radiotoday.co.uk/2020/07/foxy-returns-to-the-radio-with-sunday-chart-show/Foxy returns to the radio with Sunday chart show Neil Fox is joining United DJs to host a Sunday afternoon chart show every week. The former Magic, Capital and Pepsi Chart Show host returns on July 26th from 1pm till 3pm for the Heritage Chart Run Down. Foxy says: “When Tony Prince and Mike Read approached me about hosting the brand new weekly Heritage Chart, it felt like a perfect fit. “I love doing countdowns and I love being on-air. I can’t wait to get back to doing a weekly run down!” The chart will be compiled each week by the stations DJs, overseen by Mike Read and Neil Fox. Neil hasn’t been on the radio since he left Magic Breakfast six years ago, apart from a stint at former London DAB station Thames Radio in 2016. At a Radio Academy event in 2017 he revealed he turned down a job offer from Global in favour of joining Thames Radio. www.uniteddj.com/

"The chart will be compiled each week by the stations DJs"
In other words, made up! The OCC used to compile a Catalogue chart which consisted of tracks which had been released more than two years previously. I'm not sure if they still compile one but it would be virtually the same tracks each week inside the top 20.
Good to see Tony Prince is still around. He used to be a DJ and the Programme Director at Radio Luxembourg in the 70s and 80s. He also used to compile the Radio Luxembourg chart.

Well yeah, will it be a simply older songs chart? In which case it won't change much week on week. Or is it going to be like a heritage artist type thing...so like the latest top 20 or whatever solely from heritage artists (e.g. when Ronan Keating or Cher or someone releases something new they are eligible, but contemporary artists are not)? That may be a bit more interesting but not too sure what the point is.

It sounds like it will focus on new music by heritage artists as they play a lot of new stuff by heritage acts

I do what I think (I Stand to be corrected) a very original Idea myself on my local community station each week.
I call it "The Classic top 10 countdown Guess the year show"
I count down this weeks Irish top 10 from a mystery year, effectively turning a retro chart countdown in to a guess the year show at the same time. I do 2 different years each week, Year 1 first hour from 1960s-1980s, year 2 second hour from 1990s-2010s. I used the Unofficial chart that was published in the Dublin Evening Herald for the years 1959-early 1967, then the official chart from 1967 to the present day. Different I pick up on the songs that don't normally get played on other guess the year shows that cover the music from the whole year each time
I also do 4 batches of clues, featured news piece(On this day in the mystery year) a number 1 round up for this week in the mystery year, I go for 4 other locations in this, the US, UK Australian and World number 1s.

Oddly enough this sounds very similar to Cool FM which I think is a Belfast radio station? Somehow I ended up listening to them a few times as they played a great range of music and I remember on weekday mornings they'd do a similar thing where they would play the top ten from a random year and give out clues etc. As you say it's a great way to give an airing to many forgotten gems.

Are you able to listen to the podcasts on there as you are in the UK, trying to listen to one of those morning shows on a catch up basis, comes up with error, I suspect I'm being blocked as I am in the republic.

Not too sure, I’m rubbish with technology so I just use Radio Player app and listen whilst at work occasionally - in real time mind, not on catch up.

Will be good to hear him back on the air. Whilst I always listened mainly to the Official Chart, Neil made the Network Chart quite exciting in the 90s.

I wonder how that chart is compiled. It can't be sales, or surely the likes of the Pretenders and Erasure would be in there?

It is a show with a modern day twist, the update countdowns done with Hooks (Snippets of music)...
