I've been compiling this for the last few weeks and have decided to post it here (along with links to the videos).
1994 was a watershed year in terms of my taste in music as it was the year where I started to move away from dance/rap/pop towards indie/rock music (it's also the year I became a teenager, which may have been a factor!) and there are a number of songs in this list that were a key part of that.
I compiled the shortlist for this chart by going through the archive on the Official Charts website. There will have been some great music released that didn't chart but chances are I didn't hear them back then unless they got a brief play on The Chart Show. For the sake of authenticity, I've kept to songs I already knew rather than seek out unheard tracks. Whilst the list is based primarily on what I think of the songs now, the impact they had on me at the time is also a factor and the top end of the chart probably wouldn't look massively different if I'd compiled it then.
A slightly depressing stat is that 6 of the songs in the top 10 feature someone who is no longer with us (or in the case of Richey Edwards, missing presumed dead). I could put it down to my advancing years but I think it's fair to say all of those in question were gone too soon.
1993 was definitely not a standout year in music for me. I was 17 yrs old and at college. Indie music was everywhere, and you couldn't help but get swept up in it at that age. Even someone like me found myself buying Oasis albums, haha. Anyway from your list, I picked out my top picks.
