72 Alias
I have been quite unlucky with this show, so never finished it but really liked all I have seen. I missed the start at the time so never watched it. I then tried to catchup with it all on Amazon last year and they took it of when I was in season 3. Made by JJ Abrams who has created many of my favourite shows, most of which are still to come. It is about a student to who recruited by the CIA and uncovers many secrets about her own family and get involved in a mystery which goes right back to the times of Da Vinci. With many sci fi and supernatural elements, I think Assassins Creed took a lot of inspiration from this show. I hope I can finish it on eday although it is a bit dated.
71 Luther
I don't watch or really enjoy many homegrown BBC shows but Luther was in a different class. Luther is a psychological crime drama starring Idris Elba, I'm pretty sure you all know it. I just like a show where the hero exists very much in the grey and constantly has to think about, how far is too far and when does the lawman become the criminial.

But no sci fi yet
70 The Office
Possibly the most influential comedy of the 21st Century and it has been taken and improved by so many shows, including yes The Office US. But even though I would not watch this show again unlike its progeny, we can not ignore how important it is. I was actually a bit late to it having not watched it on its first run. But so many great characters and moments.
69 Pointless
What TV show have I watched more hours of than any other in the 21st century? well you already know the answer its Pointless. If you said that you will score 100 unfortunately. Its just a brilliant filler show, you just came home, you cant watch anything serious with the kids in the room, no time to have a decent game before tea and yes you can check forums at the same time. Also everybody in the house can play along. I can own at music and die at death at flags!!

68 The OC
Talking about being late to a show, my current lockdown binge is The OC. I had a 2 year old in the house at the time, and I was working shifts so The OC was usually on when I got home but we had other shows to watch. We did have TIVO then but you could only record 1 other show from the one you were watching. Also I thought it was all rich people and a bit Baywatch. But I was wrong, it has characters from both sides of the tracks, rich and poor, and they all have such good stories. But its by no means the best teen drama on the 21st century, still have a few contenders to come and one you may never have heard of. But for lockdown I love it, people partying, drinking, socialising, generally having fun along with drama, action and yes a lot of soap. Makes me want to be 18 again, we didn't have the weather but I certainly can relate to the drama, been there big time. Oh and lots of great music in first 3 seasons everyone from The Thrills and Death Cab to The Subways and Tom Vek and usualy band performances! This is such a dated trailer!! 67 Better Call Saul
For most people who loved Breaking Bad, like me Saul would have been one of your favourite characters. I was so happy when it got a spinoff and I did love the show but I am afraid as it has gone one, it has become a very dull version of BB especially the current season. It was great when it was different and yes the backstories of other characters is quite entertaining as well but it is just too slow and doesn't know what to concentrate on. If you are a big fan of BB, you have to watch this but I suspect your loyalty to this show will wane.

Not much cheer in this batch and certainly not these two
66 Chernobyl
Another show that probably doesn't need much introduction. HBO's biggest show of 2019 and the telling of the day just before and the days after the Chernobyl disaster. It probably isn't totally accurate and the English voices of the actors is a bit jarring but the drama and horror is real enough. Was the true story worse than this, maybe we may never know but its bad enough! A must watch.
65 Homeland
When 24 ended we were all looking for the next thing. Homeland was that show. Much more realistic and closer to real life and with am electrifying story about a recovered US Soldier who may have been turned by Al Qaeda. Season 1 is peerless, the performances of Claire Danes and Damian Lewis make this one of the best opening seasons of any show in this list. Season 2 was really good but not quite the same and after that many switched off. Stick with it!! Claire Danes character can be difficult to watch in later seasons but the stories, supporting cast and drama is still worth sticking with through her bipolar episodes, and they aren't all bad, sometimes they are frustrating and silly but often they are terrifying insights into extreme mental illness. But if you are never watched this show please watch Season 1 at least. It defines the 00s politic landscape and also shows an alternate and very possible version of world events.

Interesting start to this. Quite a lot I haven't seen and so can't comment on. But some good choices so far (even if I can't quite believe Black Books didn't make the cut )

Pointless has really passed it's sell by date now.
Used to be we wouldn't miss it but now prefer to watch The Chase.
Was superb at first but now so many contestants learn The Periodic Table and the countries of the world.
As for the banter between Armstrong and Osman it's gotten beyond puerile

I really like Impossible I am hoping its back soon but it doesn't look like they managed to film a new series prelockdown

Interesting start to this. Quite a lot I haven't seen and so can't comment on. But some good choices so far (even if I can't quite believe Black Books didn't make the cut ) My Tv taste has really changed in the last ten years, I have gone from being a Sci fi geek to liking wider stuff but I am more into teen aimed shows now than maybe ever but I do have a very good excuse as 8pm is in the only time our oldest will watch TV with us and we come down and watch a show every night, its been this way for the last 7 years. He used to watch saturday night TV with us well up until about 3 years ago but we are all a bit tired of those shows ourselves now. So his influence and me puting him in front of shows I think he'd like takes up a large proportion of this list. So quite a few shows from the 00s have been pushed out im afraid.

It has to be done, never made it to episode 2 after 3 attempts. I feel I can do it now.

64 Black Mirror
The shows are not getting much more fun. I haven't seen the most recent episodes of this but I have loved so many of these over the last few years/ I think the first story is a very bad start though and actually put my wife off watching any of the others, eventhough I told her their would be so many she would enjoy or love. I was wanting to pick out a favourite which is very hard but I think it is this one, San Junipero. Yes I am a soppy git
63 Doctor Who
/me ducks only #63! I am of course allowing Doctor Who as it is pretty much a new show. If we were just talking about the first 3 doctors in the revamped show, this would be in my top 20 but fatigue and less enthused about the new doctors, I have only watched 1 of the current season. But Tennant & Piper and Dawson & Gillen as well as Ecceleston and the supporting cast and companions of John Barrowman, Arthur Darvill, Jenna Coleman and yes even Katherine Tate, made this essential TV. Also we had some brilliant villains with an amazing new master and mistress as well as newly scary again Cybermen and Daleks and brilliant new villains like the Weeping Angels. So maybe harsh at #63, lets have a spoiler reel. Oh and for me its all about Karen and Matt!!

62 Atypical
After two UK shows lets back two Netflix shows, we will start with Atypical, yes its a teen drama comedy about a boy who struggles with school, family life and relationships due to his autism but the story doesn't end there, his family are possibly more dysfunctional than he is, especially over controlling mother Jennifer Jason Leigh. So although a teen drama, it is very much an adult show as the parents are definitely as big a presence as the teens. Funny, charming, emotional just a great show.
61 The Witcher
Again a show that's maybe to low but I really think this show still needs to hits stride. The casting, atmosphere, style its all there. I really enjoyed watching it but its not quite a classic show yet. I have faith that Netflix will come back with an even stronger Season 2 which will make it deserving of the Game Of Thrones comparisons. Still probably my number one new show of the last 6 months mind you above even The Mandolorian. I forgot it....make it about #87 oops

60 The Marvelous Mrs Maisel
This has sat on our Amazon Prime list for a few years and finally this year we decided to watch it. Mrs Maisel is probably my tv crush of 2020 which maybe explains why I am still watching it. No that's not all, its very very funny. The best period tv show since Mad Men, yes its that good. Oh unless High castle counts as period anyway its brilliant. The golden era of the US or certainly again the way the US likes to think the 50s and 60s. Its just escapism but real as well. But it is probably one to watch with your girl.
59 Ashes To Ashes
Of course it wasn't as good as Life On Mars but it came pretty close. Also I maybe related to it more as I was more brought up on 80s music and 80s cop shows and of course it still has the brilliant Gene Hunt. I hear they want a new season of these shows not sure if they would survive the Twitter world, possibly the last unPC hit BBC show.
Oh and in case you don't know this show is about a female police detective who wakes up in 1981 oh just watch the trailer.

We loved The Witcher! I think it helps that we've played the games (well mostly Witcher 3) as even though the story in the show is different, it helped give some understanding of who the characters are. I thought the interwoven timelines were really clever though I gather they left a few people confused.
And yes, I agree - not really up to comparison with the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones but then very little is.

I really rate Chernobyl one of the best tv shows in recent years.
I am currently re-watching Ashes to Ashes at the moment.

58 Continuum
I love a Sci Fi show that messes with your head and this Canadian Sci Fi show certainly does that, it starts of as a time travel mystery procedural where a cop from the future travels back in time and uses her future tech, her suit, to fight crime then more and more mysterious criminals start appearing in the past. As I said it starts pretty Terminator straightforward but becomes a time travel, alternate future battle between super corporations , where the good guys might actually be the bad guys etc etc
57 Heroes
Oh Heroes, oh Heroes where do we start. We have had a few contenders for brilliant 1st seasons and Heroes is definitely one of the best. One of the last shows that was event television where everyone watched it at the same time. A brilliant twist on X Men which is made much more realistic and with a so many plot lines occurring all over the world. Yes future seasons didn't match the debut but it was still a great show. Seriously even the revival series was not that bad.

56 Glow
Would I have predicted 10 years ago that a show about women's wrestling in the 80s would be one of my favourite shows of the decade, I would not have believed you. You wont believe it yourself but give it a go. Brilliant cast, so many funny moments and brilliant music. Any show that has Scandal - The Warrior as its theme song, has to be something special. Season 4 coming very soon.
55 Smallville
Back before Marvel and DC superheroes took over TV we had Smallville. Basically the teen Superman story without capes. So many things made this show special but number one was Lex Luthor, Michael Rosenbaum is probably my favourite Lex ever. Watching it back now you can see its One Tree Hill with super powers but really doesn't that sound awesome!!
Not all the casting was great and there are too many filler episodes but when it was good it was amazing.
