In what is surely the biggest loss from the sporting calendar announced so far, the EFL Trophy final has been postponed.

Meanwhile it seems that leagues at step 3 and below of the non-league pyramid have decided to end their respective seasons with immediate effect. A decision will now be made on whether to declare the seasons void or implement promotion and relegation on a points per game basis.

The FA have confirmed the season is at an end for leagues in the non-league pyramid from step 3 and lower and that all results will be expunged with no promotion/relegation taking place. No decision yet on the National League and step 2.

A lot of clubs will be unhappy at this decision, not least step 6 clubs Jersey Bulls and Vauxhall Motors, who had already clinched promotion.

Absolute joke imo, delay next season and get this season finished when we are able even if it’s behind closed doors! South Shields are really annoyed as well. I hear talk of top 2 up from national leagues and bottom two down, that would be better than voiding it all.

I hear talk of top 2 up from national leagues and bottom two down, that would be better than voiding it all. I think the big issue of trying to finish the non-league season would've been many clubs' ability to pay their players beyond the scheduled end to the season when they have no income (plus the tricky situation of players out of contract). At non-league level, it had to be points per game or void as trying to finish the season later in the year simply wasn't viable. It's particularly tough on several north east clubs. South Shields would've been promoted to step 2. Stockton Town would've gone up to step 4. Redcar Athletic and Billingham Synthonia were looking good to go up to step 5. Plus Marske would've been in the playoffs at step 4, though points per game would've left us 4th in the table.

Then do points per game if finances are a problem, voiding a season this late just seems bonkers!

South Shields way out at the top of the Northern Premier Division are talking Legal Action.

South Shields way out at the top of the Northern Premier Division are talking Legal Action. And they're one of the few non-league clubs that can afford it. They're absolutely loaded. I wouldn't be confident of them getting anywhere though.

What are the chances of the FA declaring the same for the Football League..?
Very tough on Jersey who have the best record in England this season.
Pos Team Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts 1 Jersey Bulls (P) 27 27 0 0 99 7 +92 81
And if they can do that to a team who have played 75% of their games and are already promoted with a 20 Pts lead with 9 games to play .... then I don't like the precedent this is taking if you apply that up the football pyramid.
And what good does it achieve if come October and next season has not started due to Covid-19, with no immediate chances of it starting ....

They could award the trophy to the team at the top of each division and relegate the bottom team only, the second bottom and second top from the division below could play a one off decider to see who stays up or gets promoted. Not ideal, but at least it would get the season completed, with just a handful of games.

I hear talk of top 2 up from national leagues and bottom two down, that would be better than voiding it all. Absolutely spot on. Have already had a bit of a rant about this to a few people. If they are going to cancel a season make it one that hasn't started yet rather one that's about 75% completed! Basically the Fa saying thanks for all your efforts this season but they count for absolutely nothing. Also, can imagine conversations in future years with fans of clubs who have had successful seasons. "Remember that game where we beat our local rivals where great football was played". Other fan says, "vaguely, I'll just look it up, might jog my memory. I've just looked it up but there isn't anything". First fan says, "Oh, must have dreamt it then". Interesting about the National leagues, will try and get non league paper on Sunday to see what they make of it all.

There's no guarantee at all that the new season will be able to start in August. To annul 2019/20 now is a ridiculously premature reaction.
If the virus continues to endure for much of the rest of this year, it would be far better for all concerned to have one extended 2019/20/21 season.
If I'm being unduly pessimistic, and everything is able to start up in September / October, then complete the 2019/20 season by the end of December. And then have a mini 2021/21 season. Play everyone in your league once, and play a full FA Cup from first qualifying round, on a compressed midweek schedule. And play a Champions League from the Quarter-Finals stage only, with the champions only from the 7 highest ranked nations, plus the 2019/20 winner.

The Tokyo Olympics will now take place next year from 21 July-8 August, with the Paralympics starting on 24 August. They will still be referred to as 'Tokyo 2020'.
As a result, the 2021 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon have been moved back to 2022, though the dates haven't been set. If they keep the same dates as originally scheduled, it will clash with the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

No surprise about Wimbledon. Hopefully the French Open gets cancelled as well as rescheduling it for straight after the US Open with no clay warm up seems madness to me, and I think there have been complaints. Looks like a kneejerk decision now.
