greendemon - that is exactly the one I was waiting. Not only the best Crowded House song for me, but one of my most listened to songs ever. Love it so much.

Based on indie direction of this thread I predict Doves or Divine Comedy for letter D.
I didn't hear any Crowed House songs, but like Sixpence None The Richer cover version of Don't Dream It's Over.

One of those I considered, the other I did not. None of my 4 favourites mentioned yet, which means at least one has missed out completely... Interested to know what these are!

Excellent list, and excellent selection of a few that missed out, here are a few more to throw into the mix from each of their first albums up to Afterglow.
Mean to me, World where you live, Love you til the day I die Sister madly It’s only natural, Four seasons in one day Fingers of love, Together alone Not the girl you think you are My telly’s gone bung

Locked Out and Fall At Your Feet would make up my top three. But they were such a consistently good band - I’m not sure I could whittle them down to a top 10. There are just too many great tracks to choose from.
As for D. No idea what Big G has in store here. Would love to see someone like Darling Buds, Divine Comedy or Dido.

Oh I thought for sure it'd be Glitter And Trauma or Strung To Your Ribcage that showed up! I do love Wave though, although I'd struggle to think of an Infinity Land song I don't love! I'm going to have to have a good think and come up with my own top 10 for Biffy, although I think I'll be very biased towards 2 or 3 albums. Finally got around to posting this, nearly three weeks later... 01 - Strung To Your Ribcage 02 - God & Satan 03 - Glitter And Trauma 04 - Folding Stars 05 - The Kids From Kibble And The Fist Of Light 06 - Only One Word Comes To Mind 07 - Machines 08 - Shock Shock 09 - The Atrocity 10 - Get Fu*ked Stud I wasn't expecting so many album tracks to make it in - and as expected, only 3 albums showed up. Didn't expect Puzzle to have more than Only Revolutions, since I prefer the latter. But the songs on Puzzle I do like, I really love. I'm afraid I know nowhere near enough about Crowded House to offer much of an opinion there though! But I do like Fall At Your Feet a lot.

Oh wow, you really are an Infinity Land fan! It came out 16 years ago this weekend apparently I do really like several of those; 'Only One Word...' and 'Folding Stars' of course but also 'Kids from Kibble', 'Machines' and 'Get F*cked Stud' which is one of my favourite Puzzle album tracks.

D was originally scheduled to start early next week but I'll bring it forward to Friday to take advantage of the weekend. Pretty sure my D choice is going to be... underwhelming

it won't be Duran Duran then? Nah, I know they're well-liked here but I've never been a fan. I'll take 'Ordinary World' and leave the rest.

Hmm.
Is it a curveball, like Daft Punk? Or someone alternative that posters don't mention much, like Death Cab For Cutie or Dashboard Confessional?

Ok my guess is Depeche Mode
Also worthwhile are The Doors and David Bowie
Also I'd maybe go for Deacon Blue

Daft Punk, Death Cab and Depeche Mode are all good guesses!
David Bowie I didn't really consider; I like some of his songs but I'm not a massive fan of his whole catalogue.

Time to reveal the D-listers...
I've already ruled out Duran Duran, but I did consider another Haven favourite 80s band starting with D - Depeche Mode. I don't actually own any of their music myself, but then I don't have to - my partner is a huge fan and has pretty much all their albums. They didn't make the cut because I still am not that familiar with them beyond Speak and Spell and Violator and I don't think I'll ever love them as much as my partner does, but I wouldn't have had any trouble at all picking a top 10 for them. (Given the size of their back catalogue, perhaps that's the problem!)
Predictable favourite is predictable, but it has to be this one:

Doves were mentioned a couple of times in the thread by you lovely people. I got into them years ago when The Last Broadcast came out - round about the same time I discovered a certain other indie band from the Greater Manchester area. I loved that album so much but never bought another one by them, though I have liked many of their singles (including and especially the recent ones - it's great to have them back after so long ) Bit of a random pick for favourite maybe, but this was always my favourite album track from The Last Broadcast - so haunting.

Nobody mentioned The Decemberists but the indie-folk outfit from Oregon were actually ahead of the previous two. I'm not sure how well-liked they are on here but I absolutely love them. I didn't even know they existed until I heard 'O Valencia!' back in 2006 or 2007 and it wasn't long after that before I picked up The Crane Wife, which is a gorgeous album that draws on everything from Japanese folklore to the American Civil War. 'Summersong' did fairly well in the recent Haven Summer Songs contest so perhaps they are better-liked here than I thought?
My favourite of theirs is actually 'Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect' from Castaways and Cutouts. It's a really beautiful song which I love as much for the lyrics as for the melody.
