Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl I never knew about the Jill Sobule song with the same name until recently, and even though that one is much better I still think this is a pretty good pop song. She did get much better though when she moved towards a more mature sound.

Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire I can't deny this is a very good song, and it will be the one they're most remembered for, but I don't think it's anywhere near the best thing they've ever done. I can see why it's so loved though as it just makes you lose yourself for a few minutes - it actually makes me reminisce and feel slightly sad for some strange reason... I really don't know why some songs do that to me but they always seem to!

P!nk - So What I'm not sure I've ever thought of P!nk as a rock star if I'm honest, but she is a bloody amazing singer and performer and a lot of her songs are a rock orientated type of pop so I can let her off the lyrics. Deservedly she is one of the most successful stars to emerge since the turn of the century and I absolutely love her. This is the type of catchy, in your face loud pop songs she does best, and is impossible not to like (well for me anyway!)

Girls Aloud - The Promise This is the type of pop song that reminds me that Girls Aloud could actually be very good when they steered away from covering classic songs. It's just got a killer chorus that hooks you in and refuses to let go - I'll probably have it in my head all day now in fact! I can't remember if it's my favourite Girls Aloud song but it's certainly up there.

Not a too bad bunch really, definitely not when you compare them to current chart toppers. That being said I Kissed A Girl has aged terribly.

The X Factor Finalists - Hero Not content with claiming the Christmas #1 spot every year, Simon Cowell decided to get all of the finalists to record a classic song for the Help for Heroes charity (an idea that would run for at least a couple more years). I am tempted to say this is totally without merit, but it was probably my favourite ever series of the show: with brilliant acts like Alexandra Burke, Diana Vickers, JLS and Ruth Lorenzo featuring. (Unfortunately we also had Eoghan Quigg, but you can't have everything!). It's nowhere near as good as the Mariah Carey version, which is an absolute classic and should have been #1 instead of this - which I would say is just average.

Beyonce - If I Were A Boy I decided a while ago to ignore the sexist lyrics of this song because the tune and vocals here really are Beyonce at her absolute best. I put it down to her singing the words after she had just been hurt by a partner, rather than her always thinking that all men were a**eholes. If I think along those lines then this is probably my favourite Beyonce song, the power at which she sings it really sends shivers down my spine.

Take That - Greatest Day The boys do it again! This is another really strong, mature single from the boy(man?)band and probably a popular choice for couples' wedding song for many years to come! They are probably a rare case of a band who have reformed years later where their new stuff is actually an improvement on their earlier sound - although I'd say 'Back For Good' and 'Never Forget' are probably exceptions.

Leona Lewis - Run This was released by popular demand after Leona's moving Radio One Live Lounge performance, and it's hard to deny that she gives the performance of her life on it, even if I do still prefer the Snow Patrol original. In either form it's one of those songs that just makes me want to cry though.

My sister was a fan of Finnish figure skater Kiira Korpi, this her performance always come into my mind when I hear "If I Were A Boy".

Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah I'm not afraid to say, and I can cope with the backlash, but this is by far my favourite version of the Leonard Cohen classic - it's also the only X-Factor's winner's single that I would describe as amazing. It just gives me absolute goosebumps in a way that no other version of the song does... Another controversial opinion coming up: I prefer Rufus Wainwright's version to Jeff Buckley's, who I think did do a very good version but his voice just depresses the hell out of me.

Lady Gaga - Just Dance Wow - What a way to start 2009! A club/dance anthem from the off and the introduction to one of the greatest female artists of the next decade. This still sounds just as fantastic nearly twelve years later, and makes you want to do what it says on the cover every time you hear it!

Lily Allen - The Fear This was the lead single from the London singer-songwriter's second album, and is a more electro sounding song than the ones from her first. I probably like it more now in retrospect than I did at the time if I'm honest, as I didn't really think it was punchy enough back then and didn't have much of a hook. I can appreciate now that it is up there with her best songs though.

Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You Oh yes, Kelly. It seems like she's popping up everywhere on here lately. I was a big fan of her 'Breakaway' album at the time though, and I can remember being very disappointed with the follow-up album which came before this - so I had sort of stopped being interested in her by the time of this.... I do think it's a very catchy pop song though, and has aged pretty well, even if I can't get past the fact that it's nowhere near as good as INXS's 'Mystify', which landed me in the bottom 3 that round! Ignoring that fact though, it's a pleasant listen.

Flo Rida Featuring Ke$ha - Right Round This is the tune that introduced us to both Flo Rida and Ke$ha, both of who went on to produce much better singles I have to say. The chorus is a re-write of the Dead or Alive classic 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record), but is unfortunately nowhere as good, and the rapping parts don't really make up for it. The only thing I like is that it's quite dancey, and would be easy to get into when inside a club after a few shots, but other than that it's pretty average really.

Vanessa Jenkins & Bryn West Featuring Sir Tom Jones & Robin Gibb - (Barry) Islands In The Stream In case you didn't know, this is Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon as their characters from popular comedy series 'Gavin and Stacey', who actually performed the Dolly Parton/Kenny Rogers cover in the series. As Comic Relief singles go it's fairly listenable (although not terribly funny if you're not watching them perform), but it probably helps that it's a Bee Gees classic composition that is pretty hard to mess up anyway.

Lady Gaga - Poker Face This was actually out for quite a few weeks before it hit the #1 spot but it's hard to believe that it wasn't always destined to do so. If 'Just Dance' got you up on the dance floor, then this one made you stay up and give it everything you had! It's just awesome, and better than 'Just Dance', if that was concievable at the time. It hasn't lost any of its appeal since either, and is still one of her absolute best!
