One of my older brothers was a massive Helen Shapiro fan and in the late 70s discoveered a whole batch of her records among others stored up in our attic.
Usually, once you're out of favour that's it and I thought many of her later singles were just as good as those that were hits.
Look Who It Is is great, I see you made it top 5 - it might have just made the bottom of the top 50.

It appears almost everyone fell out of favour once the Beatles arrived. Roy Orbison did well to have such a great year in 1964 but then faded too. Petula Clark also managed a couple of great songs (in particular Downtown and My Love).
One will look at Elvis Presley's 1964-68 years as generally a poor period for him but actually he did release a handful of great songs in those years too (Viva Las Vegas, Blue Christmas, Guitar Man) which may have been bigger hits for him in his more "popular" years.
"Queen For Tonight" is my favourite of Helen Shapiro's later singles, that one in 1963, #7 in my chart, compared to #19 for "Look Who It Is".

Yeah im finding a trend of good songs by artists that had hits just dropping down the chart, sometimes dropping out of the chart despite the quality being good still. I guess it was a crossroads for music with boy bands with guitars being the new in thing.
Trends and what the kids like have always impacted the charts heavily.

I think maybe 63/64 was a era where young people started having more of an interest in music, I cant believe some of the songs that dominated the charts in the early 60s were music teens loved and thought was cool. I bet sales were low before the Beetles, I've never looked into it but It wouldn't surprise me if sales went up due to the teeny bopper interest and pushed a lot of music by established artists that would've charted high in previous years down the charts
A lot like songs I like today missing the top 200 because the top 200 is the same 25 acts the kids love, the odd song that's a tick tock trend and Mr Brightside spending its 389th week in the chart lol
