Just learned that James Broad, the lead singer and songwriter for Silver Sun, passed away during the week before last Though they had fleeting chart success in the late 90s, Silver Sun continued to make some great power pop well into the 2000s

I always felt Silver Sun were unlucky. By the time they arrived on the scene, the music press and the public as a whole was bored with British rock-pop bands, so they didn't get the credit they deserved for producing some excellent music. Many inferior bands who came before them, did better commercially.
RIP.

Straw got a bit less and Astrid and Spearmint no success at all because "britpop was over". Plus, any band on the Fierce Panda label didn't get playlisted on radio, not even Coldplay until they moved to a bigger label.
