The actual title is "Its 'Orrible Being in Love When You're 8 1/2"

Its horrific sometimes I wish you were trolling.
Possibly the worst song in the charts in 1986 yes worse than 'Lady In Red'

Please can you stop posting in the Retro Lounge, and just stick all your "favourite songs" posts into Personal Charts, where they don't clutter up an otherwise interesting forum.

To be fair, people do post their retro charts in here...

Maybe it would be suited to the 'Nearly Forgotten Hits' thread?
I actually don't hate this song, even though I feel like I'm meant to. There were a few novelty hits which were quite endearing, and I found this to be one of them.

At least it's interesting to know her real age. If she really was 8 and half years old, that why 10 years old Lena Zavoroni and Demi Holborn were named the youngest girls with top 40 hit in UK chart ?

Suprisingly the girl from St.Winifred's School Choir even wasn't mentioned in their post.

Funny the mention of St Winifred's School Choir. Guess which school Claire Usher went to.
And guess who wrote it.
This single was a mashup of two of the worst one-hit wonders ever. The kids were all St Winifred's School Choir kids, and the writers were Brian & Michael. And Claire wasn't 8 and a half. I think she was 11 by the time it came out.
What makes it even worse, is it was a prime example of how talent shows are rigged. The act and song were in the Saturday Superstore Search for a Superstar contest, on kids' Saturday morning telly. So you basically had music industry professionals using their clout to get in the contest and get their work on national television. At the expense of actual kids who had a talent that they wanted to show off.
So, it is one of the most morally repugnant singles ever to chart.
There was a follow-up and an album (the modestly-titled Superclaire). If you want to go even more disturbing, the Stephen that Claire is mooning over in the performance is her brother...
