TONY'S ALBUMS CHART: 28th MARCH 2020
UKMix thread for links and video embeds - Hits chart includedTop 3 are all early or unannounced releases due to coronavirus.
1 NE The Birthday Massacre - Diamonds
On YouTube and Bandcamp from Monday as a gift to fans and also because they "neeeded to ship the CDs out before Pennsylvania shut down" (CDs started shipping later in the week but before 27th due date). This resulted in a #35 download position on OCC and the YouTube stream seems to have had a knock-on effect on iTunes as it roared up to a lifetime peak.
Musically it's the synth/rock mix they're known for. Highlights: Flashback, Crush, Parallel World. I'll post individual tracks from next week.
2 NE Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts V: Together
3 NE Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts VI: Locusts
Released on YouTube (combined playlist is linked) and free download midweek (before general release on 27th) this surprise double helping of their instrumental series are great mood music for the times. V is hopeful, VI is anxious.
4 NE Spray - Living In Neon
1/2 of Cuban Boys (1 of whom is a girl!). I never liked any of the recent Spray vids posted on Autobahn's channel so i never bothered listening to their albums. Well, this 2002 release is a great set of intelligent trash-pop and i'm a bit dismayed it's taken me 18 years to hear it (to be fair, they never had much publicity and the deluxe volume linked is from 2017). I Am Gothic was a cult anthem in the US and is reworked as the kinder We Are Gothic on the deluxe (post Sophie Lancaster murder). Both versions are posted here from YT. I now understand the recent We Are Gothic vid - didn't know I Am Gothic before.
5 1 Best Coast - Always Tomorrow (5 weeks; peak #1)
6 NE Spray - Children Of A Laser God
2007 - again in deluxe form.
7 NE Baxter Dury - The Night Chancers
8 NE Adamski - Revolt
A 20 track set inspired by waltz music - not all of it works but the stuff that does is a real surprise. Features David McAlmont, Asia Argento, Lee "Scratch" Perry. From 2015 and 1 of a bunch of his charting.
9 NE The Weeknd - After Hours
10 NE Childish Gambino - 3.15.20
11 NE The Slow Readers Club - The Joy Of The Return
