43 Angel
One of the oldest shows just sneaking in as it started in 1999. Angel was the very brilliant spinoff from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Some of the best supporting cast from Buffy get to have their own TV show, more grownup, more scary and just more cool. I loved Buffy though and it would be in my top 20 shows of the 90s if I ever do that.
42 Timeless
There has been a couple of time travel shows already in this list and a few still to come which have time travel elements but the best time travel show of recent years is Timeless. Its hard to explain why, not as silly as Dr Who or LoT, not as depressing as 12 Monkeys or Contiumum. It just as brilliant characters and pathos not seen in a time travel show since Quantum Leap. The idea of a secret organisation changing time for their own ends is not a new story but this show manages to do it and still recreate the time periods very faithfully and with respect. It ended before its time fnarr fnarr

41 One Tree Hill
I never expected to love this show as much as I did. One of the best teen dramas ever, again brilliant characters, that you go from love to hate and vice versa and back again. Brilliant villains Dan Scott is just awesome. Brilliant music any show that can devote an episode to Jimmy Eat World or a love story with Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy is ok with me. The emo show of the 00s. Who is your favourite character well team Brooke of course!
40 Rectify
Now its a hidden gem time. Only screened on a pay walled channel on SKY and not any streaming service in the UK is this brilliant show from the Sundance channel in the US. Rectify is a show about a teenager who was imprisoned for murder who gets released 15 years later and goes back to his small home town. Every character in this show is amazing, you will be an emotional wreck after watching this for a few weeks. Is he innocent, was it a crime of passion, is he a psycho, you just need to watch and see if the answers ever come. What would you do, how would you feel if something similar happened in your neighbourhood!

39 Chuck
Now something more fun, this action comedy series was often the highlight of my week. I really don't want to spoil anything if you have never watched it. Its just a very fun, hilarious, spy series not much more to it than that. It has the kind of feel that we know taken for granted in Marvel movies but in 2007 there was nothing else like it. Also again another 00s show with a brilliant theme Cake - Short Skirt Long Jacket.
38 Jessica Jones
I was so looking forward to this show. First of all I absolutely love Kristen Ritter, she was ace in Breaking Bad but more so Jessica Jones, is just one of the coolest superheroes ever. She doesn't wear a suit, she drinks, she swears, she basically doesn't give a sh*t until she does. Kristen nailed her. Season 1 is one of the best Netflix shows ever with a brilliant villain, David Tennant. The later 2 seasons are a drop in quality but I still love her. Also if you are not a fan of superheroes like my wife you can still really enjoy Jessica Jones as its basically a supernatural detective series.

Haven't seen any of those. Incredibly I only saw Buffy for the first time last year! Liked it a lot. We haven't got around to watching Angel yet, in no small part because actually I didn't find the character terribly appealing in Buffy - Spike was much more interesting. Maybe I'll get around to it some day.

Ok 37 is so big, I'm pushing it up a few spots so the new 37
37 Prison Break
You often hear people saying that they don't make tv shows like we got when we were young A Team,Knight Rider, Magnum, Airwolf etc will these people have never watched Prison Break. It starts off as quite an emotional drama but as the shows and seasons go on, it gets more and more OTT. Let by the chemistry between the two leads or brothers, its the supporting cast that may this show so gun. A testing ground for any Tv actor wanting a career in villains, get a part in this show first. So after Season 1 or during Season 1 depending how high brow you are, leave your brain at the door and enjoy the ride.
36 Scorpion
Those same people haven't watched this show either. Scorpion is like a cross between Macgyver, Thunderbirds and Big Bang Theory. A team of highly functioning socially awkward geniuses working together to solve crimes, mysteries and disasters. It is total escapism and would have been the perfect Saturday afternoon teatime show. Its a bit of a hidden gem again but if you just want to chill, its a perfect show for that.

35 Mad Men
I will start of by saying I was not sold on this show from the start but Lynne loved it straight away but by season 2 I was looking up from my screen and actually getting into it. Sometimes not a lot happens and its hardly a thrill ride but the world and characters are just so perfect, you feel like you are there with them. Don Draper would be in the top 10 of many peoples coolest tv characters of the 21st century but as the seasons go on, more and more cracks begin to show in this perfect man's man. Think everyone has their own favourite characters, for me it was Roger, he is just the boss he wish you could be if you ever were in that position. He also has the share of the best moments and zingers.
34 Firefly
Now a show that might come near the top of many people's list. From the creator of Buffy, Josh Whedon comes this space western series about outlaws travelling the galaxy getting into all kinds of scrapes. A modern Blakes 7 maybe but with the frontier theme pushed to the max. Sadly it only got 1 season but at least it had a brilliant movie Serenity to help tie up some of the story but really it should have ran and ran. Another victim of the curse of Summer Glau. We tried watching it again with our son a few weeks ago but it has dated quite a bit sadly.

33 The Walking Dead
At the opposite extreme a show that is a victim of its own success, it is going on forever. It is a chore forcing yourself to watch the later seasons but those first 3 were just brilliant TV and it will be the best zombie Tv series ever. But in all that time, it has stayed faithful to its rules, nobody is safe, people are worse than zombies and there will never be a happy ending, it is just surviving. If you don't mind a bit of gore and you have never ever watched, give it a go, it might surprise you.
32 Westworld
Possibly the most beautiful show on the list and it just glues you to the screen in every moment. But it is very very confusing. Once you catch up and everything falls into place maybe near the start of season 3, you understand what a masterpiece this show is. Then once you get it, it messes you up all over again. Held together most strongly by the two female leads Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton and the unstable, imposing presence of the man in black Ed Harris. Once you get to the end of season 3 you realise it is a journey and everything had to happen the way it does.

31 Rick And Morty
By far the biggest animated show of the 21st century as South Park missed the cut by a couple of years. I was never going to watch this and I started watching it with my son and it is absolutely brilliant. Like a weird, perverted version of Back to The Future. Rick takes his grandson through different dimensions and worlds causing death and mayhem everywhere they go. Supported by his sister and his mum & dad Morty's family have great supporting episodes as well. Nothing is out of bounds but it stays in 15 certificate land and although you know nobody will ever stay dead, it can still get quite emotional especially when they birth new civilisations and destroy them within 1 episode, its a bit sad. But you will choke with laughter at least every 2nd episode. Written by the comedy master Dan Harmon, more from him to come. Here is some promos never seen these.

The first series of Prison Break is one of my favourite set of episodes of any TV show ever. I still enjoyed all of the other series, but it never quite lived up to the early days again.

Ooh, lots to discuss here. Prison Break - I agree with Whitneyfan: the first season was amazing but I found it difficult to stay interested for the rest of its run as the storylines got more and more outlandish. Mad Men - it had its ups and downs but ultimately this was an incredible show; well-written for the most part and just so beautifully put together. Would make my top 10 for sure. Firefly - WHAT IS THIS DOING SO LOW! I love Firefly. I actually don't love it as much as most people seem to - I think it owes its cult status to its unforgivably early cancellation - but it's a damn fine show with some of the most engaging characters I can recall in TV of the past two decades. The Walking Dead - I am way behind with this - I think the last season we saw in full was season 8. We started season 9 but ran out of steam pretty fast. It's just not entertaining any more. The characters seem to go around in circles, the minute anything gets resolved you just know it's going to come unstuck at some point Because Conflict, so there's little point getting invested. That said the first few seasons were brilliant. Westworld - Only seen season 1; we struggled with the pace a bit even though it's a cool concept. Maybe one to revisit when it's complete.

Well getting to Season 8 is still pretty impressive, I am half way through 10 but it has sat on the TIVO for 6 months, maybe not to keen on watching a show like that right now.

30 The Flash
Of all the shows that were starting in the 10s this is one that had me super excited as soon as I heard it was coming. The Flash is just awesome, ignore the terrible movies. Arrow was a brilliant show but season 1 was still very much grounded in reality, The Flash was more fantastical from the first 5 mins. Grant Gustin is a brilliant Flash, Cisco is the ultimate nerd friend we all wish we had, brains, quick wit and gets the hot girls as well. Caitlin is a bit wet at first but she becomes a great character and even Iris is ok at the start. But the real star is Wells. He is cunning, evil?, hilarious, cringey, caring, smart and at one point he is almost Rick from Rick and Morty, is mind is so important to the multi-verse, you never know what Wells you will get each season. There are brilliant seasons, and duffers but I will never stop watching it.
29 Ozark
Around this time everyone was looking for the next Breaking Bad, we had already found it in Justified but then that finished and we needed another one. Then Ozark appeared. We were not totally in at the start but the amazing scenery and the situations start tyyo grip us, then we got to know all the brilliant supporting cast and it became an essential show. Season 1 is a 9/10, Season 2 maybe a 7.5/10 but I thought Season 3 was the best yet. We can not wait to see where Marty and the gang go next.

28 The Big Bang Theory
For most of the 21st century this was the best US Sitcom on TV, it was then matched and then overtaken and now it ranks in 6th place in this list. This isn't really a show I need to talk about we have all watched it but long before the end it stopped being must see TV, in fact I feel bad for not including Young Sheldon as it is surpassed it certainly the last 4 seasons. But I loved it and still rewatch from time to time. It really deserves to be still in the top 30.
27 Justified
I just mentioned in this a couple of posts ago, a big city marshall is relocated back to his hometown as he is too much trouble. Wet hen get to meet a colourful mixture of rednecks, hicks, drugdealers, gang leaders and general misfits. He has to try and make a life and career in a place where is history and reputation make this very tough. Walter Goggins is in this as well and he is such a charming, crazy villain so so good. We both loved this show so much. Its witty, sexy and yes rivetting good word promo.

26 Dexter
Taking the plunge on a new show can be quite daunting sometimes you quit too soon The Wire, Six Feet Under and Sopranos and other times you manage to push yourself through. This is what we did with Dexter, it felt wrong but you just had to follow his story, how can a man so crazy be so likeable, why don't we want him caught, why do we forgive every killing he does. Such a clever show only spoilt by a naff finale. Just loved it. 25 Revolution
Now here we go my 2nd favourite show of the 10s than nobody has heard of!! After Lost finished every network was looking for the next one, The 4400, Flash Forward, The Leftovers but they did it, it was Revolution!! Set in a world where electricity suddenly stopped working and the whole world reverted back to a Feudal society. This is had brilliant leads and Giancarlo Esposito as a villain even more charismatic and scary than his character in Breaking Bad. Billy Burke of OC fame, leads a ragtag group through this crazy version of America trying to solve the mystery of why the lights went off. Season 1 is probably my favourite season of TV of the 21st century!!! Yes I loved it that much!! Then season 2 struck, it was still brilliant but as the ax was hanging over their head, they just went bat sh*t crazy, the final episode was hilarious, I still loved that last episode but you so knew they were just taking the p*ss now. You cant watch this show anywhere in the Uk, think its on Hulu in US. The only thing that may annoy is entitled, precious Charlie but she does get kind of awesome. Which just reminded me, I have missed Fear The Walking Dead of the list, dang, it had a brilliant 2 seasons should have maybe had in around 85. I was so sad when they axed it, I was like what am I going to watch now and in its place came The 100.... How awesome is the promo!!! really... awww I really want to watch it again So tempted to buy the Blu Ray but I can just hope Amazon Prime shows it soon as they are great for 00s shows at the moment so this cant be far off being added. My son was 9 when it finished and he caught a bit of it but he was too young, think he would really enjoy it now!

Surprisingly, the only one I've seen from that last lot is Revolution (not even The Big Bang Theory!) We also really liked it, thought it had a great premise and more successful than many of the other post-apocalyptic dystopia shows we'd seen. It could definitely have run for longer. I haven't seen The Flash but we did see (most of) Arrow and a few seasons of Supergirl and I was so annoyed by the crossover episodes they kept doing to resolve major events in the story that it basically put me off that entire stable of shows, sorry I don't like superheroes at the best of times (not just these but even Avengers and basically anything Marvel... IDK, maybe if I'd read the comics I'd feel differently) but if there's one thing that's guaranteed to annoy me in a show - superhero or otherwise - it's crossing over to another show to complete a plotline. I assume Arrow and Supergirl are still to come in which case I will give further thoughts on those when they do appear.

Yeah, we caught it on Amazon Prime a few years ago when it was still on there. It had a kind of almost 'wild West' feel which we really enjoyed. A pity it isn't any more, and that it was canned so early Supergirl... eh. It was okay. As many of these shows do it just started getting more and more contrived. But the first season was pretty good. I did like the casting overall; wouldn't have worked if Kara wasn't so likeable.
