-- ( -- ) (Think Of Me) Wherever You Are - Ken Dodd -- ( -- ) Full Of Fire - Al Green -- ( -- ) Alright Baby - Stevenson's Rocket -- ( -- ) Times Of Your Life - Paul Anka
Another massive list of songs of which 7 enter the chart and 4 do not. The highest new entry is yet another classic by 10cc. Consider them for Haven Factor, anyone? - well Queen who are #1 and David Bowie who has the highest entry were both on HF but neither got to play Under Pressure nor their current hit. Hot Chocolate have also featured, with Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen and Roxy Music.. But Slade have also so far been overlooked - they get another top 10 hit. (Looking further down, the Bee Gees and Frankie Valli have been in, and Simon & Garfunkel are another act who may turn up at some point.. but you never know someone may even attempt Barry Manilow).

After the flop of "Hug And Squeeze Me" Lynsey de Paul did a comeback on the top of my chart with her Christmas duet.

I won't be charting that, but Dana will probably get a hit in the next few weeks with what I think is her best ever song.

The Diana Ross record was really odd. Even the anaemic Sorry Doesn't Always Make It Right made the top 30 but when Mahohany was released at the end of October it was a spectacular failure even failing to make the Breakers.
When Diana toured the Uk in Spring 1976 I don't think the record was re-released but it was maybe re-promoted. It stalled in the Breakers for a week then suddenly took off going top 5 and selling around 170k Love Hangover charted just 3 weeks after it.

The film "Mahogany", in which Diana Ross was also acting, came out in 1975 but don't know if there was an impact in the UK with a late release around March inspiring the song itself to do well, and if she toured the UK it may have helped her get two top 10 hits in a short space of time, because she wouldn't get another one until the summer of 1980.

I won't be charting that, but Dana will probably get a hit in the next few weeks with what I think is her best ever song. It was the next # 1. As I remember only two times one Christmas song was replaced by another on the top of my chart. Firstly in 1975 and also in 2003. Maiden # 1 for Cheeky Girls "Have A Cheeky Christmas" lost a crown after one week at # 1 and Fast Food Rockers - I Love Christmas was the next chart leader for a whole month.

In my chart only in 1973, "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" replaced by "Merry Christmas Everybody", two of the most classic Christmas songs that had to both get to #1.
In 2009 and 2012 a Christmas-themed song replaced a Chanukah-themed song at #1.

Queen gets a 6th week but now is under threat from Greg Lake for Christmas. I would normally count next week as the Christmas chart but Greg Lake may be #1 the week after, with Queen no threat for that week but Abba will be the obvious other choice and are likely to get there after Christmas.
Dana will most likely also climb into the top 10 for a couple of weeks, and C.W. McCall's classic is more likely to endure into January than the Christmas songs.

Bohemian Rhapsody becomes the 6th song to have 7 weeks at number one, and 4 of them have been in the 1970s. "Question" by the Moody Blues, "American Pie" by Don McLean and "Jarrow Song" by Alan Price have been the others in this decade. In 1965 Bob Dylan had 7 weeks on top with "Like A Rolling Stone". The most surprising of the 7 week chart-toppers Dave King's "You Can't Be True To Two" in 1956, which isn't considered up there as a classic with the others on the list (but is quite a pleasant song, it was more a case of nothing great turning up for a while).
In the UK chart it kept out Greg Lake and also Hot Chocolate before him (and also kept out Laurel & Hardy and later Sailor), before being replaced by Abba. Could those all happen here or will Greg Lake get a week on top next week after all?
Mike Oldfield's jolly song is in the spirit. Not sure about Donna Summer - that one was a bit controversial when it first came out. It has its moments but on balance I'm not sure (and wasn't that keen on it back then which influences a lot).

And with this we complete the charts of 1975 with Greg Lake taking over from Queen. As a Christmas song it's not likely to stay there long so who will take over? Abba?
I will be compiling my chart of the year for 1975 and listening to it over the weekend (and possibly on Friday). I already have my first playlist for 1976.

1975 year was powerful for Christmas songs. It's not only about Dana and Lynsey / Barry duet, but also Linda Bennett recorded "An Old Fashioned Christmas (Daddy's Home)"
I love it, don't why some blogs called it "Worst Christmas Song ever".
