I was waiting for you to drag that out again... But its true; and every time the band is brought up on numerous music sites those two facts are brought up to condemn them; which is why most opened minded music fans don't like the band even though they made some quite good records because of those two examples of behaving like Grade A tosspots.
If they'd have done neither of those things I think they would have became much bigger & more popular than they actually did. In some respects you have to have some sympathy for them because their contrary who needs experts attitude before Brexit and Trump was visionary....
But ultimately they killed off a hell of a lot of good will their excellent Puzzle & Only Revolutions albums had given them as they were on the brink of replacing Muse as Britain's biggest "alternative/hard" rock act until those twin acts of self inflicted sabotage.
Nah don’t agree, as I said earlier they were one the last rock bands to still have hit records, and their last album was still a number one as well the next will be yes I know sales are terrible now but still. And of course they are headlining Big Weekend. They have had a very good run, 10 years since those ‘events’. But really to say they are less adventurous than Stereophonics was really just trying to stick the knife. Even their last record had more genre jumps than Stereophonics whole career. Oh and oddly I think ‘Only Revolutions’ is their worst record excepting the brilliant ‘Bubbles’ Now who is next biggest rock band in the UK , well whoever they are you won’t be hearing them on 6Music.. answer is Bring Me The Horizon btw

Let's not forget all the "old-school" fans who consider Puzzle and especially Only Revolutions to be them selling out, that the Many Of Horror moment exacerbated. I was on a few rock-oriented forums at that time, and for a lot of people Mountains was the moment they gave up on them.
(I don't share that opinion, Opposites is where they lost me.)

Yes but you always get that with rock bands, i think though the new record will be their best since ‘Puzzle’. And I never thought that after the first three songs of the last few albums . And yes I hated ‘When Worlds Collide’ thing as well, the name change was the worst. But bigger and better artists have had X Factor songs so really that’s no such a big deal. What doesn’t help the timing of this is, as I got trolled by 2 Biffy ‘fans’ last week on the new single promo on Facebook. Two hipsters trying to be edgy and sarcastic, but I feel are still dragging this 10 year old carcus like Raliverpool. So couldn’t resist the bait again.

Some weird red lines drawn in the sand here to define what makes a band good or bad
Personally if the song is good I like it if it's bad I dont like it
It doesn't matter if they sell out, if it's good I dont care
It doesn't matter if they release a bad album, that isn't a career ender, a career isnt all uphill or all downhill it's full of ups and downs and they can release a good song after a few dud albums
And I certainly dont dislike bands just because they said something I disagree with, hell they can w*nk off dogs with their lips for all I care, I listen to their music, I'm not going on a coffee date with them.

What about artists' political views? Or something else? Does it bother you or make you like them less if they have a different opinion on things? Just interested to know.

I just reread my post and it doesn't make the point I wanted to make at all - I was trying to say that a lot of the Biffy hate happened before the 6 Music and X Factor incidents, and it's probably people who already disliked them who jumped on those things.

It doesn't bother me, I dont go out of my way to read about their personal lives or read interviews so I rarely come across that kind of information to start with. I have no interest in what they say outside of music, I dont know the political beliefs of 99% of the bands I listen too and if I do its through the music, I just enjoy the music. I have been put off a few acts in the past ofcourse if they do things that are unspeakably evil but not just if they wear real fur or say they dont like something I like

I love loads of stuff by loads of the bands on this thread. I like the concept though, I’ve probably got loads of examples if I think about it. The one that occurred to me straight away was Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis, but she’s not a band. On paper everything about that record points towards it being awful, and yet it’s fantastic.
By the way, turns out there’s an Indie board. Heh, who knew?

Thought of a proper one! Misfit by Curiosity Killed The Cat.
Their smug yuppie soul usually left me cold, but that’s a great song.

Am I allowed 40 seconds of brilliance by a band for which everything else was dire ?
The first 40 seconds of "Too Shy" by KajaGooGoo is a superb piece of synth pop meets 80s funk. And then Limahl starts to sing, and the whole thing dissolves into horrid dishwater gloop. And from there, the rest of their career continued to hurtle downwards into the depths of festering corporate pop.

Oh I've just thought of one, but I don't know how to post videos on my phone.
'Tonight' by New Kids on the Block is a real guilty pleasure of mine, but I think everything else they did was awful.

Where Is The Love by the Black Eyed Peas. Brilliant song, I despise everything else I’ve ever heard by them.
