Good Afternoon All And here they are, so time to get thinking caps on.... The Categories: Disco - Anything from the 70's that would fit into the Disco genre. Don't mind early 80's too! The 80's - Anything from electro, house, Italo disco, as long as it was released between 80-89. The 90's - From Eurodance, rave, speed garage - whatever floats your boat - as long as it's a dance song from the 90's The Instrumental - All beats, no words. The Remix - Can be literally any song, as long as it's a Dance remix. Now yours chance to use that Basshunter remix of Napalm Death that you have been saving up. David Guetta vs Calvin Harris vs Tiesto - The three heavyweights of Dance. Any tracks recorded or remixed by any of these three DJ's. Or even a David Guetta vs Tiesto song remixed by Calvin Harris if one exists! The Alternative and The Unknown - The uncharted side of Dance in the slightly more alternative genres. When I mean uncharted, I literally mean no hits please! Rent A Rapper - A song from a Dance rap act, or a dance song with a featured rap element. The 2000's - Plenty to choose from in this category - tropical house, grime, dubstep - anything from 2000 to right this very minute. Club Anthems - Can be from any decade, dance genre, but lets make it the biggest Dance Anthem to round the contest off with. I will keep the original opening thread open until the 18th January for any more entrants, and then over to you to PM me your choices. Looking to start the contest on the week of the 2nd February. Many thanks for your participation, and have fun. Smurf

And now the small print.
Dance Idol 2020 rules:
I am sure you know all this already, but just in case.....
I will be using the same methodology as Smokeyb and using the grid method for selection so that each contestant gets priority in at least one of their years, and will be randomly allocated to group A or Group B and then a position of A1 to A10, then B1 to B20. This method worked well in the last contest, so I am wholly pinching this for this contest also.
It would be preferential if you could send me at least three songs and let me know the order of preference, so that I have back up songs for you - before the contest starts I will let you know which of your entrants you have (hopefully all of your first choices), but in the rare event I need a spare I will message you by PM.
I believe Smokeyb mentioned in his Time Machine write up, but if you could send me YouTube links, this would be extremely helpful and very much a time saver for me. To obtain this, rather than send me the direct URL, please send me the share link underneath the video as this is the link that is compatible with the forum, or when you want to embed a video. If you could send this for me, I would be very grateful, plus also, especially with Dance tracks there are many variations of the song with remixes/re-records etc that I don't want to end up posting the wrong one for you.
The rules are simple, I post the entrants and you vote in the tried and tested good old Eurovision style by PM, and the songs are scored accordingly so that everyone receives points. Other than the theme rounds - there are no other gimmicks/twists/anything else that makes it over complicated.
I am sure if you are on holiday during the contest you will let me know in advance so I can make other arrangements, but if you do participate and don't vote your song will be open to a penalty deduction.
The only other proviso, as the name suggests, this contest is for songs that would fall into the dance category. If you are unsure whether it fits the criteria, please check with Wikipedia or with me. So just because you can dance in your kitchen to Oasis, doesn't mean it's a Dance record!
Whilst you are in the forum take a look around for some inspiration!
Any questions, let me know.

The Alternative and The Unknown What is a hit? Top 40? Top 75? and do you mean no hits at all from that act? Sorry for not expanding - I would say the entrant hadn’t had a Top 100 hit. I wanted this to be the more obscure the better so that it wasn’t a well known dance song/act at all to open up the field for other players to hear something from an artist they have not heard of before. Don’t mind which decade.

Just the UK TheThorne would be fair - I won’t know who has a hit elsewhere in the world on some of them!

Ooh, time to get thinking!
Might struggle with a couple so glad we've got plenty of time to figure it out.

BTW - if anyone is game for a Predicta running along side, please let me know. I won’t be able to do both this contest so volunteers are welcomed - I have essential Boggle coming up too!

Ok well I have 30 songs but since everyone gets a chance to get their top choices, no rush and to be honest I doubt I will have many doubles. Sent no doubt I will regret it but I love my first and second choices some of my 3rds are a bit iffy though

How can you have 30 songs already, think I have 10! Ok after 30 mins research, I have a LOT more. With the last round being the Big Guns round, it might be best if you could somehow block some of the bigger songs in the earlier rounds, or if we could all pick a big song for the last round and work backwards maybe? My only grumble would be that so many good songs fall into the hole of 2000-2017 I find

My only grumble would be that so many good songs fall into the hole of 2000-2017 I find I chose the last round as a free for all round to give anyone chance that it would be a fall between the cracks of other categories who had a great/brilliant entrant to choose from between 2000 to 2017. Yes there are great Dance records from this time, but don’t want to spoil different eras if there is a second round for 2021 and the new host wants to change. Remember this is a new contest and a trial go. There is an overlap in the categories, however, that could encompass this time period.

I also avoided big dance songs from past comps but tried not to be too obscure, I'm quite happy. I won't win but it will be interesting.

Time to get my thinking cap on - the obscure round is going to be difficult. I will have a think today and try to come up with 3 for each category.
