I guess charting just outside the Top 40 shouldn’t be sniffed at, but this got huge MTV play at the time and would have been positive it would have done much better.
Cracker - Low
Im not a big rock fan, so hope this is the type of thing you’re after?

Anything by They Might Be Giants is probably a good shout, Istanbul only peaked at #61 and was another one that later got considerable airplay on MTV, but I'm going for their 1998 song, I'm a sucker for any song about a worm learning to play the drums

They did manage three Top 75 singles from their first album (albeit at #63, #65 and #71) but this, to me their best song, only got to #78.

Lets have a couple more, they were a real T-shirt Skater band but was really sure that this song was going to bring them mainstream success.

I absolutely loved this single, it was played a lot on MTV2 but they disappeared as fast as they came. Think Janes Addiction meets Babylon Zoo

Ana Ng and Statue Got Me High are highlights for me in their back cat, outside the obvs. I was tempted to post this (so will anyway), but reckon is a bit more pop punk, but nevertheless fab. They’re like the Japanese version of the Pipettes.
Mercury, Penis, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars.
Anyway, here’s a little bit of Lita Ford.

I would've put money on TheThorne being the first person to post a Lita Ford song, I was going to post Shot of Poison from 1991 that peaked at #63

I have always been a bit of a Journey fan but I discovered this song which passed me by, while waiting for The Night Game to come on stage. It was one of those magical moments were the crowd were teleported back to the 80s like we were all hearing this for the first time. We were all asking each other what it was!! Journey - Send Her My Love US #23

Heart - If Looks Could Kill
Got a bit missed when the Bad Animals and Heart re-releases took place in 87 and 88, but was my favourite of all the single releases. But then they had lots of great songs to choose from.

"Close My Eyes Forever" with Ozzy Osborne was pretty fine too....

The whole of this EP by S*M*A*S*H* was great, though.
The lead track takes its name from an essay (reproduced on the sleeve of the EP) by Germaine Greer
