Big Brovaz - Favourite Things Who would have thought the film 'The Sound Of Music' could provide the chorus for an early noughties hip-hop track, but it works so well with the changed lyrics that I'm surprised it hadn't been done before. It might seem a bit cheesy in retrospect but I do think it was quite inspired and it's certainly a very listenable track. I wonder why 50 Cent or Mis-Teeq didn't take the cue and do a funked up version of 'Do-Re-Me'...

Kym Marsh album is the one from my all-time favourites.

Girls Aloud - No Good Advice The girl group's second single was no drab affair and certainly let us know that they were no one-hit wonders, with this punchy, guitar based track that was impossible not to like. Yeah, it's still just a really good song that really sounded like none of the other girl groups of the time. Definitely one of their best.

"No Good Advice" finished on 37th place in my all-time top 100 girl groups songs countdown. Also it was my entry for song-off round in last Haven Factor.

I begin to wonder, Scandalous and American life - great songs, were #1 on my charts.

Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body I never realised JT had had three #2 singles from his first solo album, but he was very unlucky not to make the top with any of them - especially this one, which is a bit of an anthem. The chorus is very upbeat and discofied and has that feel of something from Michael Jackson's 'Off The Wall' album. I actually think this was one of the best dance singles of the early noughties!

S Club - Say Goodbye/Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You With only six members left the group dropped the 7 from their name for their last single, which was this double A-side that I have no memory of whatsoever. 'Say Goodbye' is a ballad that is pretty boring and just sounds like it was written in minutes - sometimes goodbye is a word that is better left unsaid really! 'Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You' is a more upbeat pop track, but not really any better to be honest. I can see why I forgot both of these songs because they are not reaching out and grabbing me by the throat.

Fast Food Rockers - Fast Food Song The only downside to threads like this is that the people I live with think I am listening to songs like this through choice! Although to be honest it has more going for it than those S Club songs a minute ago. I don't know what to say really, it is what it is - just a novelty song that once heard it's guaranteed to not leave your brain for days... I can say though that I do still really like their Christmas single of that year, which is simply called 'I Love Christmas'.

Madonna - Hollywood Oh now this is just classic Madge, and a definite highlight from the 'American Life' album. Everything is just perfect about this track - the song, the beats, the production... I really miss the days when she could have a #2 hit.

Benny Benassi Presents The Biz - Satisfaction Oh I love this one too - this is a real re-discovery! I used to play this all the time when I was getting ready to go out, it just grabs hold of you from the very first bars and refuses to lose its grip until the bitter end - although the radio edit is pretty short so maybe I should have gone for a longer version!

Lumidee - Never Leave You (Uh Oooh Uh Oooh) I remember the CD cover more than I do the song if I'm honest. On listening though it is coming back to me, especially the "Uh oooh" bits which are what make the song really. No, actually I do really like it - it's better than I remember it being. It seems like she was a bit of a one-hit wonder though.

Ultrabeat - Pretty Green Eyes Oh now here's one I remember well, I love this! I never realised it was a cover of a dance hit from 1997 though, until I just looked on good old reliable Wikipedia (how did we ever cope before that!). I haven't listened to the original but I do still love this version - it's trancey, and there is a good song in there too so what more could you want!

Lemar - Dance (With U) Without checking my facts (although that has bitten me in the bum before!) I'm saying that Lemar was the most successful of the Fame Academy contestants, without even winning the show. This isn't a bad song, it's pretty laid back R&B/soul of the sort that you could switch on while relaxing and not be inclined to skip. It's not a long lost classic or anything, but I am enjoying revisiting it again.

Dido - White Flag Dido's first two albums were full of well-written, well-sung songs with gorgeous melodies. I sort of lost interest in her after that, but this is just glorious and has lost none of its appeal. Sometimes all you need is a great voice and a great song, and we have that in spades here. Gives me goosebumps.

Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex Fresh from leaving her S Club days behind her, and Rachel Stevens was back with a sexy new image and a debut single that as catchy as the most catchy thing (I can't think of a good analogy I'm afraid). Britney had a bit of competition here because this genuinely is a really great pop song.

The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love I think there were 2 groups of people in late 2003 - the ones who thought the Darkness were the latest best thing ever for bringing glam rock back to the mainstream, and the ones who thought they were a bit naff. I definitely thought they were brilliant, and the debut album was a great showcase for what they were capable of. Sadly they never reached those heights with subsequent albums, but this remains a gold nugget that had more energy and was different to anything else in the charts at the time. I love it.

Beyoncé Featuring Sean Paul - Baby Boy Sorry if I'm going too fast with these, I just get carried away!... This one is good enough really, although I do prefer the Sean Paul bits. Beyoncé had already proved she was capable of so much better but one has got a certain charm to it - she's done much better, but she's done much worse too.

Kevin Lyttle - Turn Me On Another one hit wonder now, and this reggae-fied dance track was played to death back in the day I remember. I can see why though, because it has a certain charm to it - plus the fact that it is incredibly catchy. It's a shame he disappeared into obscurity after this, because it is a really great track.

Blue - Guilty This one is ringing no bells with me whatsoever I'm afraid, and on listening I'm still feeling that Bananarama can't be beaten in the word 'Guilty' in a pop song contest! This is just a bit of a dreary ballad I'm afraid - although the chorus does start getting a bit catchier towards the end. Not enough to make me want to play it again though.

"White Flag" was # 1 in my chart, like the most Dido singles from her first two albums.
Fast Food Rockers "I Love Christmas" got 6th place in my all-time favourite Christmas songs list in 2019. Will we see them so high in this year ?
