter with Liam Broady. It's great to see.
I do remember the Henman/Rusedski days when it was almost a guarantee that the head of the LTA would be come on TV on the 2nd or 3rd day being criticised and giving all kinds of excuses, which thankfully has now changed for the better - thanks to the Roehampton facilities and the Murray family.

Onto the rest of the Round 2 singles matches
Day 4
Katie Boulter (WC) beats Karolina Pliskova (2) in 3 sets 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 After a nervy start from both players in the 1st set, which resulted in Katie getting an early break, before Pliskova showed why she's a former #1 and a finalist last year by serving a string of aces and comfortably took the first set. From the 2nd set tie break though, Pliskova started to make a few UE and the break at 4-4 in the final set was crucial for Katie to seal a memorable win on Centre Court.
She dedicated her win to her gran, who passed away recently and it was a touching interview. Glad for her to win after her injury troubles early in her career.
She next plays Serena Williams 1st round victor Harmony Tan in the 3rd round on Saturday.
Heather Watson beats Qiang Wang in 2 sets 7-5 6-4 This was carried over from yesterday and Heather just needed 1 game today to win her match today. Definitely a much improved player compared to her performances this time last year but she was very much helped by her opponent and dodgy forehand.
With Heather already played 4 days in a row, due to play be a 5th day in a row tomorrow and is participating in both doubles competitions. There could be some compromises in such a demanding schedule. She's already admitted that it's getting to her with having such little sleep last night.
In the singles though - she next plays Kaja Juvan in the 3rd round, who she lost to at the US Open first round in 2021. Heather will be the underdog this time as her ranking has considerably improved since the USO but Heather will be looking for revenge.
Liam Broady (WC) beats Diego Schwartzman (12) in 5 sets 6-2 4-6 0-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 Another 5 setter match but he gets his revenge against the 12th seed, who beat Liam in the 1st round last year in 4 sets. In the middle of the match, Schwartzman won 11 games in a row but Liam turned it around to win a memorable victory.
He next plays Alex de Minaur in the 3rd round, who defeated fellow Brit Jack Draper (see below)
Jack Draper lost to Alex de Minaur (19) in 4 sets 5-7 7-6 (7-0) 6-2 6-3 Firstly, I completely forgot Jack Draper did make his debut last year against Djokovic on Centre court. On to the match itself, Draper played great for the first 2 sets before fitness and de Minaur's vast experience soon took its toll.
I felt de Minaur read Jack's game and took control in the latter part of the match by playing some excellent tennis. I hope Jack does qualify for the US Open. On current ranking he should do but not sure if he has points to defend in the run up.
Harriet Dart lost to Jessica Pegula (8) in 3 sets 4-6 6-3 6-1 Harriet started off strongly winning the 1st set in fairly comfortable fashion but it was an error strewn match from then on, which was disappointing as she was able to get close to breaking Pegula's serve a number of times.
We should see her play at the US Open
Alastair Gray (WC) lost to Taylor Fritz (11) in 3 sets 6-3 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 An expected result but Gray had his chances. Invaluable Grand Slam experience gained nonetheless from Gray and hope to see him improved next year.
As said, 4 Brits in the 3rd round and a win away to go into the 2nd week for the 1st time and with that - to deal with the usual British media mob looking for sound bites.

To the 3rd round matches!
Day 5
Heather Watson beats Kaja Juvan in 2 sets 7-6 (8-6) 6-2 One of those matches you wondered if previous form would catch up with her, especially in the closing moments. Heather played an excellent game throughout and especially in the 2nd set, where at one point was 5-0 in the lead with 3 breaks of serve against her young Slovenian opponent.
Heather avenged her loss against Juvan in the US Open last year to win her first 3rd round match of any Grand Slam on her 43rd GS entry.
She next plays Jule Niemeier, the 97th ranked player, in the 4th round on Middle Sunday - who herself beat the #2 seed Anett Kontaveit earlier in the week.
Not long after the match, she was on court 18 playing in the 1st round Women's doubles with Harriet Dart and winning comfortably in 2 sets.
She'll still be busy on Saturday, as she has a 2nd round match to play in the women's doubles and then a 1st round match in the mixed doubles with Ken Skupski (who announced he will be retiring after this tournament). Tough cookie!
Cameron Norrie (9) beats Steve Johnson in 3 sets 6-4 6-1 6-0 A comfortable win for Cam in comparison to his first 2 matches, mainly due to the collapse of his opponent's serve and the many unforced errors. It was a tight first set with Norrie not capitalising on ample break point opportunities but from then on, it was comfortable for him.
Similar to Heather, he (finally!) progresses to the 4th round in any slam for the 1st time.
He next plays 30th seed Tommy Paul on Sunday - another American who looks really comfortable on grass.
I like how he stays out of the media activities during this week, letting the likes of Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu take the chunk of airtime on Centre Court. May prove difficult from this weekend onwards.
Also on a side note, it's great to see Venus Williams back playing doubles with Jamie Murray and winning their match today. I don't think they'll get far in the tournament as Venus looked rusty out there but still a pleasure to watch.
Katie Boulter will the first match on Court 2 against Harmony Tan, whilst Liam Broady is the first match on Court 1 against Alex de Minaur. It must be strange for Katie cheering for the boyfriend but you want to cheer for your compatriot too.

Well that Kygrios Tsistipas was a match and a half - for the right reasons and for the wrong reasons... For the controversy issue, I would need to see more but at first glance, it's a difficult one as it doesn't look like it was malicious hit to the crowd. If he hit someone, then I would agree with Kygrios. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/tennis/62024478

And now to the rest of the 3rd round matches for the Brits
Day 6
Katie Boulter lost to Harmony Tan in 2 sets 6-1 6-1 The dream Wimbledon run ends for Katie, as she was comprehensively beaten by the Frenchwoman in 51 minutes. Harmony Tan played a really good game and was not missing many shots. Meanwhile Katie tried everything to break the rhythm but to no avail.
Katie admitted in her press conference she was emotionally and physically drained from everything that's happened to her over the past week but we can all say from a tennis point of view, it's been a really good week (and month) for her.
Liam Broady lost to Alex De Minaur in 3 sets 6-3 6-4 7-5 A match I didn't watch too much, as I was watching the Watson/Dart doubles match but from the outset, a result which didn't cause too much surprises in the end.
Ultimately the experience and play of De Minaur was the winner here, as Broady gave it his all but the previous 5 setters matches start to take its toll. He did break De Minaur at the end when De Minaur was serving out but it was all in vain.
In the doubles, still lot of Brits in the mens doubles competition with Jamie Murray, the Skupskis and Joe Salisbury safely making their way to round 3
In the womens doubles, only the partnership of Heather Watson/Harriet Dart made it through to 3rd round.
Norrie and Watson play their 1st ever 4th round match tomorrow - Heather 1st on centre court and Norrie 2nd on Court 1. Heather also withdrew from the mixed doubles today citing a foot injury but more likely to focus on the 2 competitions and to get some rest, as tomorrow will be 7th day in a row playing at Wimbledon.

Apparently because it didn't directly hit someone they couldn't disqualify Tsistipas, but I'm pretty sure it hits the wall behind him and then hits him on the head, so it's hit him? And then he whacked another ball later on which just hit the court walls and he gets one point taken off him? Those under knee serves though, oh my, so so sneaky, wonder how much he practices them! Djokovic wasn't malicious, but it hit an umpire/ball person and he was booted out?

Appasrently the crowds are down about 11% overall this year - I have noticed a lot of empty seats on the main courts too.
One way or another you can almost guarantee there will be controversy when Nick Kyrios plays.
Couldn't possibly predict how either Norrie or Watson will do today - they could easily could through in a blaze of glory or equally fall apart!

Djokovic wasn't malicious, but it hit an umpire/ball person and he was booted out? The Djokovic incident wasn't malicious and definitely wasn't intentional but he was unlucky to have hit the line judge in the throat when he just wanted to release some tension by smacking the ball into the back wall. Still a default as he hit an official.
I hated the underarm serve at first and it was Kygrios who introduced it. Now you've got a few players on tour using it now and it gives a different option to bring players to the net. Similar to the Mark Williams break off used in snooker.
This is where I find the issue difficult to judge to what was right or wrong. All I've seen is the slow motion replays which only showed the ball going in between people in the crowd so was hard to tell if it was intentional. Players hit the ball in the crowd after matches - should they be defaulted for that? A dodgy serve which goes into the crowd - should they be defaulted?
I think a warning to Tsisipas was a fair result. If anything, Kygrios should have been defaulted himself for the language he used. Not just the arguments he had with the umpire but you didn't need to be a good lip-reader to see what he was saying when the crowd was cheering.

After yesterday's match, Kygrios has been fined $4,000 for his potty mouth and Tsitsipas $10,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct
Kygrios was earlier fined from his 1st round match against Paul Jubb for something he did there. Proving to be quite an expensive tournament for Kygrios - all the more reason to win it...

Day 7
Cam Norrie (9) beat Tommy Paul (30) in 3 sets 6-4 7-5 6-4 A dominant but hard fought match for Cam to win against a tricky American opponent, who has proved his worth on grass, to reach his first ever Grand Slam final.
From the bits I saw, despite the scoreline, it was a tight match where there was a lot of deuce games and long rallies.
He next plays David Goffin on Tuesday, who himself went through a 4hr 30 min brutal 5 setter match against Frances Tiafoe.
Heather Watson lost to Jule Niemeier in 2 sets 6-2 6-4 This was Heather playing her 7th day in a row and it was a dominant performance by her young German opponent, who did not play according to her ranking.
Dominant serve and clever play from Niemeier and Heather tried to dominant points by coming into the net, however she was missing shots herself.
It's been refreshing to see Heather regain her past form, whether we'll see a repeat performance is difficult now that she's 30. I would like to see her do something about her wretched US Open record in the short term, where she has been knocked out of the 1st round since she started playing there.
She is still in the womens doubles with Harriet Dart and it will be an 8th day in a row playing, as she is playing first on court 3
In other doubles news, the comeback ends for Venus Williams in the mixed doubles as she and Jamie Murray were knocked out by another British pairing of Johnny O'Mara and Lissy Barnett in a really thrilling 3 set match 3-6 6-4 7-6 (18-16). It could have gone either way really but the British pairing won a crazy match tie-break in the final set.

Day 8
With Cam not playing until Tuesday, there were no Brits playing in the singles today.
There were plenty of Brits in action in the doubles - unfortunately not such a good day for them. I won't put the individual results here (more because I can't be bothered) but the likes of Jamie Murray, Neal Skupski and Ken Skupski (who played his last match before retiring) have exited the Men's doubles.
In the men's doubles, Joe Salisbury is the only British representation with his doubles partner Rajeev Ram
No British representation in the womens doubles after a 3 set loss for Harriet Dart/Heather Watson today
Still some British interest in the Mixed doubles with Jonny O'Mara/Lissey Barnett playing tomorrow and current Wimbledon champions Neal Skupski/Desirae Krawczyk also playing tomorrow

Cam Norrie (2nd match of course) oN Court 1 today.
Always worry when the Brits are playing a match they're more than capable of winning.
The nauseous British Press are at it again now digging up the "dirt" on his college days who cares?

The nauseous British Press are at it again now digging up the "dirt" on his college days who cares? I saw that in the news yesterday but sadly it's expected now another player has got a bit of success.
From that perspective, it's lucky Liam Broady or Dan Evans didn't make it to this stage. I'm sure the press would have a field day should they ever make it to a 2nd week in a slam.

Day 9
Cam Norrie (9) beats David Goffin in 5 sets 3-6 7-5 2-6 6-3 7-5 A closely fought battle from a experienced player who has gone deep into slams before. On paper, the odds favoured Norrie to win with a higher ranking, Goffin spent over 4hrs in his previous match and the advantage of a home crowd to call on.
The first 3 sets - Norrie played dreadfully and Goffin was dictating the match. The final 2 sets completely flipped on its head with Norrie controlling the match, although he could only break Goffin late on in the 5th set.
Great to see his reaction at the end of the match just to experience that noise from the crowd.
He'll next play in his first Grand Slam semi final - the defending champ Novak Djokovic on Thursday Friday.
In doubles news - Neal Skupski/Desirae Krawczyk won their QF match in the mixed doubles and will play the 6th seeds Pavic/Mirza tomorrow. Neal is the only British representative in the mixed after Jonny O'Mara/Lissey Barnett lost their match in straight sets today.
Joe Salisbury / Rajeev Ram will play their QF mens doubles match tomorrow.

You can blame someone at the BBC for that, as I'm sure I heard someone say on TV he'll be "playing in 2 days time".
