Just been making a new expanded 90s playlist and I came across this song in the OCC chart. It reached #1 in my chart and I have the 7" but I completely forget it as it isn't on Spotify or mp3. Like a more pop Pavement, this is a total banger, it reached #51 in the charts in 1996.

Certainly forgotten, I have a bad habit of if its not on Spotify I don't bother listening to songs unless they are already in my mp3 collection

Waste - Hang On
Got a lot of play from Mark & Lard on Radio 1 and that's about it.

Hillman Minx - I've Had Enough 🐰
Another one that Mark & Lard played a bit but it did also get an airing on The Chart Show.

Sidi Bou Said - Twilight Eyes
Loved this band and their first album - saw them a couple of times in concert. The YouTube video version is terrible quality, and unsurprisingly not on Spotify. Although Bang Bang Machine are, which I was pleasantly surprised to see earlier, so lined up to listen to during the week. 🐥

yes Bang Bang machine topped The John Peel Festive 50 for 1992 so not surprising they have tried to make it available

Serum - Know How
They were attracting a lot of attention from record labels in 1999 and then went and released this single on which the only instrument is bass. Apparently they did record a more conventional version at some point but I've never heard it.

Astral - Come & Go
I know very little about this band but I loved the song at the time (1998). They might have been Scottish but I'm not sure.

Hot Boxing album is excellent. Lay It Down is by far their best song.

Puressence - This Feeling
A minor top 40 hit, reaching #33 in 1998 but it felt like it should have done a lot better. In fact, I'm pretty sure The Chart Show had it in the top 10 that week (it was often quite inaccurate during its last few years) so I'm not sure what went wrong there.

Hillman Minx - I've Had Enough 🐰 Depressingly, most of the stuff of which they'd had enough in nineteen ninety f***ing nine is still f***ing going strong today. Michael Jackson being an obvious exception.
Was thinking of entering Bang Bang Machine in a HIT. Utterly adore it.

Theaudience - If You Can't Do It When You're Young When Can You Do It?
The song that launched then-18-years-old Sophie Ellis-Bextor. It missed the top 40 but they did go on to have two top 40 hits, including the excellent 'A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed". However, it always seemed like she was bigger than the band itself and they split after one album.

Actually their debut was this and for me their best song, so dramatic and atmospheric. Like Suede meets Nancy Sinatra. The album is on Spotify now but not for that long. I saw them supporting The Sundays a brilliant gig!

Sophie was ridiculously bigger than the band. She had practically left it before she joined it!

God, she was so good then. As usual commercial success = much more dire output. Q.v. Boo Radleys. Hard to believe this was the band that did the appalling "Wake Up Boo".
