England have a good balance in the batting now Sibley who will spend time at the crease the explosive players in the middle order Stokes and butler and the young lad pope who looks like a top player have never been fussed on Joe denly to be honest think we could find someone much better to bat at 3.I think regarding the bowling attack will be a massive test when broad and Anderson finish we have archer and wood but not sure they will both play in the team at the same time don't think leach is the long term answer to be Englands top spinner can see Parkinson or Bess taking that role.

England in complete control of the final test as they close in on a series victory. 400 all out after a 10th wicket stand of 82 between Wood and Broad, South Africa 88-6 at the close.

England wrapped up another comfortable win with a day to spare to take the series 3-1. It's England's first test series victory (not including the one-off test against Ireland last summer) since winning 3-0 in Sri Lanka in 2018, which is also where England go next for a 2-test series in March.

It was a good series with bat and ball. Many of the new and less experienced players did well, away from the intense scrutiny that comes with home Tests, and, especially, Ashes games.
If they cane leave Sri Lanka with a 2-0, 1-0 or 1-1 result, then the management team should consider that they have had a productive winter.

Forgot to mention Bangladesh won the Under 19 World Cup earlier this month, adding further weight to the claim I made last year that they could be major contenders at the next World Cup. Meanwhile, the women's T20 World Cup gets underway in Australia on Friday. The Aussies are defending the title they won two years ago. 10 teams are taking part with Thailand making their debut after finishing as runners-up in the qualifying tournament behind Bangladesh. There are two groups of five teams, with the top two in each group progressing to the semi-finals. GROUP A Australia India New Zealand Sri Lanka Bangladesh GROUP B England South Africa West Indies Pakistan Thailand England's form has been very patchy (they were smashed by Sri Lanka in a warm-up game today) and I think it would be a big surprise if they won the tournament. They should have a good chance of reaching the semi-finals but I wouldn't fancy them to beat Australia or India.

England are through to the semi-finals of the Women's World T20 after winning 3 group games in a row to qualify. After a poor batting performance saw them lose their opener against South Africa, they've played very well to earn comfortable wins over Thailand, Pakistan and the West Indies to guarantee a top 2 finish in the group. They will play either India or Australia in the semis on Thursday, depending on what South Africa (who have also qualified) do in their final group game.

England are out of the Women's T20 World Cup after their semi-final against India was washed out without a ball being bowled. With no reserve day, India progress to the final due to the fact they finished top of their group.
Australia beat South Africa in the other semi-final.

Cricket is back on Wednesday with England hosting the West Indies in a 3-Test series. The 1st Test is at the Rose Bowl with the 2nd and 3rd Tests at Old Trafford. The venues were chosen because they have on-site accommodation.
It's also been confirmed England will face Ireland in a 3-match ODI series at the end of this month, with all 3 games at The Rose Bowl. There will then be a series against Pakistan with the same two grounds being used.
Ben Stokes captains the Test side for the first time with Joe Root missing the 1st Test with his wife due to give birth.
Sky retains live coverage of England's Tests and ODIs but BBC takes over from Channel 5 in showing the highlights and will also have live coverage of two T20 matches.

I was due to go to Trent Bridge to watch England v Ireland in September. Sad that I won't, as cricket is a sport I enjoy live more than I do on television.
Will be interesting to see how Ben Stokes performs as captain. He's not someone who has ever seemed, to me, to possess much of a sporting intellect. Plenty of spirit, but not a tactical brain. But the decision has been made by people who actually know him, so clearly there is more up top than I have noticed. Regardless, I wish him luck.
When Channel 4, and later Channel 5, via Sunset + Vine, took over coverage of the cricket from the BBC, there was an immediate step-up in quality and insight. As much as anything, it is what converted Shirebloggess to becoming a cricket fan, and my enthusiastic companion at international matches. I hope the BBC will retain all that C4/C5 bought to the sport, and then find something to layer on top.

The West Indies players have recovered from Covid I hope? Who is vice captain, need someone strong alongside Stokes, may watch the highlights if we get some play. Always enjoyed the highlights on Channel 4/5 apart from the ads.

I'm assuming Buttler is vice-captain as he captained the other team in the intra-squad warm-up game, plus I think he's already the one-day vice-captain.
I'll see most of the day's play at work but I'll try and catch the highlights as I'm keen to see how the BBC coverage looks. I don't know if they're sticking with the same production team that did a very good job with the Channel 4/5 coverage.

England all out for 204. 6 wickets for Holder, 4 for Gabriel. Stokes top scored with 43. England were 87-5 but recovered to 154-6 with a partnership between Stokes and Buttler. England then fell to 174-9 before Bess and Anderson put on 30 for the 10th wicket.

Our batting looks so weak, and if our bowling isn't up to scratch, then the only way is down, aren't the west indies supposed to be not very good? Umpires didn't have a good day either, thank god for reviews for the Windies!

Windies all out for 318, a lead of 114. England's plan to go with out and out pace through Archer and Wood hasn't worked so far, with just one wicket between them (and that was the no.11 Gabriel).

This is the best west indies bowling attack I've seen in years it's decent but we should still be beating them.

West Indies still favourites after a late England collapse sees them finish on 284-8, a lead of 170.
I've felt throughout the match that England would have a decent chance if the Windies were chasing 200+ in the 4th innings. They might fall just short of setting that target but it should still be an interesting final day.
