Time to kick things off...
10. Walking Barefoot (Free All Angels, 2001)
First up is the opening track from the album that got me into them, 'Free All Angels'. 14-year-old me pretty much fell in love with it as soon as I heard it and knew straight away that I was onto a winner with the record. It quickly became my favourite song by them and stayed that way until I delved into their older material. I have slightly gone off it in the intervening years - maybe 'outgrown' is a better word - as it is kind of corny, but I can see why it appealed to baby greendemon, and there is still something about its carefree, youthful exuberance that I still really love.
(For the chart nerds: technically this is an album track, although it was released as a single in Australia.)

9. Goldfinger (1977, 1996)Alas, a couple of decades too late to be a Bond theme... I actually can't remember much about how I discovered this one, but I suspect it was whenever a friend from school lent me his copy of '1977'. Although I was really into 'Free All Angels', I think as an album, this one has aged much better and is probably my favourite album of theirs that I own now. As Hupin mentioned earlier, they don't have a lot of slower songs. This is definitely one of their best in that category: I love the contrast between the first line of the verses and the moment when the drums kick in. It is also one of their most 'Britpop' songs; they weren't fond of the label as they're Northern Irish, but listening to 'Goldfinger' you can appreciate where it came from. 'Goldfinger' was released as a single, and having reached #5 it's actually their biggest hit in the UK! I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say that there will be more from this excellent album higher up

8. Jack Names The Planets (Trailer, 1994)
No surprise that their debut single had to feature somewhere in this top 10 - I originally thought I'd put it higher, but they just have too many bangers! I don't own 'Trailer' so this one I will have first discovered through their first 'best of', 'Intergalactic Sonic 7"s'. I barely have a clue what this song is about - Wikipedia tells me the title and some of the lyrics come from The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub - but I haven't read that. What I do know is that it's a little slice of punky brilliance that I still enjoy almost 2 decades after I discovered it.
7 and 6 to follow tomorrow!

And me - I love Candy! The Walker Brothers sample makes it extra dramatic.

I have to say I hated 'Candy' when I first heard it! It has grown on me since then, but you'll have to see if it grew enough to make the top 7...

I know who my money's on for A, and he/she/they would probably be 5th on my list. My money was on Arcade Fire.

I know I'll be flying in the face of popular consent here, but my absolute favourite Ash album is...
Islands, from 2018. (And then, 1977.)
In fact, I've just stuck it on the CD player as a result of this thread. I'll be back to this thread in an hour.

Less frantic than some of their great early singles, and more varied than most of their LPs too. If there is some 2018 Ash in the Repechage Round of Haven Time Machine 2010s then it is probably my entry.
