78 Drop Nineteens - Delaware
In 1992 the US got in on the act with shoegaze with the brilliant Drop Nineteens. They may have past me buyt if it wasn't for the fact their debut single was called 'Winona'. How could I ignore a band that names a single after the gorgeous Winona Ryder. They weren't around very long maybe as they joined the scene quite late but that still doesn't avoid the fact that this is one of the best shoegaze albums ever. It did not chart but 'Winona' would be a MTV2 song for many years.

77 Faithless - ReverenceTrance and progressive house tended to be quite a faceless genre until Faithless came along. They blended those genres with world music, jazz and soul and created a classic dance album. So many things to love about them, is it the production of Sister Bliss and Rollo or the voice of Maxi Jazz. They were so much more than the sum of their parts and a brilliant live band as well. There is so much more to this record than 'Insomnia' but when you have written one of the top 10 dance anthems ever you cannot be blamed for only being remembered for it. It was not a big album straight away only reaching #26 in the Uk in 1996. Lets have something different from them, this pop-soul track is gorgeous. Is that Ewan Macgregor in the video?? <iframe width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 10.600000000000023px; height: 6.899999999999977px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 5px; top: 165px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_39334267" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 473px; top: 165px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_48743355" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 5px; top: 452px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_17781963" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977" style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 473px; top: 452px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_3163318" scrolling="no"></iframe>

76 Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix
Teenage Fanclub have been getting bigger and bigger and with their 5th album they score their first top 10 hit. This album has many of their most memorable songs and biggest hits and is probably the easiest album for a non fan to get into as it is quite Brit Pop. It is still my 2nd favourite though. Liam Gallagher even said Teeange Fanclub were the 2nd best album in the world after this album, after Oasis of course. Great mix of slow Neil Young type songs and indie floorfillers it reached #7 in 1995.

75 Prodigy – The Fat Of The Land
Another classic dance album with not a single weak tracks on it, a brilliant listen all the way through, I actually prefer many of the instrumentals to the more obvious Keith Flint songs as they have such a great feel but they are all good. Not much more to say about this as we have all been talking about it the past few months sadly. It reached #1 in the US & UK in 1997.

74 Kula Shaker - K
Controversial and not sure if anyone expected to see this so high but the fact it was not anywhere in the top 400 so far meant it must be coming. Yes this is above 'Whats the Story; and 'Ok Computer' what is wrong with me?? Well I loved them from the first song I heard, I never thought they were corny or anything. 'K' is simply one of the best Brit Pop albums and that's it. It's blend of classic rock with a Indian and psychedelia influence was just made them standout from the rest of the Brit Pop also rans. I know Razzle Dazzle you are a fan but I pretty much drifted away from them after the first single on the 2nd album. But we are not talking about that 'K' reached #1 in 1996 in the UK.

73 Super Furry Animals - Fuzzy Logic
More psychedelic Brit Pop from the Furries debut album. Again like Kula Shaker they were just something different from the rest, from the chilled out hippy sound of 'Hometown Unicorn' to the maniacal 'God Show Me Magic' they were just an exciting and weird band to listen to. The album reached #23 in 1996 in the UK.

72 The Audience – The Audience
The Brit Pop from 1996 continues this time with the band that Sophie Ellis Bextor started with. I was captivated with her voice from the first time I heard her. The blend of 60s pop with Smith style indie was just totally up my street. I woudl say her debut single woudl be in my top 20 songs of the 90s and the album is just amazing, with so many hits and great tunes. Why didn't she stick with this sound instead of becoming a dance diva The album reached #22 in the UK.

Yeah I'm a big fan of Kula Shaker, I own all of their albums but K is a masterpiece that's hard to top, I can see why people might think they are overly cheesy but like you I thought they wee great and added colour to the Britpop scene at a time it was all becoming a bit lads lads lads, booze, fags and tracky bottoms. Crispian Mills even collaborated on one of the best album tracks on Fat of The Land in Narayan, another great album I see you have at #75

71 Levellers - The Levellers
Really not much between this album and 'Levelling The Land' but their 2nd album just edges it for me. I really just loved everything they did at this time and they were such a great live band. And although the followup album to this gave them their first number one, it didn't make my shortlist. The album reached #2 in the UK and spawned to #12 hit singles in 1993.

70 Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
My favourite Pavement album and their biggest hit in the UK. While reacting against grunge they inadvertently made a grunge pop anthem with the single 'Cut Your Hair' which was actually an anti-grunge song hehe. This album has all their best songs and has such a great feel, they were never more complete than on this record. Still very underground in the US, they were chart stars here and the album reached #15 in 1994.

69 James - Seven
One of my most played CDs ever basically as I just got a new Hi-fi with a CD player and this was one of my first CD albums. I tended to still buy vinyl and cassette but to 1992. Also I was very much a James fan at this time owning around 4 James T-shirts hehe The baggy sound has been dropped and they are now a more anthemic potential stadium band; almost Simple Minds-like at times on this album. We still have one album to come from them of course, this reached #2 in UK in 1992.

68 Black Grape - Its Great When Youre Straight Yeh
This was a record that nobody expected. We though Shaun Ryder et all were finished and then we heard 'Reverend Black Grape' and they were completely exciting and fresh again. I cant think of many bands or albums that had three brilliant singles in a row out of nowhere. Kermit of Ruthless Rap Assassins just gave the Happy Mondays crew that something they needed to be relevant again. This whole labum is a lot of fun and the public agreed sending it to #1 in the Uk in 1995.

67 Energy Orchard – Energy Orchard
One of the oldest records on the list and another band from Ireland who failed to crossover to mainstream success in the Uk. With a slightly Celtic sound and very political songs they were one of the best new bands of 1990 and they came close with 'Belfast' which reached #52. The album didnt do any better and reached #53 in the UK.

66 Travis – The Man Who
A few years later and Travis are pedally pretty much the same sound and have huge success, its all timing. Travis took a lot of criticism as a watered down Radiohead but they knew there way round a hook and this album is full of great indie pop and ballads. You just could not avoid Travis in 1999. 'The Man Who' sold 3.5 million copies worldwide and 'Writing To Reach You' was my number one song of 1999. The album was a Uk number one of course as well.

65 No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
Now something a bit different but thanks to MTV2 you could not ignore this band. I always liked a bit of ska and the Gwen Stefani just made it cool again and then all of a sudden they released the ballad of the year. It must have been on every video channel 50 times a day. It is another song of the year as this topped my year end chart in 1996, yes it wasn't all Brit Pop. We will hear more from them on the 00s list. The album was a US number 1 and UK #3.

64 The Lemonheads - Come On Feel The Lemonheads
Consolidating the success for their previous album 'It's A Shame About Ray' , its more off the same on their 6th album. It may not have been as big a seller as that record but it did give them their biggest hit in the Uk & US. Sadly Lemonheads never managed to make anything half as good as these two albums again, although his recent tracks were alright. This album comes very close to the brilliance of the previous album though and although it doesn't quite have the same magic and familiarity as that record for me, it is still really good. Again helped out by the amazing Juliana Hatfield. It reached #5 in the UK and #56 in the US in 1993.

63 Supergrass - I Should Coco
You can have your Blur, Oasis or Pulp but for me nothing is more Brit Pop than this album. It is just so fresh and full of energy and there isn't a bad song on the album, even many of the album tracks are super catchy like 'Strange Ones'. The only song I cant listen to is 'Alright' it really was overplayed so much. The album reached #1 in the UK in 1995. Lets have something dark from it.

62 The Levellers - Levelling The Land
The Levellers 2nd album and the record that broke them through to the mainstream, thanks mostly to a string of brilliant festival shows. 'One Way' became an anthem for the crusty scene which was popular at the time. This is just a brilliant album all the way through as well and I still really enjoy listening to it. I have a chance to catch them live again and I am very tempted. The album reached #14 in the UK in 1991.

61 Bluetones - Expecting To Fly
I still don't know what I loved about The Bluetones at the time. They didn't do anything widely different from anyone else but those early singles were just so hooky. I guess its the fun of being with them from day one, and seeing 'Slight Return' becoming a massive hit when it was obscure the year before. Thats what I miss today the thrill of one of your bands getting a hit. This year I have had to settle from Catfish's first top 40, Chvrches in the top 10 with a collab and Bring Me The Horizon at number one, but otherwise its been slim pickings. Anyway just a jolly Brit Pop album that wont change the world, it reached #1 in the Uk in 1996.

60 Daft Punk - Homework
Yes still some dance records on this list. Getting into Daft Punk was just unavoidable. The brilliant video with the dog in New York was on MTV2 every 5 minutes. Daft Punk were retro and the future at the same time and I played this album to death. It has barely dated either and if you are having a party stick thsi on, ho needs a Spotify playlist!! It reached #8 in 1997. Aww its such a sad video..
