Feel a bit cheeky voting in this having missed the rest of the competition, but oh well. 'Tis done.

So pleased it won, obviously also love sittin on the dock of the bay, but that wasn't in the final two, so... Well the Animals margin of victory in the final was greater than their victory in the Semi Final & Quarter Final against Otis Redding & Jackie Wilson. So it does suggest Otis Redding could & would of defeated either of the other two Motown Semi Finalists.
It is perhaps worth noting that in the 2020 Guardian music critics 100 Greatest UK #1 singles (max 1 song per act) that the Animals failed to make the top 100!
UK #1 Tracks which made it (& therefore from the 1960s & before deemed superior to the Animals) were:
100 Bill Haley and His Comets – Rock Around the Clock (1955) 96 Roy Orbison – It’s Over (1964) 93 Del Shannon – Runaway (1961) 92 Nancy Sinatra – These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ (1966)
86 The Tornados – Telstar (1962) 79 Jackie Trent – Where Are You Now (My Love) (1965) 78 Thunderclap Newman – Something in the Air (1969) 75 Procol Harum – A Whiter Shade of Pale (1967) 62 Elvis Presley – Jailhouse Rock (1958) 59 The Walker Brothers – Make It Easy on Yourself (1965)
40 The Four Tops – Reach Out (I’ll Be There) (1966) 33 Tom Jones – It’s Not Unusual (1965) 28 The Kinks – You Really Got Me (1964) 26 The Rolling Stones – (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction (1965) 15 Jerry Lee Lewis – Great Balls of Fire (1957) 11 The Beach Boys – Good Vibrations (1966) 10 Marvin Gaye – Heard It Through the Grapevine (1968) 3 The Beatles – She Loves You (1963)

Both are great songs but that is a really worthy winner - and after it beat 'Dock of the bay' I felt it had to win.. although the Four Tops beat some absolute all-time classics along the way like 'A whiter shade of pale' and 'I say a little prayer'.

Sorry, I forgot to say thank you raliverpool for another great contest. One hell of a lot of work must go into preparing these, and they are great fun to participate in.

Can't complain, as I like both songs a lot. On balance I think the Animals just shade it.

Yep agreed. raliverpool, you put a huge amount of effort in to just listing all the songs in the first place, never mind running it for 6 months. You must enjoy doing this to give yourself so much work.

So many tremendous songs from the decade, it is hard to know which is the best. But this series has certainly helped. A brilliant winner, a brilliant runner-up, brilliant semi-finalists... Thank you very much raliverpool for all the effort that has gone into this.

I went with the Four Tops, but expected the Animals to win ~ any one of the four semi-finalists would have been a worthy winner, though personally I would have voted for Otis.
Thanks for organising, raliverpool ~ really looking forward to the 1970s!

Possibly but there were 3 and 4 more votes respectively cast in the final than the semis and quarters so not necessarily.
Greendemon e.g.has said she voted Animals but didn't vote previously.

Although not among my favourite Tops' songs I voted for Reach Out as I preferred it to House. Kudos to raliverpool for a superb contest. The amount of work which must have gone into this is mind-boggling.

I have to say if I'd voted in the semi I'd have put House through over SOTDOTB.
