HAVEN COMBI RETRO-CHART W/B 10th JULY 1988

INXS manage a third week at the top of the Retro-Chart with Never Tear Us Apart. It registers a small growth in points albeit with a reduced margin.





There’s a tie for the runner-up spot this week. Moving up to number two is the gorgeous Debbie Gibson with Foolish Beat, the fourth release from her Out Of The Blue album, which becomes her first Top Five hit.

Transvision Vamp also move up to number two, continuing to climb with I You’re your Love, forcing Fast Car by Tracy Chapman down to number four.

Last week’s highest new entry is up to number five this week for Everything But The Girl with I Don’t Want To Talk About It.

There’s a huge climb of 27 places this week for Michael Jackson as Dirty Diana moves up to number 7 to become his tenth Top 10 hit on the Retro-Chart, and still chasing that elusive fourth number one.

Highest new entry is straight in at number 8 for Kim Wilde with You Came, which becomes her highest debut to date, beating the number 14 entry of last year’s Another Step.

Thought I'd take a look at what we were all listening to back at the start of the 80s Retro-Chart.  Kind of a Retro-Chart Retro Rewind....!

Here's the chart for this week in 1982.  This was just the fourth week of PLAYER 's original Retro-Chart and the first week that the 'Pop Kids' entered the fray (me, coolchristie and rubcale )!

Anyway, here's how the chart looked six years ago.....Bananarama had just deposed Roxy Music to correct the injustice of never having had a UK number one!  Irene Cara was number one on the Official Chart but could only manage a peak of number two here.

Some classic songs there from some amazing albums that I've only recently re-discovered. Seems like a completely different decade to the stuff we're listening to now. Think I prefer the late 80s charts, I'm more familiar with the music, I was just a bit too young for music in 1982.
