Nilsson's cover of Badfinger gets him the highest entry this week. In the UK, American Pie got stuck behind this (and another song which is going to appear here soon). Now it's the job of Nilsson to try to finally remove Don McLean from the top where he has been for 6 weeks.
Shirley Bassey gets her Bond theme into the chart, the second time she'd done that with "Goldfinger" having also previously been a hit for her. The Pioneers follow up "Let Your Yeah Be Yeah" and Barry Ryan gets another hit. (After Eloise we sort of forget what else he did).
The band that enters below that are doing so 10 years before their big hit that made them well known, but actually they've already been around 3-4 years in January 1972. Named after Jerome Geils, who is a member of the band but not the lead singer. He goes under the name of Peter Wolf but his real name is Pete Blankfield.
