Group D: England finish with a 100% record in a World Cup group for the first time ever without ever really hitting top gear. Japan were much better than the 2-0 scoreline suggests. Scotland are out after blowing a 3-0 lead against Argentina. Argentina were awarded a last-minute penalty while Scotland were in the middle of a double substitution. It was saved by Lee Alexander but then ordered to be re-taken because she was in front of the line when the ball was kicked. The penalty was scored at the 2nd attempt. The North Korean referee then blew for full-time after 95 minutes, having signalled 4 minutes of stoppage time, even though the whole penalty drama took at least 5 minutes. This is the first time that England have won a Women's World Cup match by more than 1 goal since their win over Japan in the group stage of the 2011 tournament (the tournament that Japan went on to win), which was also a 2-0 win with the first goal being scored by Ellen White at around the quarter-hour mark. Argentina can still qualify, but only if both Cameroon vs New Zealand and Thailand vs Chile finish as draws. If this happens, then England will play China in the Round of 16. If one of the 3rd-place teams in Groups E and F gets through, then they will play England in the Round of 16. If both get through, it will be the Group F team whom England will face. And Scotland have kept alive their record of never reaching the knockout stage of a Football World Cup (either men's or women's).

Group E: Cameroon scored a stunning 95th-minute winner to beat New Zealand and clinch a place in the last 16. They led with 10 minutes to go but an own goal gave New Zealand hope. A winner for either team was guaranteed to send them through as one of the best 3rd place teams: Cameroon on goals scored, New Zealand on disciplinary record, but just as it seemed as though both teams were heading out, Ajara Nchout twisted and turned her way through the defence and curled the ball into the bottom corner. Cameroon will play England unless Chile beat Thailand by 3 goals or more tonight. European champions Holland beat Canada 2-1 to finish top of the group and will play Japan. Canada will face either Sweden or the USA. Pos | Team | Pld | GD | Pts | Q | | 3 | +4 | 9 | Q | | 3 | +2 | 6 | Q | | 3 | -2 | 3 | 4 | | 3 | -4 | 0 |
